anyway, i was calling for guineapigs... i mean volunteers. zephyrjs?
please give me a gmail account and password. probably best if you create a new one since i dont trust myself with access to your personal gmail. send it to edge.pocket@gmail.com. i'll confirm here whether i got the info or not. i created the email as dummy email but it wouldnt work out in the long run. will explain next time.
i typed my whole plan of action then lost it. will retype next time. anyway. send me the info to the email above and i will send you the ( titanium generated) backup based on your provided email address. then keep fingers and toes crossed. oh yeah, i will only be backing up the google services framework and market.
if it works, make me famous! i mean i'll share the idea and hopefully everyone else with android 2.2 phones will assist to give other wooters get market access.
lets try with one guineapig.... er... volunteer... then if it works, i'll help the others.
So, I sent you a couple of PMs with the info but I'm not sure it worked right. Having some trouble with woot's messaging....

I'm not sure everyone understands what that little envelope is for. It has been hit and miss if people respond, especially if they are new at this. Also the message count is only displayed at the top of each page.

I just got it on Tuesday and can not figure out how to upgrade the software, download the apps, download books, etc. I have a droid phone so my google account doesn't seem to work with this. I tried creating a new account on gmail. I am soooo frustrated since I know many of out there have gotten this to work since the company went bust.

Just to publicly note what the status is:
The Market works, Gmail 2.2.1 works (NOT the one you download from the Market). Working out some additional details at this point. Not sure that it would be possible to let the Market backup files into the wild.
I tried Angry Birds - unplayable.
Also downloaded various overclocking tools/cpu speed monitors - none of them work because they don't support the model "edgejr". Might be able to file a bug report with Milestone Overclock to see if they can make a build that works with this thing.
So, this is not a really great option for gaming unfortunately, although if it can be overclocked that might make a difference.

Okay - the answer is the backup files cannot be made public with a generic faux account.
So, you CAN find someone with Froyo who is willing to help you and get you backup files linked up to a REAL google account, which you will then own.
Many thanks to Bogart777.

morriea wrote:I have been looking for something to make it sync with google calendar.....(just not high on my priority list so far)....what did you find?
If you can get the Market working, then you just need to install the google calendar sync adapter (I got it working with version 2.2). To get the Market working, you will need to use titanium backup to copy a working market + google framework from a working tablet/phone running Froyo, and then restore it to your edge including both app + data. Note that both your original phone and the new edge will be linked to the same account. This causes interesting problems with the market sometimes - my wife tried to download an app on her edge, it failed, and then I opened the market on my tablet and it started downloading to my edge instead

yesteryear wrote:I read the instruction manual that took 2.2 nanoseconds to read, dutifully charged it as it says, slide the on button twice, on comes the left screen, Pocket Edge initializing, on comes the right screen looking for the wifi, then, it freezes, can't turn off, can't turn on, the green light turns to blinking red, so now the left screen is the same but the right screen has gone dark, I close it, I open it, nothing. 4 days now with this specimen and no signs of life except the Hal-like red light. I figure this little blinking red let will last until the next century given how little power it uses, am I right? THEN I find out that this $22 squaretrade warranty I bought with it doesn't warrant anything dead out of the box or fails in the first 60 days, I didn't read all the fine print.
Is there any mfg. warranty on these things?
Any advice?
First you didn't read the manual, You were reading the Quick Start Guide. The manual is in the PE itself.
From the manual:
The Power LED
The Power LED is located next to the power switch.
• A green blinking LED indicates the battery is charging.
• A green solid LED indicates the battery is charged or in use.
• A red fast blinking LED indicates the battery is critically low.
• A red solid LED indicates a battery fault with the power switch in the ON position.
• If the LED is OFF, the power is off and the AC adaptor is not attached. The LED is also off if the battery cannot charge (for example if
the temperature is out of range).
Not in the manual:
There are two different blinking states for the green LED.
- 2 seconds off and a quick blink - appears to indicate hibernation mode.
- 2 seconds off and a full second on - battery is charging.
Some units have a touchy power plug. You may have to move it around to get it to charge. Its well worth a try.
If it charges, read the posts in this discussion to find out how to proceed.
You can start here.
If it really is dead, email
service@woot.com along with your
user name and
order number.

It says it is connected to my Wifi and that is is getting an "excellent" signal. But after about 3 or 4 minutes of churning away with the "registering device..." message showing, it pops up with a message stating there is a "Connect 80 error". What the heck does that mean? It shows it is connected, but then it cannot get past this stage. I will never be able to get this darn think "Initialized" at this rate, which will mean I own a brick! HELP!! Somebody...Anybody! It will be highely appreciated.

dprystaj wrote:Is the delay in the 'writing' on the tablet side a characteristic of the device, or is there something I can do to make it go away? It's kind of annoying.
Thanks in advance! And I would also like to add that I was on the verge of finding out how to send this back, but all the advice posted here has made me love this little device! Thanks sooo much!
Don't know. Haven't used that feature except to see if it worked. A number of things have been added to this post. This discussion group seems to be winding down, so you may want to move over to Mobile Read. Reports are they have been really helpful.

musicmaniac32 wrote:I'm not sure if you are serious about wanting the custom decal, but even if not, it's worth posting that people over at the mobileread forum seem to like DecalGirl skins. You can either get stock skins or get a custom one. Check here. I ordered one. I've yet to receive it so I can't speak to the quality at this time. We'll see how it turns out.
Also, if you like DecalGirl on facebook, you get a coupon for 15% off. It says it expired on Sept 1st, but it still worked for me.
ha! Yeah, that was kind of a joke. I'm planning to just go by some stick on letters and do it myself. I did look around online, and found some nice ones too, but I don't need it to be that fancy. Thanks for the reply though!
On another note, I've had mine for about a week now, and I LOVE it. I've downloaded a bunch of Twain and Vonnegut for free already. I can't express how awesome it is to think of a book, click a button or two, and start reading. If my e-Ink screen dies, it will break my heart (but I'll still have my Kindle app to console me.)
Now I just have to get through the MOUNTAIN of ink and paper books on my shelf that I haven't read yet.
F**K. Even in the future nothin' works.
