Smaller and lighter
iPad won't fit in your pocket
Cost less
Can't get 64gb iPhone
Have a mobile phone provided by your employer (don't want to carry two phones).

Am I the only one that thinks it's a little odd to talk about giving a 7 year old a $300 piece of electronics? Whatever happened to kids having to EARN an allowance by doing stuff around the house, then USING THAT ALLOWANCE to buy things that they wanted? No wonder this country has a credit problem...

Really? You must be blind and uniformed. Woot has sold a very infamous one. The second one listed via google shoping (search android tablet) is a 1.6 based one from texas technology. I would say texas technology is a no name brand. I wasn't talking about the android name and sales. The discussion was that you could get a tablet at this price point, and you can, it just isn't going to be much of a tablet.

Sadly, my wife bought the previous gen 32GiB iPod last week, or I'd point her to this (assuming she wanted to pay 50 dollars more for a camera).

As for the sync'ing, there's also a program called Double-twist that will sync your iTunes library and playlists.

I find it sad when I go out to eat, and see kids at the restaurant playing with their ipads. Sure, it keeps them quiet and occupied, but doesn't teach them anything about manners, good behavior, etiquette, etc. I mean, I had to learn the hard way how to behave when out and about. Now you give a kid a $300 gadget, and expect them to "behave". If I had wanted anything like that, I'd have had to save for months to afford it, and even then my parents probably would have prevented me from purchasing it.

uhh....no offense but, you obviously need to check your settings in itunes, if it's trying to re-encode your MP3's to AAC or something else you're very much doing it wrong, I've got a massive music collection of music on my computer that itunes doesn't mess with at all.

if you're talking about the way it changes the files when you load them to the ipod itself, that's an anti-piracy measure, so that you can't just hook your 160gb portable harddrive ipod up to someone else's computer, copy their collection, then move it to yours. Don't hate on them for trying to make sure you actually obey the law and they don't get blamed for helping you break it.
