OK, looks like I am only going to need one of the 2 that I purchased as my son decided to stick with his Ipod Touch. I will sell the extra one that I have for $200 and that will cover the shipping and Paypal fees. It still has Samsung screen and back protector on it. All I have done to it was to charge it up and set it up for English. I would also trade for an Ipod Touch 4th gen, 32 gb. The Ipod would have to be in excellent condition.

I have 100% positive feedback score on ebay.

Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks,
Gary

I took my Galaxy S on a 200 mile trip and compared its GPS side by side with my Garmin 295W GPS unit. It worked as well or better as the standalone GPS. I used my Sygic trial after downloading the maps for California and Nevada. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how/where to mount it.

I love my player thus far but I was wondering if the battery life for everyone else is pretty short?
The ad says 60 hours, but it seems like mine needs recharging about 5 and a half hours later. I don't play a lot of games on it, and don't really listen to music from it either - I use it mostly to message other people via Kakaotalk.

Any thoughts?

Bluetooth pairing issues with Galaxy Tab

This merchant claims the listed (and only the listed?) bluetooth devices are compatible with the Galaxy Tab.

Bluetooth devices compatible with Galaxy Tab

1. Is the Galaxy Tab the equivalent device for comparing with our Galaxy S WiFi? Is there a better benchmark device?

2. Is there a pairing problem with our device and various bluetooth headsets? If so, why?

3. Which brands of bluetooth headsets have been successfully paired by posters on this forum?

Good scoping, I see that the list you posted does not include any of the BT sets that had been offered in Woots past.

Any one who bought this: http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4593556

And still has it, could pair it with this and let us know if it works? And maybe elaborate on the sound quality.

For the next time it comes along.
Also @Woot, anytime you're able to get a deal on the 32Gb SD cards... I'll be waiting.

The 60hrs is for audio playback. Video playback is only 8hrs max. You may need to adjust your expectations.

Has anyone gotten a car charger yet? I bought a generic mini-USB car charger but found it only works as plug-in power, not to actually charge it. It also tends to make the device hotter than the regular electrical charger, so I worry about that.

Meant to say micro-USB. Anyone have any luck with a car charger that isn't expensive but will actually charge it instead of just providing power only when plugged in?

There are plenty of inexpensive car chargers with USB ports. I've found that the cheaper ones work fine. You could also buy a power inverter (at Radio Shack or any online merchant) that let's you use the regular power cord in your car.

My DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket app is supposed to stream live video of games. That is not happening.

DirecTV says that my router is blocking UDP packets.

Trendnet, who makes the router, says that I need to obtain the UDP port number from Samsung.

Can someone explain any of this in English?

How do I determine the device UDP port number?

The power inverter might be a good idea. The micro-USB I bought does work as long as the device as plugged in, but it does not charge the battery so there won't be much power when I unplug it. There was somebody on AnythingButIPod who has this Galaxy and had the same problem. If I can use the regular electric charger in the car, it should hopefully guarantee whatever circuitry is in there will help it to charge up the battery properly. It could be that Samsung is finicky. I tried charging it one time using an AC charger for my bluetooth headset, but it took much longer than using the charger that came in the box with the device, and it also didn't stay charged as long. It seems to prefer the original charger.

sorry, found it!
Have been to best buy though and nobody can figure out how to pause and resume long radio programs like my zune used to. Also can't figure out how to read my books that are on my hard drive on my laptop and get the device to open books where I left off. It syncs fine with my kindle books though. Any ideas?

Speaking of Best Buy...
For those of you looking for a good deal on a 32GB Micro SDHC card, BB has their PNY brand Class 10! stick on sale this week for $34.99.
Search for SKU: 2300848. I had a $5 coupon from the BB rewards program to use, so I got it for $32.76 after taxes.
Online price is currently around $27 to $40, so this is a decent deal.

Actually the website says audio is around 25 hours and video is 5 hours on the wikipedia for the Samsung Galaxy player 5.0.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Player

My mom called me and told me that when fully charged, when she watches movies for 2 hours the battery shows only a smidge left of the battery (although she was wondering how much longer she could run on before it actually runs out of juice and shuts down so probably only another hour or so more.

I remember this used to be an issue when I had Froyo (2.2) on my HTC Tmobile G2 phone, but when I updated it to 2.3 OTA, it fixed that. I think the battery is not being utilized or having a memory usage leak. Hopefully Samsung will release an OTA for this (korean) version of the tablet and can fix this battery issue.

Installed a class 4 microsd 16GB card in the tab.

I have a Samsung mobile hotspot and it uses the same charger as the Samsung Wi-Fi. So I assume the car charger they sell for the hotspot will work:

I use Moon+ Reader, handles a lot of formats, can swipe, scroll, page turn with the vol buttons and autoscroll. Best of all it supports some quite small font sizes which I find alleviates the need to page turn every few seconds.

Cool Reader isn't half bad either and supports CHM a little better.

EDIT: Also FYI the Kindle apps and devices are designed to sync progress of a book. I don't think any other program does that (maybe the nook).

