Sadly, I had to cancel my order. No traffic, no maps, no deal. Another day, another deal.

Premium maps doesn't really mean anything. TomTom has some maps available for purchase, for other regions, that are more generalized and don't include smaller roads, but their maps of the US and Canada are complete; they call this "Premium", but they're just regular maps, same as you'd get in any name-brand GPS device.

9/9/11 was my last notification. Yeah, they notify you automatically when an update is available, after your first update.

Prior to that, the last update was 5/28/11.

I hate misleading marketing (i.e. almost all marketing, I guess). Thanks for the clarification.

Lifetime maps would have sold this to me.

If you plan your route through google with specific stops before your destination and a specific route can it be downloaded to this GPS without it changing the route?

Unfortunately no, it can't do that. Very few GPS devices can do that. You can find individual destinations with Google Maps and download them as individual items that get added to your address book, but you can't download a route.

Can you just plug it into a computer to update the maps? Is that free?

Is the TM feature just for live updates when not plugged into the computer?

Would be nice if their customer service emails contained the literary point of view.

This is the email I got after I canceled:

Cancelled and refunded

While the email does the job it's supposed to do, it does come across rather cold, unprofessional, and unpolished.

And if you think you need it when you live there, imagine how I'd feel driving around when I don't live there! Lifetime maps is a necessity!

Traffic updates are wireless, though they require plugging in via a power adapter which act as an antenna.

Map updates can not be done wirelessly, even with the TM version. They require downloading via a PC. That's not free with this model.

Me and my wife have had several orders with issues. Be it a broken item or two left handed gloves as a pair. We've always had good customer service getting the issues resolved.

I actually like it better this way: to the point without the usual faux corporate niceties. It actually seems more personal like this, evidence there's an actual person talking to me rather than an automatic canned response from some database of pre-recorded responses.

2nd comment FYI TomTom will give you a one time map update rather new or refurb as longas it is a refurb from them or an approved seller.

Please reread my first post from a REAL user of this unit. Despite all I wrote, it is still a buy at this price and although I get lifetime upgrades (there are 4 per year) you could easily buy one a year and not lose any real benefits. Most new streets won't usually make it for at least 6 months anyway. Software and user updates are always free for all units.

No not with this unit. This is a large screen no frills GPS. No BT either.

Oooook......so Im a first time wooter and I got the gps. Trying to decide if I should keep it? There's a ton of back and forth on it right now, but as far as I can tell, 60 bucks is still a deal for what it is, even without the lifetime updates. I have till Tuesday to decide, as the email says, so anyone wanna try to sway me? I really just got it on a whim so I wont be heartbroken either way.

Dang, sorry I missed this. I bought a 4.3" Nuvi for my SO awhile back and use Sprint Navigation on my phone which works fine most of the time, however while driving it can be tough to see detail, especially if I am trying to decide on an alternate route. Big screen at this price was a winner. Oh well, maybe it will show up on the next Wootoff.

For the price? It's not a bad deal. Most GPS units you can get around this price will not have free map updates. So regardless you're stuck with the one you have.

Some people are just annoyed that at 54 bucks with lifetime maps, this thing was a steal. Now it's just pretty much a great deal on a good brand GPS.

Whenever I drive into PA it seems like they have a speed limit sign shortage and I go for miles and miles without seeing one.

Idk if it does, but being a pa native I agree with the shortages. Best bet is to drive 35 in populated ares and 55 highway until you see otherwise.

Thanks I believe I will keep it.

Anyone know if you can hack a gps system the same way you would a phone or gaming system? For the technologically literate ( which im not btw) maybe that would solve your problems? Not that I really know anything about anything, just troubleshooting.

It appears that the part of the description mentioning lifetime traffic and maps is no longer there. I'm positive there was mention of it when I bought it at 3am. For my uses it will still be a fine unit, but that's annoying. It was one of the reasons that convinced me to buy it. At the time I figured it was more likely they left off the letters in the name than added a feature to the list.

i think Woot can't magically produce an item it doesn't have, so just because they mistakenly offered the TM version doesn't mean they can make the TM version available. you either have something available to sell or you don't. i got an email from them since i ordered one before they found their mistake. i could cancel, or let the order go thru. i think woot it a great site, but until i can live day-to-day without making any mistakes, i won't expect them to pull that off. when i do make a mistake, i apologize and fix it. they did that. thanks, woot. you're a great site !! ;-)

I didn't buy one. I didn't intend to buy one, but I'm watching the comment thread, and getting a lot of entertainment out of the people that are pissing and moaning about "bait and switch," and "I'll never buy from Woot again!"

Mark my words - these are the same people that will be here on the next Woot Off yelling, "Where's the Bundle of Crops Bring on the Bundle of Crops"

Damn, people - the information posted was incorrect. It was corrected. If you purchased it prior to the correction, you're being given options on what you can do. It's time to put on your big boy pants (or big girl panties) and get over it.
