We ship via FedEx SmartPost, which is ultimately delivered by the USPS.

I received my XXL 550 today, let me say that I will use this more than 99.99% of you. I deliver your pizzas and will generally navigate to 25-40 addresses a shift. My GPS runs on average 7 hours a day. When it's not on it sits in my Chevy Metro baking in the hot AZ sun.

I am what you would call a heavy user of GPS units. My first and only unit in the half year I have been doing this cost me $100 at wal-mart and was the tomtom XL. I chose tomtom over Garmin because Garmin maps do not include the Native American reservation that we deliver to. The XL has served its purpose and when I saw the bigger version for nearly half what I paid for the smaller one I jumped at the opportunity.

Thus far it's the same as the previous version except with a more up to date map and a bigger screen.

It still thinks around half the places I go are unpaved and doesn't quite get me to the customer's front door but it gets me on the correct road on the correct block 99% of the time. That's really all I ask of it. For the 1% of the time it doesn't I have a smart phone with google maps.

For those complaining about woot's lack of providing what amounts to a $40/year service in the free map updates I say your expectations are unreasonable.

This GPS retails at over $100 and you got it for $60ish and you complain about lack of premium map updates. You are still getting the basic updates and upgrades. If your city changes so much that you need more then pay for you cheapskates.

Woot you are doing a great job thank you for another excellent product.

Well for my $55 per device I am happy with my two.

The first one came with a slight white paint mark where you charge the device, I am assuming from people failing to plug it in correctly.

The second one had almost identical white paint marks, but slightly bigger then the other.

Besides that neither had cosmetic damage.

Turned both on, the first took about 1 and a half minutes to get a gps signal in my house in the woods. The second got a lock within 15 seconds or so.

Updated both, and they locked in almost the same time afterwards.

Now on to the maps. Neither of them were showing up as the free map update, so I called tom-tom, the lady had me sign up for two separate tom-tom accounts, one for each device. She put me on hold while she went to ask what version of maps I should get, and came back saying she would go ahead and apply the update to my account, and she did not need the receipt. Each update took roughly 45minutes.

Went out for dinner and took both GPS, both showed the same speeds same positions same details etc. A nice feature is the lane turn guide, as well as the speed alert. Shows up in red when you exceed 5mph over the speed limit.

All and all, $55 for a gps with latest maps, plus an extra one for my mom, good price.

Turns out to be junk, doesn't download any maps, and when it downloads voices and symbols they do not go to the GPS..they only go to the computer. So this was not a deal as it doesn't work correctly. You get what you pay for for.

I had no problems adding extra map styles nor icons, check your manual on how to select the downloaded content. As to the maps you have to call them to enable them.

It only downloads to the computer not to the GPS.... in fact the GPS doesn't even use the icon I select for startup, or shutdown it seems to pick the icons willy nilly.. Something is wrong with the unit.

I'm not really sure what is going on here, but I ordered this on the 16th, it didn't ship till the 22nd and I still haven't gotten it yet. I've been checking my tracking everyday and at first it said I'd get it on the 30th (which I thought was super long and was kind of pissed about) and now it's saying I won't get it till the 1st.

I am very unhappy with my first time buying from woot.

Ok, I was able to get the updated maps.. be aware it is not going to download a new map set.. only updated maps..which is fine. However the start up and shut down screens still will not download to the GPS. Still waiting for someone ( tomtom or woot)to determine who gets it back, and who will give me another one. So far they are pointing fingers at each other...

Update: TomTom is replacing my unit free of charge, but it will take about a two weeks before I actually receive it with the shipping and all. Woot would not assist me at all. told me to contact TomTom..

so Woot this was my first and last purchased from you, if you can't honor a 90 day warranty, you don't deserve my money.....

They didn't offer me anything and told me to contact Tom Tom..... However to be fair, Woot did say they could not replace it since they did not have any more...In my opinion a poor way to do business

The lack of replacement is just the nature of the woot business model. While most stores have a product available over a period of time that may have replacements in stock, woot's one item a day doesn't really add itself well to replacements (especially if its sold out)

On a side note, I just had the update pushed out to me. I called, they had me email proof of purchase (pdf of the woot receipt page) and within 20 min had the update available. 1.5GB of spiffy maps.

A lot of whining from a single person and it all seems to be because of simple ignorance. Pay attention to what you buy and how things operate in the real world and you may not feel so much like a victim.
Woot items are often shipped via fedex smartpost. That's what you paid for and that's what you got - Pay Attention. As for a 90 day warranty, no retailer handles warranty exchanges. The warranty is from the manufacture-er. It doesn't matter what seller you buy from, if they no longer have the item in stock, they can not possibly give you a replacement in exchange for a bad item. So if woot can't take your return to exchange it due to no stock, then you have no choice but to go to the manufacture-er and it is not woot's fault.

