Poll: The D&D character class I most resemble at work is:
  • 9.4% - Fighter. I charge in headfirst to confront projects! 137
  • 10% - Thief. I prefer the sly, subtle, “strike when the boss is least suspecting” way. 146
  • 7.3% - Cleric. Let everyone else have meetings. I’ll make them feel better afterward. 107
  • 16.7% - Magic User. I’ll hang out in the back and unleash some timely, impressive PowerPoint presentations from a safe distance. 244
  • 39.1% - Elf. Sometimes I take charge, other times I think it through. Depends on the situation. 573
  • 17.6% - Dwarf/Halfling. I’m pretty much useless and should be fired any day now. 257

Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

Granted, I'm showing my nerdiness, but the writers do realize that the last two choices aren't even classes, but rather races that can be any of the listed classes, don't they?

If they had listed fighter instead of warrior, this would have been the old '81-83 Basic Set classes.

Rabble rabble rabble, beat me to it.

Except that in the original dungeons and dragons, (not advanced) you had either a race like Elf or were a Fighting man, Magic user or Thief, but not both.

And Further More BARD!

What? An Elf can't be a Cleric too?

No blessings for you!.....and I won't be removing the curses either.....

Where's the PALADIN?!?!?!

And yes, we have mixed races and classes in this. Though in original D & D, Dwarf and Elf were considered your "class" as well as your race.

Yes, I am SUPER NERD!!

Interesting that so many people on Woot can relate to this (including me).

BTW useless classes = Bards, Druids
Useless races = Halflings, Gnomes
Utterly pointless race that should never be played = Tieflings, Dragonkind (for those who know 4 ed. (an utterly pointless edition that should never be played))

They were classes in 1st edition, right? (1979ish?)

The Holmes/Moldvay/Mentzer Basic and Expert D&D sets from the early 1980s (not AD&D) has race-as-class for demi-humans. Some folks at Woot have been playing that version of D&D recently.

30 years of significant improvement in the genre and you reference back to 1st edition?

I call 'insufferably hip'. Look, I'm really very sorry, but you leave me little choice.

Woot could have at least looked up a D&D book to list Real classes. Dwarf/Elf/Halfling are races

Where is my beloved "Monk" class

-1 Internets for woot.com

Dwarf/Elf/Halfling were originally classes. Kindly turn in your nerd card.

Never played D&D but I'm a take charge kind of gal so I chose fighter.

Fighter as well. Mostly because if I don't get my work done quickly enough, my manager takes over and does it himself (you'd be surprised, it's actually really annoying).

Also because I like to punch people when I'm at work.

Also I'm WAY too cool to play D&D like YOU NERDS. I play POKEMON.

It's only displayed to those that could choose it, guarded by a being of terrible power known as 'The Sun'.

Psh, stop rift with your non-existent endgame and come back to WoW.

Most people didn't know from D & D and, thus, said Elf 'cause it's the most generically applicable. Less imagination and precision than I'd hoped for.

Same boat here, as is most everybody at my company. Both of the main projects' team leads are also level 80 senior engineers so battling bugs and new functionality tends to be a DD rush.
