Apple is very protective of Facetime and will only release it for use on their products, I suggest trying out Skype, Qik, or Google Talk

Edit: "permit" may have been harsh and has been changed to "release"

Do any external bluetooth keyboards work with it?

My concern with this would be if it receives any kind of updates to the OS and how Samsung is going to treat this thing. They're already spotty about updating their phones in a timely manner, and those things sell pretty well. Are they going to support this thing in the long run, or is it going to be stuck with Froyo unless someone decides to make an updated ROM? Is there enough interest in something like this to make it worth someones time to tear it apart and work on a good ROM, or is it doomed to failure for not being an iPod, not being a full on tablet, and not being a phone? The price is nice, but I'd almost rather spend more money to get a refurbed 7" that already has some developer support going for it.

The Samsung Galaxy S on TMobile is called the Vibrant. It IS Flash compatible (if it's running Froyo). If you have Froyo, then you also need Flash from the market.

This is NOT the phone version. The phone isn't 5 inches. This is like the ipod touch (and how the iphone used to look like ipod touches)

While iPad users are all up in your face with thousands of apps you can only dream of using. Or having a device that will actually allow you to upgrade the OS through multiple generations. And actually works well.

But yeah, we don't get to use ogg files. That pretty much is the show stopper of the decade.

There's a reason these pieces of plastic are selling for pennies on the dollar.

Psst, can I tell you a little secret? Android can do more than play .ogg files, and I'm pretty sure most *useful* apps from the App Store can be functionally mirrored on Android easily.

Oh, and because you seem to be new here, I'm going to be the one to point out that the blurb on the item page is typically comedic in nature - a la today, going for the hipster angle on .ogg files.

Finally, Android is quite upgradable, now that hardware is coming out with decent specs.

There's nothing wrong with Froyo. What users need to worry about is ensuring that they have access to all of the features in the apps they use, and for Google's apps, you very much do, including the cloud-based Music player.

I've used Froyo, Gingerbread, and Honeycomb, and there are advantages and disadvantages to each, but it comes down to liking or disliking the quirks of the user interface on each one. The last stat I saw, within the last couple of weeks, is that over 60% of Android users are still on Froyo. You're not going to be frozen out by developers dropping support for it for a long, long time.

You forgot to point out that during this past week's Woot-Off there were plenty of iPods of all flavors going for "pennies on the dollar," too.

Well! Just bought one.

I love the Android smartphones. I have been keeping an eye on Samsung Galaxy S2 (ie. Sprint Epic 4g Touch) for some times now. To get the Epic 4g Touch would cost me $150 up front on a 2-year contract with Sprint with monthly bill that equals to $80 (pre-tax) on a cheapest voice/text/data plan I can find. $80 a month! I cannot afford that. That is why I have a prepaid phone at hand.

So, when this offer appears tonight, I have to buy it. I am a developer, and this device is to be served as a development tool to test an app for my site http://www.loudheart.com/ on this awesome huge 5" Android device.

I hope Samsung would upgrade this device to a newer version of Android in the future.

It should work with most BT keyboards. Also, if it is Android 2.2.2 as the Samsung website states, it should also support BT mice (I know that Galaxy S phones with this minor .2 revision do).

Bought it, I may regret it. But Samsung has "AllShare" which allows their devices to talk to each other. So if there is a samsung TV in your house that supports it, you can tream media into it with this.

http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=167364&modelname=LN40C650L1F&modelcode=&session_id

That is the excuse I used to talk myself into buying it.

Developers, no. Samsung? Maybe. For the moment, Froyo is fine, but as apps continue to be made to utilize advancements in Gingerbread, and eventually ICS, it's going to become more apparent that an update is necessary, and quite frankly, Samsung sucks in the update department. The hardware looks quite good, but this thing looks like a device that doesn't quite know what it is. The stock music player and video player on both Android and Touchwiz is lacking. There are better options in the Marketplace, but if this things claim to fame is a media device, then it's a letdown in stock configuration. This doesn't quite look stock and doesn't quite look Touchwiz, so how much difference is there in the software that could potentially be a problem with app compatibility and general use? If it's trying to be a mini tablet, then Froyo is lacking. It's a phone OS, pure and simple. There are things it will do well and things that it will fail at. I can't say whether the price point is enough to overlook the shortcomings, but it's something to be aware of. From personal experience with a Samsung device in the past (Captivate), I'd be hesitant with this purchase. An iPod touch is a better media device. It doesn't seem like a great substitute for a tablet. The option to upgrade the OS seems sketchy at the moment.
