The LHC; maybe I'll destroy the world, maybe I'll save it, or maybe I'll just be a hugely expensive waste of time and money.

If you're restricting this to MUSICAL instruments, maybe a theremin or a tack piano.

When rich or powerful people propose a change, it is designed to make them richer or more powerful.

French Horn. It's complicated to tune, difficult to use, has one to many spit valves. Also, it's not really french, it's just called that.

Like Brian Eno in ROXY-MUSIC... just a mad scientist of different sounds and effects.

My grandfather cobbled together a piano and mini-chime keyboard. It's in desperate need of repair, there are some peices of it that have not worked since before I can remember, but I like to think that I'm in some way similar to that strange object that haunted our basement.

Well, I'm an opera singer, but if I had to be personified by any instrument, I think that it would be a viola.

Probably the bass for me. I'm there, sort of in the background, doing my thing like I always do and without much fanfare, and everyone completely ignores me until I'm suddenly not there--then everyone wonders where I am.

serengehde wrote:I suppose it counts as "something whimsical," but I had to give the oboe its own mention. It's petite and quirky, and not many people like it, but it has its own beauty. Also takes forever to perfect, whether it's crafting the reed that will last you two days before it breaks, or mastering the ability to play it over a lifetime. Do these things describe me? Maybe just the first three.

Wow, legit. A fellow oboe player. I remember when I started out, my lips would be so sore that I couldn't use a straw (in fact, I no longer use straws because of oboe practice). I have always loved the sound of an oboe, which is very easy to distinguish from the other instruments. Plus you don't have to waste time tuning it. Every once in a while, I'll break out the old Loree and play for a bit when I am feeling nostalgic. Soak a broken reed long enough and you can get out a few quality minutes.
