I'll echo that. Thanks to knowledgeable folks here I was up to speed on my pocket dualbook before it was delivered. Knew not to try to register, etc. Without this forum I'd have been dead. No small concern when you're over 70.

Only things I didn't know were how long it takes to charge a new battery (a few hours) and how to put it in sleep mode. So I just close it and whisper "Goodnight DG"

If you download directly to the Edge from an ebook (epub for reader side) site there is no problem. I have also gone to find books using my PC and downloaded them directly to a memory stick and transferred that to the PE.

I'm not sure everyone understands what that little envelope is for. It has been hit and miss if people respond, especially if they are new at this. Also the message count is only displayed at the top of each page.

I created a gmail account and registered on my phone (which i had to revert to when it asks user to register gmail info) then did a titanium backup. I'll send the files to this email then PM you the username and password. If this works, this will become the primary email for your phone. The gmail account will become yours so change the password and security information. You cannot share the files and gmail account provided because if you sync info from another gmail account, it might sync back some information to the gmail account used for registration. So everyone who uses the same gmail account registration may see some of each others info.

I may be wrong about this so anyone please correct me if this logic is in error.

Anyway, bad news is i tried the new backup on my pocket edge and it didn't work. The only reason i can think of is it may work only on a pocket edge that hasn't been registered yet.

So good luck zephyrjs. Just remembered, my G1 still has the email registered. I'll reset it once everything starts working for you. Don't change the email password in case you need some more files from my phone.

You aren't registering on the Adobe Network, which is why your log in didn't work. The registration was for entourage and their site and servers are down, which is additionally why it did not work.

So, this is not a really great option for gaming unfortunately, although if it can be overclocked that might make a difference.

Okay - the answer is the backup files cannot be made public with a generic faux account.

So, you CAN find someone with Froyo who is willing to help you and get you backup files linked up to a REAL google account, which you will then own.

I'm still fuddling my through this device - there are times I really like and times I am frustrated even after R'ingTFM!

Need some help though... I attached my flash drive that had some music on it and the files are now in the "Library". How do I get them added to the "Music" icon so the music can be played more conveniently?

Super pleased with my Pocket eDGe, and the forums here have been very helpful. The one major frustration I still have? FINDING APK FILES THAT AREN'T ON ANDROID MARKET. Lots of neat apps out there I'd love to try, that I can't find anything for but market links and QR codes (and aside from the fact that neither QR Droid nor Barcode Scanner want to run on it, I suspect the QR codes lead to the market?). Found a fair amount of goodies between Amazon and a combination of various searches for APK files, but still haven't got my grubby mitts on any of the three or four music notation apps I found evidence of, unsure if I actually have a proper APK for Square (the credit card reader) yet, etc.

Anyone know of a good place for requesting APKs?

(Would also love to resolve the thing where I finally coaxed it into syncing with Google Calendar, but it likes to give me force close errors on GMail and Google+ all the time even though I'm not even RUNNING them.)

I have been looking for something to make it sync with google calendar.....(just not high on my priority list so far)....what did you find?

Today's free app(circlelauncher) at amazon works GREAT on this device. It will clean up your home screen shortcuts and it LOOKS great.

If you can get the Market working, then you just need to install the google calendar sync adapter (I got it working with version 2.2). To get the Market working, you will need to use titanium backup to copy a working market + google framework from a working tablet/phone running Froyo, and then restore it to your edge including both app + data. Note that both your original phone and the new edge will be linked to the same account. This causes interesting problems with the market sometimes - my wife tried to download an app on her edge, it failed, and then I opened the market on my tablet and it started downloading to my edge instead

First you didn't read the manual, You were reading the Quick Start Guide. The manual is in the PE itself.

From the manual:

The Power LED
The Power LED is located next to the power switch.
• A green blinking LED indicates the battery is charging.
• A green solid LED indicates the battery is charged or in use.
• A red fast blinking LED indicates the battery is critically low.
• A red solid LED indicates a battery fault with the power switch in the ON position.
• If the LED is OFF, the power is off and the AC adaptor is not attached. The LED is also off if the battery cannot charge (for example if
the temperature is out of range).

Not in the manual:

There are two different blinking states for the green LED.

• 2 seconds off and a quick blink - appears to indicate hibernation mode.
  
• 2 seconds off and a full second on - battery is charging.

I got my Pocket eDGe yesterday and it's awesome!

I read most of the pages of the forum with attention and upgraded to Ermine, but I still have two big questions:

1 ) Is there a way to select a new keyboard? I install thumb keyboard (which I bought) and I can configure it, but the select keyboard option isn't there! [[Edit: Forget it! I found it!!! While using the keyboard, I found a way to activate the "input method" option and I selected Thumb Keyboard]]

2 ) It there a way to add a gmail account in the device's list of account? Some programs use the central gmail account for validating who the device is registered to. Is it fixed when the proper version of gmail is installed?

I added my gmail account in the froyo email app...not the email app (I think I saw somewhere that it did not work in the email app) If you updated to ermine correctly you will see the froyo email added.

I received my Pocket eDGe and have been trying to get thru the initialization. It always hangs up at Step 5 - which is the "Registering" with Adobe and the device in general. It says it is connected to my Wifi and that is is getting an "excellent" signal. But after about 3 or 4 minutes of churning away with the "registering device..." message showing, it pops up with a message stating there is a "Connect 80 error". What the heck does that mean? It shows it is connected, but then it cannot get past this stage. I will never be able to get this darn think "Initialized" at this rate, which will mean I own a brick! HELP!! Somebody...Anybody! Email me at A_Deadman@msn.com . It will be highely appreciated.

Also, it does not give me a choice to "Register Later" so I can at least get something going on this thing.

Is the delay in the 'writing' on the tablet side a characteristic of the device, or is there something I can do to make it go away? It's kind of annoying.

Don't know. Haven't used that feature except to see if it worked. A number of things have been added to this post. This discussion group seems to be winding down, so you may want to move over to Mobile Read. Reports are they have been really helpful.

On another note, I've had mine for about a week now, and I LOVE it. I've downloaded a bunch of Twain and Vonnegut for free already. I can't express how awesome it is to think of a book, click a button or two, and start reading. If my e-Ink screen dies, it will break my heart (but I'll still have my Kindle app to console me.)

Now I just have to get through the MOUNTAIN of ink and paper books on my shelf that I haven't read yet.

I don't have an android phone so I cannot get on the android market, nor could I get the gmail account to work (as I don't have a "compatable device"), so I was running into a problem with getting apps too. I found this website:

I have been able to get all the apps I wanted including Pandora and Netflix. They were easy to install (after the 2.2 upgrade of course) and most of them work. There are many that will not work if they need a GPS location of some sort including OpenTable, but there are still lots of options. I hope this helps some.

for your gmail....did you set it up in the "email" app or the "froyo email" app?
My gmail is linked using froyo mail and works perfectly.
