Wait, what? Can anyone conceive of a *realistic* use of these things?

Remote control lights... wow... does it make your house chirp when you click the lights on and off?

I fail to see the point of remote keyless entry for your room lights if it only works when you're within said room.

You can use it like Austin Powers does to turn on your stereo and revolving bed...

Doesn't seem that great. I mean it's not really a theft deterrant since you have to be within range of the house to turn the lights on via the remote. I haven't hit the point where I'd rather use a remote than walk across the room to turn a light on.

These seem pretty cool, but none of the lights in my house use switches, no outlets.

I can use this to turn on my coffee pot without getting out of bed!

(Since my coffee pot won't respond to voice commands).

Romance. In case you want to dim the lights from the bed. Oh wait, nevermind, it just turns them off.

This will be perfect for turning off the bed lamp in the boy's room when I leave in the wee hours of the morning for work. And perhaps for turning on the lamp at the foot of the stairs as well. Almost as good as a leakfrog for the new house.

I wonder if I have to be in the same room as the appliance. I wouldn't mind turning the coffee pot in the kitchen on from the coziness of my bed. And yes, I've heard of programmable coffee makers, but I am not programmable to get up at any given time.

Do you have to have the main unit to make this work? These look like add-on only modules.

All the functionality of "The Clapper" with none of the fun clapping!! Plus, the added difficulty of reaching into your pocket for a small keychain! I'm in for 6!

I purchased these last time they were offered. They work great. I can turn on all the lamps in my livingroom with just one click of the remote.

If you use a fan, you could turn it off without having to get up (or get out of bed)

I could see these being useful for Christmas tree lights for us lazy folks.

Probably not, because it can only handle 500W of power. Most coffee pots are in the 1200-1500W range.

I use a similar product for unintended purposes. I make my own beer, and there are times I use a pump to recirculate fluid. I clip the remote on my belt and use it to (from a distance but not too far away) turn the pump on and off without having to bend over and plug it in each time.

I was going to get a set of these simply so that I could turn on my living room light in my apartment from right outside the door (my lamp is located BEHIND the door's opening path, because of stupid outlet placement).

Alas, I made a point to search for my free shipping code, and missed it. Sold out on me.

Bed ridden can control a lamp or fan with it.

Does it work with fluorescent?

(Overall signature size was getting large. Recommended signature size is 5k.)

Bought them for outdoor Christmas lights! Hopefully will save me the need to go outside to unplug nightly.

They actually make a clapper with a remote (called "Clapper Plus")

I got a set of three of these the last time they were here on woot. I absolutely love them but do have a few words of caution.

These are part of a larger set that would include a main controller that allows you to set groups on different channels. So the directions for use are essentially useless and just are confusing. Also, the remotes are set to work for one setting only. So if you have two receivers within range of each other, the same remote will turn both on. For me this worked out perfectly. I put all of the mood lighting in my bedroom on these. Now I can turn them on and off very easily instead of having to reach awkwardly for in-line switches.

One of my receivers came defective so the range is quite wonky, but the others have decent range. Maybe not 150ft or whatever they say, but certainly inside a room. And the range can be affected somewhat by things in the the way. I have all of my receivers under tables and behind things and rarely have problems, though.

All in all, definitely worth the price if you want something on a remote switch.

Hack your switch. Pull the switch, remove the switch, wire up and stuff in the receiver. Finish up with a blank face plate.

(Serious on this; that's why I bought 4 last time).

Well, it would be useful to turn on my lamp across the living room from the front door when I get in after dark every day during winter. Except I use a timer so the secondary lamp in the living room turns on automatically about 15 minutes before I get home from work and turns off about the time I go to bed. The only use I can really see for these things is if you are worried about home intrusion during the night. You could hide out in your bedroom behind closed doors and turn on every light in the house before venturing out with your baseball bat and room broom.

I got these the last time they were up (during the choose your own adventure game). I put them on some lights that were hard to reach and weren't connected to a switch, and they were pretty handy in that capacity. Unfortunately, one of the three failed just last week - it won't respond to the remote switch and the light on the unit (like a night light) is out. Took the bulb in the lamp out with it, too. I think these might be better with the programmable controller (these are expansion units) but if they're going to fail in barely a month, it doesn't really seem worth it. Guess that explains the woot-off appearance...