I am beyond excited...I finally did it. I found an app in the market called Bubue Books...I have several James Patterson on my laptop in txt. files. I used this program and it not only lets me read them but it syncs to my last page read...Yes, my kindle does this but my kindle does not recognize these books as they were not "kindle purchases." Now if I can just figure out how to pause and resume my 4+ hour Howard Stern mp3s and not have to use my zune for this, this will be the all around perfect device!!

I downloaded Sygic GPS app for a "free seven day trial" and it's still working beyond the seven days. I just ignore the screens to activate. They weren't accurate, anyways. One said the program was expiring in March of 2011 (obviously not, since it was September when I downloaded it), and another asked for a code, which I didn't have, so I skipped it. I downloaded two state maps to begin with, and started downloading another one today and it was still working (there's a separate app it installs that's called "Sygic Downloader," which gives you access to maps from all around the world). I think the program offered for the trial is an older, out-of-date one, but the maps seems current enough, and it's worked for me so far. It even has lane assist, which my Garmin model doesn't have. If anyone doesn't want to pay a lot for a GPS program or download a torrent, the Sygic "trial" is a good deal.

OK that's odd. The App I originally found that worked for LED flashlight use is filed as "Extreme Bright Free Flashlight" But once installed it is tagged as "SimpleTorch Ver 6.0"
It is a little quirky in that you have to punch the power button several times to get the led to activate, but it does work on my unit.

I still have Tiny Flashlight on mine since the other light functions it has are fun and works as a good screen flashlight.

The app just got an update today that I installed and now the LED flash turns on. They've added another button to their menus. Right now the flash will turn on and it says 40% above it. At first I thought that was a brightness rating but after seen the reduced battery warning on the bottom of the screen while using the LED I realize that was a battery meter.

In the Android market it's listed as Tiny Flashlight + LED

Before I installed any apps or fiddled with some settings the battery meter was moving quite slow. Now it's quicker on the downslope. When I had the wifi and gps going earlier in the week it moved pretty fast too. I'm still watching things though I'm suspicious of the apps even though the battery monitor app doesn't really blame the apps for much usage. I've made a few adjustments which should help with things that relate to sync. Apps in the background aren't supposed to use CPU on Android.

The screen and my live wallpaper were big offenders. Samsung doesn't list this handy function in the the digital manual but you can quickly dim or brighten the screen by running your finger horizontally along the top on the home screen.

Some consider CPU use contributes to battery life. I use Watchdog Lite > Real time CPU. Once run, a popular alarm clock app used up to 10% CPU running in "background", even when not active or set to alarm. I switched to a similar app that once run, stayed under 6% when inactive. I'm still looking for a "snooze with my music" alarm using 0% after exiting or a small fraction in background.

"Dialer" was pre-installed, using 0.2% but curious that it's running at all. 2 Google Location Service apps were using 0.2% & 0.4%, until I disabled them (till needed) Settings > Location and security > Use wireless networks. Perhaps obvious, usually bluetooth and GPS are disabled (till needed), using the main drop-down menu.

No tasks were threatened or killed during this investigation.

I picked one up earlier for this. Amazon Verified and I got to use a $10 Amazon gc that I won from @BBMCHAT on Twitter (this dude claims to be the Contest King and he seriously is. Mine seems to be working well, except that the headphones wont work. Tried two sets, no go in the Galaxy, but both work on my DroidX. When I try the FM Radio, it never sees the headphones plugged in either. My Moto bluetooth headset pairs nicely though, so not all is lost. Does Woot have spares for warranty purposes?

I like the video player, it remembers where you left off if you quit the movie. We need that for audio books/podcast's.

I say email them quickly, they know what to do. Woot guys seem pretty cool. They rectified a situation I have with mine, it came with bad ear buds and now a replacement is on its way.

They could have some extras laying around for warranty porpoises. But having them for the whole year of warranty, is a little too much to ask (even for Woot). Maybe some of the claims later on will be replaced with US market versions.

A question to you is, does the FM work w/out wired headphones?

Okay I'm going to answer this with a dumb question but before I do I only mention it because I had the same problem as you.

Are you sure you pushed the headphones in properly? My socket was a little stiff and the first few times it sort felt like it clicked home but didn't.

I think I know how to plug in head phones, two sets even in two different devices. Think I'm stupid? Here, let me show you. You take the shiny plug and plug it in, and see... wait, there is a small gap, maybe if I push it just a little harder... Oh, it snapped in the rest of the way, and now the sound is coming from the headset. Bet the FM Radio still wont work. Oh, look, the FM radio is on. Ah, but it wont scan for stations! Its displaying a message. "Low Battery". Ok, I dont know how to plug in a headset, and, I need to charge it.

Thanks.

I had the same thing happen. The headphone plug on these takes an extra-hard click or twist to get it all the way in. The microUSB can be a little finicky, too. I worry about that one a bit because I've had computers with full-size USB slots get misaligned from plugging and unplugging USB cords over time. I don't want to lose alignment on this one.
