My EASE just got here too, and I also had the map expired message. I called TT Support, and - after a bit of initial confusion (the rep thought I was calling about Lifetime Updates), and explaining that I was calling about the one-time free map update on a just received refurbished unit purchased from WOOT - I'm downloading the map now.
It will make things easier with the TT Support tech if you've already installed and updated the TomTom Home software (initial install is on the device; then disconnect and reconnect the device so TT Home can "see" it; the TT Home software will then update ...and somewhere in there, you'll find out whether your "free one-time map update" has expired or not); AND you should create your TomTom online account before calling too (easy-peasy).
Then call 866-486-6866, wend your way through the menus to customer service, and explain the problem. It took about 10 minutes total time for the techie to get updated on "how to handle the request", and to issue my account a courtesy update, and then talk me through how to do the update (I was already logged in to my account, and TT Home was running, and my EASE was already connected).
As I write this, there's still about an hour of download left (it's a HUGE download, approx 1.5GB, and I only have DSL).
My initial impression of the EASE (I played around a bit before calling TT Support about the map), is quite favorable (and given the price, ecstatic). It appears to have a couple of free and useful features that my [my more expensive, and more complex, but older] Garmin doesn't.
...and I'm already going to pay the $19.95 for the Gas-Buddy type map upgrade TT offers for the EASE btw (Gas-Buddy is a hugely handy iPhone app btw).
Kind of wish I'd purchased two, actually (too lazy to move 'em from Jeep-to-Jeep LOL).
