If it was witty, I take responsibility. If it was crass, inconsiderate or stupid, the dog wrote it.

Timing is everything.

According to the map, it looks like people in the midwest are tripping over themselves to buy these.

dontcounttoday wrote:Wrong 3 piece set you are looking at on Amazon. The set on Amazon you see has another knife instead of the shovel, and does not come with the nylong sheiths I do not believe. Here is the link to the set on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/SOG-Outdoor-Gear-Piece-Sheaths/dp/B003YYYLHC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1315944091&sr=8-3

It is $89.99 with free shipping.

not the same as what woot is offering. looking at amazon, you can buy each item that is shown on the woot offer for a total of $71.21. Looks like the hatchet and knife received 4.5 and 4 star reviews, respectively, while the shovel received only 2 stars with the main complaint that it bends in half easily.

This set just doesn't seem that worth it. The entrenchment tool has gotten horrible reviews and I don't trust the SEAL knife. The Tomahawk looks good, but I don't want the other two pieces of crap that come with it, and it looks like it won't last that long if you use it often, because of the damn holes right behind the cutting edge.

I agree that nobody is going to be backpacking with this whole kit. And as far as entrenchment tools go, I've gotten one from a military surplus store for $10 that's collapsible, it's just damn heavy.

Pretty decent to have in the vehicle if you go camping. I really like the ax, getting this for our pick-up. No its not a full-sized shovel but it will do in a pinch and doesnt take up much room at all. The Revolver is good for putting in your pack or again in your vehicle.

Only if Mr. Patel is holding the shovel.

Man I would love to buy this too. Damn it Woot quit putting up things I want unless it is a gaming laptop for $400 (but I'll wait two months too if it is $800).

Signatures are harshing my mellow.

$39.99 is a good price. Last time WOOT! sold them they were $49.99

I have a similar set (same e-tool, different hatchet/tomahawk, and different knife/saw)so while I can not speak to this set specifically I can speak to the overall quality and craftsmanship. In addition I am an avid outdoors man.

In short, it is okay. If you are a hard core survivalist or hard core camper you will not be happy with this. Digging in hard or impacted soil will destroy the shovel. Digging in sand, snow, or soft soil you will be pleased with the shovel. The hatchet I have is good for falling small trees and splitting small logs for firewood. The saw I have is good for small branches - not more than three inches in diameter at best.

If you want to backup with these - good luck, a lot of weight and space for what you get.

I keep the set in my Jeep for the just in case event. They are fine for family camping trips when camping out of the back of the Jeep. But nothing serious.

They are what they are - it is Woot after all.

Sorry but every since you sold-out... I mean were bought by Amazon, the WOOT stuff, especially the Woot Offs stuff has really turned to crap (And I don't mean bag o crap, that's a whole 'nother story).

Just not what you use to be.... we miss the old WOOT.

Since I do not own a hunting knife, hatchet or shovel, and have wanted all 3 before for camping, I am biting on this, despite bad reviews on the shovel.

Really, its not THAT bad. Just don't expect to dig a bomb shelter with it, and it'll probably work out fine for you.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Woot has been selling SOG knives and gear before Amazon was even in the picture.

I bought one of these last time through and have been happy with it. I used the entrenching tool a good bit with no issues. I'm yet to use the revolver but the fast hawk is a very nice multipurpose tool. I did stab myself in the thumb badly using my pocket knife to open the fast hawk, stabbing myself while opening my stabby things was not so fun
