They don't. This isn't an iPod Touch. This is a Samsung Galaxy S. Completely different beast.

Is it me, or is it weird that woot has this before U.S. retailers? I'm in for one, but I prob would prefer the 7"

Don't take him so literally. He just means roughly a phone-sized device with no phone capability.

Looks like B&H Photo is expecting to get it in October and to sell it for $269

The import thing to be aware of that most cheap Android tablets have resistive screens and will never see any upgrades or community support. With this you at least have a faint glimmer of hope that it will get Gingerbread or ICS.

If it gets popular enough, it will be supported, to improve the odds, buy 3. Keep one for yourself, and send the other 2 to the CM7 devs working on the Galaxy S line, they appreciate freebies.

It looks like the short answer is YES. The specs from "Detailed Technical Specifications of Samsung YP-G70CW Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 8GB"

Thanks! And thanks to everybody who answered my questions about the proc as well! I am very tempted, but I think I am going to hold out for a Tegra 3-based device.

Well, Im seriously confused...

I've actually been looking into this device, but nobody in the US is selling them yet, so Im wondering how/why woot has them, and for such a low price, when others arent selling this until october (is there expected arrival)..
the pricetag for one of these is listed as $269.99 at places like bhphoto and best buy. BB has taken down there product page for it at the moment.

I can confirm this is a galaxy s device WITHOUT the phone (wifi access only). It does have the full android market, a gps, and a camera.

Odds are good this supports Skype with video, unfortunately, there are no guarantees until someone gets it and tries it out.

Was in Seoul last month. They are selling this thing for 270,000 won(~$250) there. If you like the idea of the Ipod touch, but want a larger screen, android OS, and the ability to upgrade the memory this is a good choice.

And then you try to use it for anything other than playing ancient, irrelevant, ogg files and there's not much you can do with it. While iPad users are all up in your face with thousands of apps you can only dream of using. Or having a device that will actually allow you to upgrade the OS through multiple generations. And actually works well.

But yeah, we don't get to use ogg files. That pretty much is the show stopper of the decade.

There's a reason these pieces of plastic are selling for pennies on the dollar.

Wow, it took 34 minutes for an iFan to defend their platform of choice.

Each OS has their advantages and disadvantages, please try to be helpful.

Ex: Though the Android Market has many apps that perform the same functions as those available in Apple's App Store, the applications in the App Store tend to have more choices available to choose from and are often more polished.

According to my most recent Netflix app update, it claims to work on ALL Android 2.2 and higher devices now. At least that is what it said in the "New in this version" space.

I paid about double for mine... I had to buy mine from a website overseas because this device is not available in the US yet... Very confused.

Good device if you want something more pocketable, with expandable memory via an sd card,, and android market, and dont want to pay for a data plan.

Having trouble finding a case/screen protector at the moment, as nobody even sells these yet.

So far I'm satisfied wioth mine, though upset now that I see the woot price

This is a 5" tablet, rather like the Dell Streak 5 but without the phone function.

It goes to Market so has access to 3x10^6 apps, is by the maker of the Galaxy Tab (the best of the tablets), and has a very good processor. So, if you want a pocketable WiFi tablet, this is the way to go. On the other hand, if you'll accept a slightly smaller screen (4.5" Infuse or 4.3" Droid X and others) you can get precisely the same functionality in various phones.

But so far, the best 5" phone+tablet has been the splendid Dell Streak 5, which has been discontinued due to excess joy.

Yes, it's true: I was one of the unfortunate who missed out on the TouchPad fire sale. I got wind of it just a little too late. (Actually I did have a shot at one with heavy shipping and tax but balked.)

However, if Woot and Samsung think I'm so desperate for a sub-200 "tablet" that I'll get impatient and stop waiting for HP to notify me of the second wave and buy one of these little toys instead, they are both mistaken. I'm sure this is great if what you want is a Pocket PC, but a tablet it's not.
