Bought a better model (slightly better CPU, 2G more memory) NEW at staples a couple weeks back - was $100 more, but came with a beautiful monitor to make up that price point difference. OK, so it's missing a wireless card, but I don't know anyone who totes their desktop around like a laptop - do you?

Point it, as "great" as this price is, guys, I'd skip it and look for something new with a 1 year service guarantee to go with it.

I'm not sure you can really compare a $300 machine to a $750 machine. That's like going in a Kia forum and asking the drivers why they aren't behind the wheel of a Porsche.

Is it dumb to not get a square trade warranty on this? It's $70 bucks for one year after the 90day manufacturer warranty expires, which is 23% of the total cost for the system. If the system doesn't fail within the first 90 days, is it very likely that it will? I don't care about hdd or other peripherals, it would just suck it the mobo went out...

Actually, outside of work, nobody I know uses a wired Internet connection for their desktop. Most homes aren't wired for it and people don't want to run wires. And since most people rely on cable for high speed Internet they would need a cable outlet near the computer to use a wired connection without running wires.

This would do the trick, but you could always just get an Apple TV for $99, or get a blu-ray with wifi, they all have those Apps and more.

I bought the 6754 the week it was released for under $500. It has been a great system, incredibly stable, and hasn't been a lick o'trouble. The only thing that disappoints me is the lack of an external wireless antenna. To improve the signal in my office I had to actually remove the antenna from the front bezel and run the wire out the back of the unit. I've been trying to find the external antenna connector ever since (earlier models had it, and there's a blank on the back for installing it).

Anyone know if the motherboard is good? I don't see any mention of that. Seems like a lot of people are giving this PC positive reviews, which leads me to think the MoBo isn't bottle-necking the system at all... but just checking.

(p.s. I would be using this for gaming after a few upgrades)

Wow, somebody had an extra serving of Judgmental-O's this morning.
In the time it took you to complain about his post, you could have just answered it. Like this, see?

This thing comes with Windows 7 64 bit.

A 250W PSU? No gaming on this box. It would be like driving an 18-wheeler with a 4 cylinder engine. Upgrade the PSU and graphics card and you've easily doubled (or even tripled) the price. But for non-gamers, this is a nice package with a nicer price.

Good price for a low end machine. If 64 bit, would def add some RAM to it, and consider upgrading the video card if planning to game/edit with it. This would be a good media pc, but you might wanna look up the video card and replace with a beefier one.

I need a computer to replace a nearly 5 year old Dell dimension. My wife uses it for web and email. I also use it to store photos and do some work on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Would this HP unit be ok for working with Lightroom or would I need to buy a GPU?

That would last a while and you don't really need to get a top-end brand PSU like Antec honestly. You definitely could cut it under $200 for the upgrade and I think that makes a pretty nice gaming system for $500.

Hey Fellow Wooters,

I've never had a desktop and I've been looking for one that is fast and can handle minor gaming

I have a few quick questions hopefully you guys can help me out.

1. Would I be able to smoothly run some fairly simple games (The C&C games, manily RTS games)

2. Could I open up the shell and update components if I want (not sure about towers that come complete)

3. I notice it dosen't list an hdmi output, is this standard?

Thanks for your help

Not entirely correct, even on a refurb unit you can still upgrade the warranty. At my business we buy a lot of HP refurb products (they tend to be in better shape than the new ones ironically enough) and they let us extend the warranties to 3 years next business day onsite. Just be prepared to pay anywhere from $69-200 on average

One warning: HP is a PITA to deal with if something is wrong. I am trying to get them to update my warranty for the 8/10 Woot of nearly identical system. They won't seem to fix the warranty record even though I have called and emailed twice.

1) Yes, but only basic ones. The built in graphics are only so-so. You'll want to add a $100 add-on video card for any real 3d gaming.

2) Yes, of course. Parts are mostly standard. If you update video card you may want to upgrade power supply also.

3) No HDMI. You'll need a better video card for that. There is a DVI output, and you may be able to get a DVI-HDMI adapter.

Mine came with HP crapware (roxio video player, etc.) plus Office 2010 Trial, and of course Windows 7 x64. It does not come with restore discs you have to make those yourself using a built in utility.

HEY! That's my computer! Only cheaper...maybe I should get another?

PLUSSES:
It's not fancy, but it is fast.
It doesn't lock up when I'm flipping back and forth through multiple windows and programs.
CHEAP!
Reliable.
Workhorse.

MINUSES:
The first thing I did was tear the stupid door off the DVDRW bay...a stupid design idea, so rather than waiting for it to break I just popped it off.
It's bulky...not sleek, not stylish, real old school "look at me, I'm a computer!"
Yeah, I don't think this is a gaming computer, but since that doesn't matter to me it's fine.

Maybe I should get another one? Tempting.

This PC does not have and HDMI output. To use as a media center PC you would have to use DVI to HDMI cord for video and a separate mini-phone jack to RCA cord for audio. In short, its possible, but a bit kludgey.

i bought a similar refurb HP computer from woot for about the same price. the only concerns with that machine were an integrated video card which i upgraded and a questionably complementary power supply which i didnt upgrade. its running awesome and its my favorite woot purchase. glad to see they've upped the video card

i highly recommend this deal for household usage. decent gaming ability, and tons of memory
