Wow, it cost 200 British Pounds at the store it sends you to. Of course, in Europe the electronics are much more expensive. Still that is over $300 dollars.

Any idea why the supply in the US is so low?

Google shopping pointed me to Sears, and all their stores are sold out.

I bought one. If you want a big tablet with good features for the price, check out he ViewSonic gtablet. It's over on sellout.woot.com for $240. I have one of those too, and there is great developer support for gingerbread.

I just got this one because sometimes the 10-inch tablet is a little big to tote around.

Plus, this has GPS and an FM receiver that the big Viewsonic does not.

I've bought too much to list.

To those concerned about it being upgraded to Gingerbread, according to the Samsung Press Release from March of this year it will be. Of course that doesn't help answer the question of when... But, the good thing about this device as opposed to a phone is that Samsung won't be waiting on the carrier to coordinate the upgrade with so it might be faster than you'd expect based on their phone upgrades

"Both devices run Android version 2.2 (Froyo) and will be upgradeable to version 2.3 (Gingerbread)."

I am with you. I just can't see the value in something that barely has a bigger screen than my G2x but doesn't make calls. In my opinion, theses media players are a thing of the past replaced by phones that can do it all.

I saw someone ask this question with no response. Does anyone know if this will work with bluetooth keyboards?

I just returned my wifi Galaxy Tab 7" because Samsung deliberately disabled it and that especially annoyed me after I could have had the Verizon version (same crippling) for $100 less and with better hardware.

For the record, I started with a gTablet and have moved on. Too many limitations without GPS and camera, and required hacking for just partial market.

Peng, don't take this the wrong way, because I very much appreciate your support of the CM7 dev team, but I'd like to try and clarify your FaceTime comment. As far as I'm aware, there's no such "protection" of the FaceTime video chat protocol, in fact I remember Apple being heralded for making it so open. SO.. While I agree that the user base for FaceTime is currently much MUCH smaller than the number of Skype/Qik/GoogleTalk devices, and while I've only personally used FaceTime, Skype, and GoogleTalk, I have to respectfully disagree with your "will only permit it for use on [Apple] products".

Do you guys think woot imported them to have something cool for us, and thus make up for the super crapfest that the last WOOT-off was?

I bought this as a lighter, thinner Archos replacement, without having to pay extra for things like the browser. Built-in GPS, FM radio and the whole Android Store are just icing on the cake! Use the Bluetooth to get data from my phone.

When things like that happen to me, I take it as a sign that universe doesn't want me to get it.

There might be a better deal on something else that you need later.

But back to your Q, I have not tried Paypal here. Just on ebay, I use my card here.

Apple FaceTime is it's own thing. So far it does not interact with any other device besides Apple. They like to keep it that way.

If there is an app in the AppStore for video chat, that is also available on the Android Market... then you would be able to use that.

3rd party video chat will work. FaceTime is only for iOS devices (iPod, iPad, iPhone).

Facetime uses completely open protocols and Steve Jobs promised that it would be open sourced... I have not yet seen anything on that front coming from Apple, which is a shame.

It's interesting to note that the 1 Year Warranty is from Woot, not Samsung itself. That's very unusual for a non-refurbed item. I wonder why this isn't covered by Samsung. My best guess is that it's not meant for the US market, for whatever reason, and is considered A GREY MARKET PRODUCT. Disadvantages include the lack of official warranty support and difficulty in finding accessory and parts. SOmetimes, electronic incompatibilities also exists, i.e. NTSC vs PAL/SECAM. Since this doesn't appear to have any video output, that shouldn't be a problem. Related issues include power supplies, i.e. does this include a US 2 prong (or 3 prong grounded) 110 60hz power supply? Regardless, Samsung (and Woot are reputable companies, and eBay no doubt has accessories and parts.

For a while, Apple was being criticized because there were no other video chat programs available for iDevices, they exclaimed that it was not them locking it down and that the hardware was open for engineering new apps for video chat use. The only machines you will see Facetime on for the next decade or so will be apple devices. You can count on that.

That could be the case... No other websites/companies are selling these at the moment (I am actually very surprised to see them here on woot). I have not seen/heard of an official US launch for them yet. I do know of other countries that have them officially release/for sale

OK, could not resist. My son has a Samsung Epic 4G and I love it. It is also a Galaxy S class, but a phone with a 4" screen. I have the 2 year old Hero and it is slow as molases with the apps.. and just about everything else.

I know this is not a phone but 1. I use a VoIP while outside range of the cell towers while vacationing in the summer. This will definitely run faster. 2. I read on my tiny little Hero's 3.2" screen at night as my Kindle doesn't have a light. 5" screen sounds like heaven. 3. It has radio. 4. It has GPS; you can pre-load the Google maps 5. The battery size (which makes the thing a bit thick) 2500mAh should make it last.

The only thing I really don't like is the 512 RAM, why not 1GiB? Well is the same as my son's phone, yet has more on board memory. This will be fun to play with.

Personally the one thing I will probably not do with it is listen to MP3s as I like those little tiny clip thingies so I have easy movement.

So I ended up buying one. I thought about two but know how these things get outdated fast.

MagicCripple wrote:In my opinion... Having better codec support, the android market, and upgradable via the Micro SD slot, I would say that alone is worth it

Codec support?
There's an app for that

Android Market?
App Store has more apps and usually gets the "premium" media content apps way before android. EX: Netflix and Hulu Plus.

Micro SD Slot?
We have a winner!

My list of why it's better is:

-Gps chip
-Bigger Screen
-Bigger Battery
-Don't have to jailbreak to customize.
-Made to be most compatible with Google(Android) services.

PengLord was correct. It's a repeat of Apple's typical strategy. They release an innovative product, claiming no support for any platform other than Mac. The goal is to boost Mac sales. When that no longer works, they release official WIndows versions. And in the case of Facetime, probably Android versions too. We saw this first with the iPod and iTunes, and somewhat the iPhone. When Steve Jobs was asked in October if FaceTime was coming to Windows and Android, he replied, "We didn't say any such thing." Jobs/Apple is basically waiting until Facebook proves unable to sell any more Macs.

In for one!
Because why do I need more?

I was shopping for a smaller Android anyway. Was looking to buy something cheap on ebay with a bad esn. This should be better. Didn't want to wait on the Galaxy Note.

I hope it has the bluetooth keyboard support that the 7" wifi Tab had disabled, but it's not a deal breaker at this price.

I really loved the 7" size tablet and the Galaxy Tab, even with the inferior hardware of the wifi version, was nice. This will even be bigger than my Palm TX, which I also still love. Yes, I'm still using obsolete technology, but at least I'm starting to catch up.
