While this is a political subject, the post did not approach this from a political slant except to say that the writer was not a member of the tea party.
There are definitely folk in the middle who don't care about either side, but there is undeniably polarization caused by a party that is so very and uncompromisingly conservative becoming powerful enough to have influence. The response to something that is "extreme" (and that doesn't inherently mean violent) is that people either are with it or against it. That is, by definition, a polarization of opinion. There are always going to be people who are sort of "meh" about it, but I think most people who watch the news and know about the Tea Party have an either very positive or very negative view on the group.
On the bright side, whoever made the game clearly didn't care enough about their political beliefs to make it a GOOD game. But I think what we, as a country, need is the classic "everyone chill out and pretend for a moment you're a reasonable adult" moment.

I'm a progressive. What some people call a "liberal". My Opinion: This game appears to be in incredibly poor taste. And stupid as well.

It's one thing if this were done by a political figure, or his or her campaign, or some other person of note...but this doesn't seem to fit any of that criteria. I question whether every blog post or bad videogame by random guy on a forum somewhere needs to be parsed out by all of the internet and condemned by half the country.

I understand the need to pretend that all sides of an issue have equal merit, to think every cause has their crazies, and the always astute "both sides do it!" - but when will someone stop to think "Is it really worth broadcasting something that might have otherwise been viewed by a grand total of 10 people just to say the same thing that's been said 1000 times already?"

Taking every opportunity to spout "both sides do it" not only excuses those more serious offenses by people who might actually have a negative impact on society, it solves absolutely nothing.

Actually...No, "WootBot", you're wrong. If there were a game with liberal zombie "opponents", then no one would care—BECAUSE IT'S ZOMBIES. You can't take zombies seriously. Maybe, MAYBE you might get the Secret Service upset if the game featured killing a sitting President...but probably not. BECAUSE IT'S ZOMBIES.

As for me, speaking personally, the game makes me uncomfortable. As much as I despise Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck, I would never want to kill them, even in zombie effigy. I know the NRA would call me a (coward, but imagine a worse word than that) for not wanting to kill people, but I stand by it.

Redneck birther zombie is perfectly ok. Imagine the outcry if it was a PWNIES OMGOMGOMGPONIESOMG OMGOMGOMGPONIESOMG good guy zombie. I'm a little tired of the double standard.

My problem with American politics is the blame game. There always has to be an opponent, there always has to be a bad guy, there always has to be someone to blame. Nevermind that everything that happens is a massive amalgamation of a nearly infinite number of decisions and events. That's too complicated and unsatisfying--that's all theoretical and junk! Blame the media, blame the people in office, blame the banks. Start blaming yourself for your government.

You are right, if this game did a 180 in a partisan way, there would be Mexican zombies with sombreros and black welfare-recipient zombies with babies... and there would be a huge outcry from the media as to how depraved people must be to play a game like that. It'd be no different than the current game though; generic pissed-off-old-guy zombies and white trash zombies deserve life, liberty and the pursuit of BRAINS as much as the next zombie.

NO one is complaining about This Game. Maybe because it was pre-election.

There is hate everywhere. all you need to do is look.

I can't even play this game.

It's easier to attack and tear down than it is to construct something. Anonymity facilitates destructive nonsense like the tea party zombie game. Time for all of us to stop our own drive-by postings and start posting our positions and the reasons behind our positions.

bsmith1 wrote:If I ever become a zombie, I wouldn't find it offensive for someone to want to shoot me. No hard feelings in that. This game is about extending a hand across the aisle...to grab a shotgun and protect your fellow Americans from the zombie hoard regardless of their political affiliation! If they weren't zombies, then yeah it would probably be a bit offensive.

I would like to know the backstory to this game... why did only the conservatives get infected?

If this game is about singing kumbaya with opposing party members, why aren't there any zombified Liberals/Democrats present?

Can't tell if trolling...or just really bad at justifying sickeningly obvious political agenda...

stockli wrote:... Curious lack of coverage of this in the national press, though.

It is curious because I've not seen the Right/far Right media outlets any slower to moral indignation than those nearer the middle. They do complain and quickly, but they get to play the "if those were liberals..." hypocrisy card. Probably justified and well played, but it really is the same thing. It says that our morality is superior, so the Others must be evil.

So how long has this game been out? I'd guess Fox/Faux news will cover it by Monday at the latest.

As to the original post complaint that the gameplay su*ks, hey it's the internets, more dull flash games than good ones. Have you seen the one with a snail and some crap bags, talk about OMGOMGOMGPONIESOMG PONIES!.

I agree... don't come to WOOT for political BS, just for deals. I have made many purchases in the past, but am considering never buying again. What's wrong with you people at WOOT, can't you just run a business and leave the politics out? You're confused if you think mixing business with your political views is an intelligent choice.

One other thing I do feel like pointing out though is that "zomg Americaland politics are so much more angry now" is a canard only taken seriously by people for whom recorded history started in the 80s. People used to fight duels with real guns over this stuff, not to mention various radical and anarchist groups who've bombed and assassinated their way to some headlines. And that's all kids' stuff compared to Roman politics, those guys were hardcore.

Speaking of which, we should really bring duelling back. Because it's awesome.

I always appreciate reading a balanced article, and it's nice to see a democrat (or someone opposed to the tea party) who doesn't mind being honest about what people on their own side are doing.

We need more people like you, on BOTH sides.

This has got to be one of the most pathetic excuses for a video game that I've ever seen or heard of.

And I certainly do NOT like the tea party.

However, the mere existence of a game such as this has only a two-word reply:

Gabrielle Giffords

It only takes one unstable poooony that has no clue where reality ends and reality TV begins to take gun in hand and start firing away. And to you that may assume no left-leaning wingnuts exist, here's three more words for you: "Ted-The-Unibomber" (I'd have used two words, but I can pronounce...let alone spell...his last name).

What should happen pretty soon is that threats (and this game can be considered a veiled threat) against government officials should be considered as a threat against the President and should be met with the full fury and force of the Secret Service. It's not going to stop fools from shooting politicos (Pres. Kennedy, Pres. Regan), but at least we can not put ideas into their heads.
