Dumb question... (hey, at least I got past the reg. screen!)...
Here goes... when it was charging it would say "10% charged" and what not... I left it be for a few hours (2.5?) and now it says "Charged" - am i good to go?

Thinking about buying this? Don't waste your time. The machine is slow, entourage went under so there is no longer support for the machine, and you cannot update the system to Android 2.2 (it runs 1.6) without loosing functionality in other parts of the machine. If you're a techy at all, you'll hate it. There is no Android market and the Kindle app, for instance, will not run on it. Yo also cannot read kindle books on it without searching forums for a conversion program for them. In my initial set up, it was impossible to register on the Adobe network for some reason (it gives an error code 80) and I finally had to search the forums to find out how to get past this screen. The video's are very misleading. I'll update to ermine and I'll either have a brick, but likely just a cool toy for the kids. Not impressed!

I am using amazon market and downloaded kindle app with no problem. I then ordered a free book from the amazon store and started reading it on my PE.

The bypass of the registration screen is easy enough with the counter-clockwise 4 corner touch see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjbZP8ckmKI

I am updated and have lost no functionality that I know of.

I have added Youtube app, Kindle app, Opera mini, Taskkiller, Amazon app store app, FREEdi Youtube downloader, and moved pictures from my phone to the device so far. I have had no problem using the e-reader(except Overdrive will not download)and journal.

mobileread forums have been helpful along with many helpful people right here.

dundey wrote:It's a nice product, I use it all the time on short trips. The e-reader is as good as any out there and you can use google or amazon to download books.

The web browser is just OK since it has Android 1.6.
There is an upgrade to Ermine (Froyo 2.2) possible through 3rd party sites. Since I upgraded, the tablet works great and is as good as most of the less expensive ones out there (its NOT an Ipad) for email / simple web browsing.
Boots up quick and is easy to use.
I like mine and don't think you can do much better for the price.

Not necessarily. If you have been reading through this discussion you know that you can get past the registration hang(code 80). You can also upgrade it to version 2.2. The marks are another story. You can contact Woot! at service@woot.com to find out your options. One person already posted that woot was sending a replacement for the one he received.

Edit: You should definitely read the very next post.

As this was your first post, is there something the group here can help you with. If you have a technical problem with your PE, maybe someone here can help you resolve it.

If your mind is made up, you can start by sending an email to service@woot.com. Be sure to include your user name and order number.

1. after the upgrade, wifi connection is spotty sometimes, not often enough to be its downfall, but annoying.
2. No android market unless you have android phone or emulator. But you have Amazon and others.

To address your concerns - yes you can update to 2.2.

Searching on forums to find software? Well firstly people have repeated the links to the upgrades over and over in this forum. Go back a few pages and read. As for conversion software:
http://calibre-ebook.com/ - not that hard.

You aren't registering on the Adobe Network, which is why your log in didn't work. The registration was for entourage and their site and servers are down, which is additionally why it did not work.

I have Amazon Kindle, Amazon Appstore, YouTube Pandora, Drop Box, Yahoo Messenger and Skype running so far. I have been unsuccessful in gettting Android Market (probably not possible) or Netflix (still working on it) to run.

So all in all, I think my PE is a great little machine. Is it perfect? no, but it does what I really need it to do, and it was definitely worth the money.

Prior posting document the "4 corner method". This does work... Took me a while because I was hitting the wrong areas at the bottom of the screen. See this forum posting for a picture with the regions you must hit.

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=76241&d=1315430444

Quick summary of the posting:
1. Power on the eDGe.
2. At the "Welcome" or "Wireless" screen, touch the 4 corners in order.
-- Top left (just below the status bar)
-- Bottom left (on the progress bar)
-- Bottom right (on the progress bar)
-- Top right (just below the status bar)

This worked for me the first time.

Enjoy!

First, I agree with your last paragraph,

I know that some items in your list already have posts here, with information on how to get them to work. It would be nice if you have links or info on how you did some of these and if you could post that here. I hadn't looked for some and some I read were not possible, but it appears that info was wrong. I'm sure everyone still watching would be interested.

I still have not spent enough time over at mobile read to look through all the info there. I'm guessing some of it may be there.

Thanks.

My eDGe was shipped by Fedex Smartpost which is really slow and unreliable. I have not got my dualbook yet. Really bad experience with the Smartpost, I must say. Will not consider buying more items if Smartpost is the delivery choice.

That seems to be how it always goes with Smart Post. Either its' great or its terrible, there is no middle ground. I'm angry because my pocket edge sat about 2 hours away ALL WEEKEND and all Monday. They didn't bother to send it to my local post office until yesterday night. So I'll get it today (says out for delivery) but I was hoping to have it yesterday.

Think of it this way. It's hard enough to get a package to you on time with one huge conglomerate working on it. When you have one huge conglomerate relying on another huge conglomerate to finish the job, what do you THINK will happen?

How did you get Skype to work? I thought there was a post on this thread that said it wouldn't work so I haven't tried. Now I will.

Same deal with the SmartPost for me, but not complaining anymore. Mine came today - one for me, one for my girlfriend. Both look to be in mint condition, and are charging now. Guess I'll go grab that torrent with the upgrade, and once we get home from work tonight, we'll get these things going.

Thanks to everyone who's been providing info and links since the PE went on sale - at this point I feel pretty confident that we'll be able to take care of any troubleshooting through the process of activating and upgrading just by looking back through this thread. I mean, it's already pretty obvious where most people wind up having problems, and the solutions are right there. ;) Can't wait to get started.

I am very happy with mine. Opened a ppt and took notes from it on the ereader. Pandora, YouTube and most other apps work great. I had no problem opening articles in PDF. Very convenient, perfect size. So much for 80$!!! That is half the price of my ipod touch!! Really is a unique device, in a good way.

It is to useful of a device to be trashed. I for one am glad they did sell them. We own several of these. Since you don't need to register the device to use it, no big deal. Upgradeable to 2.2. No it is not an iPod, but I don't want an iPod. A reader and tablet in one device. ...

Slide the unlock to the right, all will reveal itself.

Need a little better description of the reader side. You are aware that you need external light to read the reader side.
