I wish I had bought a Dyson when I lived on my own instead of the cheapo I bought from Sam's Club.

I've read some reports that the suction/cleaning is very similar...

Is it hype or do they actually clean better?

I think the only difference is that you'll be replacing the Bissel and you're not going to need to replace this.

I bought a refurb off of ebay 7 years ago, still going strong. Compare that to the yearly purchased crap vacs at wally world......it's a no brainer.

It seems like I went through cheapo vacuums once every year or two before I got my Dyson. They really do lose suction incredibly fast. I have had my Dyson for 3 or 4 years now and it is as effective as the day we got it!! It is very cost-effective to pay a little more up front and not have to replace it a year down the road.

There's this holiday coming up named Christmas. Perhaps you've heard of it. It's where your fellow man celebrates the birth of Christ and the tradition follows that 3 Wise Men brought gifts to the Christ child. We kinda do the same thing but Christ has been pushed out of the picture so as to not offend the heathens and anti-Christs.

Or they have a 3 story house and at this price, can afford to equip all three floors with a Dyson so as to not carry one up and down the steps.

Also, some carpet manufacturers specifically state that if you use a dyson it will void the warranty on the carpet. Its not because of the "suction power", its because of the type of bristle they use. So check your carpet warranty first.

No, the vacuum is the same. The only difference is the attachments. At this price you can get 80 attachments after you buy the vacuum and pay the same.

jamina1 wrote:I have this vacuum, and I purchased it from Woot, refurbished, about 3 years ago. I cannot say that I've had any problems with it except that recently I needed to clean the vortex chamber (simply rinse with water) and it's back to working like new.

When I received it except for a couple of scuffs, it appeared brand new.

You must keep up with your maintenance though, like any good machine - I was very fed up with its performance but now that I cleaned it it's working just like new.

It picked up SO MUCH that my old vacuum left behind, even though I had just vacuumed the day before. It's a work horse.

It can be a bit ungainly if you have many stairs - I would suggest getting a hard floor attachment as well to get under furniture a bit better. Otherwise BUY IT NOW! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!! Especially at this price!!

I bought one then, too, and I second the glowing recommendation. And yes, I just cleaned mine LAST WEEKEND for the same reason, so there you go on maintenance schedule: 3 years.

I will also add that I love how easy this thing is to work with. All the salient parts are yellow, easily removed, and snap back together as if it were designed by LEGO.

BUY ONE!

r3hsad wrote:I have this exact model, too, and love it. I have two dogs and a cat, so it has to work hard every week.

My only problem with it is you have to completely undo the cord in order to use the handheld part, which is annoying. It's only a minor quibble considering how well it sucks.

Does that mean it doesn't have a retractable cord?

I am considering buying a second one for that very reason. A LOT less hassle, and one fewer excuse not to vacuum. (I can come up with lots of others, though.)

Generic winter gift giving holiday is just a bit less trollin', but also think of the other fine occasions not mentioned above:
Kids off to college (what, you never shop in advance? Lies. I read all these threads!)
Parental unit birthday!
Retirement!
Anniversaries!
Weddings!

If you can (edited to be more generic) greeting card it, you can vacuum it, is all I'm saying.

I'm just hanging out, really.

Definitely easy to push. My six year old vacuums with it whenever she gets the chance and she has never had trouble maneuvering ours.

Thats correct. Every dyson model has an animal version. The animal version and non-animal are the exact same machine, its all marketing. One doesn't clean better than the other. It just comes with a couple extra handheld attachments.

My sister swears by these vacuums. She has a lab that sheds all over the place, and two kids (1 and 6 years old). Being a neat freak, she can't stand her carpets being dirty. Luckily, she says the dyson gets everything, no problem, and is easy to clean.

When I saw this here, and compared the prices, buying this vacuum became a no-brainer.

I don't want a Dyson. I want one of those Shark stick-like cordless vacuums. We have all hardwood floors and I've never had luck with Dyson. They push the dirt around until you corner it then you have to use an attachment to pick them up. My MIL has a Shark and it works awesome for hardwood.

Signatures are harshing my mellow.

I bought the newer non-ball version of this at Costco earlier this year (DC33? I'd have to look to know the model number for sure). I was SO excited to get it home and try it. What a disappointment. It vacuumed regular carpets fairly well, and did pull up a lot of old stuff I didn't know was there. But the hand wand was awful and was a pain to use. It did not suck. We tried the vaccuum on all the flooring surfaced in the house repeatedly. I liked how it worked on hard surfaces, and was satisfied with the carpet cleaning. But was not at all blown away, which was my expectation for what it cost and all the hype. I returned it, and the lady at the service desk at Costco said people return them all the time for the same reasons I was.
Bought a Bissel Heavy Duty for about $200, and that thing is AWESOME!!! Sucks the nails out of the floor! And cleaned up stuff the Dyson left behind.

My wife and I have 4 dogs and a Dyson...WE LOVE IT! Wouldn't trade it for anything...but another Dyson.

We've owned a Bissell, a Hover, and a Dirt Devil bagless upright vacuum cleaner. All have fallen apart or could not get the dog hair out of our carpet. Our house is a combination carpet and laminate flooring. We've cleaned the house twice a week for the past 2 years with our Dyson and have had no issue whatsoever!

It has nothing to do with the power or lack of power. It has to do with the type of bristle that the dyson uses.

Some carpet manufacturers do say it publicly. Some carpet warranties specifically state that it voids the warranty if you use a dyson on it. So check your carpet first before you buy, or you can go to a vacuum dealer and talk with actual experts to see what they say instead of buying from box stores or listening to tv commercials.

Unfortunately, no. Because she could really use a good cut of that mop of hair on her noggin.

Killer deal on this vac, though. Very glad that I missed the last one for the ball version. I had not seen them in person side by side and never realized how little the canister is on that model.

If the bristles can hurt carpet, what's the impact on laminate floors? I wish my vacuum needed to be replaced but it is still working.