Ingorance you say.. Look in the mirror... even private citizen sellers on ebay take returns, as does every dealer I have ever delt with on the net, or otherwise. In fact most dealers will take an item back and replace it, just to avoid bad feelings... so before you go pointing fingers know what your talking about.

And it hasn't anything to do with a warranty, as much as it has to do with receiving a defective item to begin with.. If you sell something and it doesn't work, you are obligated to give a refund or replace it. I wasn't offered either. I was told contact the maker. However again you are the ignorate one, many retailers do in fact honor a manufacture's warranty especially when they sell the item.

As to fedex smart post.. never heard of it. Makes no sense to use it either..the GPS sat in Houston 3 days before I received it in San Antonio, in the mail... If your going to pay top dollar to ship something then it makes sense to use one shipper.. not two..

Now if woot never takes exchanges or if this was a one time issue .. I don't know, but I'm not going to buy from woot again just to find out....

Also based on your message activity it seems you make a practice of going out of your way to insult people.. maybe you ought not to worry about others so much....

FedEx Smartpost has been around a long time. It is not something that Woot created. Many companies use it and just don't tell you. FedEx and the USPS have partnered together for a cheap postage alternative. It does take longer, hence the picture of the snail next to the smartpost logo. $5 shipping is NOT top dollar shipping. They charge $5 across the board, whether you are buying a box of rubber bands or a mattress.

mick66

quality posts: 4 Private Messages mick66

"I never heard of it"
That's why I said that people need to pay attention. Woot clearly states when an item ships via Smartpost. If you never heard of it, you should have educated yourself.
You were and apparently still are also unaware of Woot's return policy. Do you have any idea what you can do if you don't know a company's return policy? You find out what it is. Yes, it's that simple. Blaming anyone other than yourself is just more ignorance.

Take the blinders off and take a good look.

I called and emailed them, when I called they did the same way, apparently they told me to call again to find a supervisor to do the update because the one I was talking to wouldn't do it.

Before I called, I set up a profile on there site. I emailed them from there website that I bought a refurb xxl and that printscreen the receipt and pasted it on a word doc and told them latest map was expired. I let them know what my email address was associated to my profile and within 24hrs they emailed me they were researching it and then unlocked that map for me on tomtom home.

I also emailed woot saying tomtom said that woot was not an authorized seller, and woot replied that they are and to get a name and case# of anyone that I called from tomtom.

So yes woot is an authorized seller and if customer service says no just get name and case # and talk to supervisor and they say no again get name again and email woot.

When I first used the TomTom Home software, it said that my latest map guarantee had expired. However once I made an account with TomTom I tried to run the guarantee from the tools menu and it worked. Try it before you start sending angry emails or phone calls.

Turned it on, battery had better than a half charge.
Plugged it in to the USB port of my net-book.
Drivers installed as new device was discovered.
Fully charged the battery.
Checked for satellites, checked location, selected a destination, ran a demo, all checked out.
Since the GPS shows up as a storage device, I browsed to the on-board files and installed the interface program to the net-book.
Downloaded the maps and extra free goodies. (It was a 3.5 hour download), then installed to the GPS.
All works. No Problems.

Note: Do Not Attempt To Download and Install Files Unless GPS is Plugged Into a Charging USB Port. The Lengthy Download and Install Time Will Drain the Battery! Then your pretty much shiznicked.

You can always complain about the three usual unrelated things: (1) The Weather (2) Work (3) Politics.

For an example of all three (3) see below:

"Well today sucked because it was hot outside and the boss decided to change the way daily reports are completed, so they now are harder to complete and take twice as long. To top it all off Congress is on recess so it is harder to complain about what is going on in politics. Grrrrrrrr!!!!"

Although I don't work for Woot or have any relationship with them other than being a plain customer, I must admit, that I've been very happy with this woot: I received my tom-tom exactly as described (without the lifetime updates, of course) on September 27, and have been playing with it since then. So have my kids.

Although I've not purchased a new GPS unit in about three years, possibly explaining my happiness with this unit, the XXL 550 locks onto GPS signals faster than any other one I've previously used, even while moving or driving in urban "canyons" (between buildings). Compared to the Microsoft Street and Maps 2007 unit which I previously used, even when plugged into a laptop with a much larger screen, the tom-tom unit is much more accurate. On highways, it seems even capable of discerning individual traffic lanes. This is fairly surprising, since I thought the United States GPS network was only capable of the mean error of 10 feet. This exceeds the width of some traffic lanes.

The only possible problems I have, is a question directed at those who have already updated their maps through the tom-tom website. I purchased one unit for myself with two others intended as gifts. Should I update all of these prior to distributing the gifts, or leave that to the ultimate recipient, as I do not intend to distribute them until Christmas?

In advance, thank you.

IMHO, because there is a 90-day warranty, I would open them and check them out, including downloading the maps. That way, if there is a problem, you can handle it within the warranty period.
