My mom still uses her Rainbow from around 1985. She has absolutely refused to upgrade to a different model all these years because the Rainbow still works magnificently - she uses it for floors, furniture, curtains, and dusting.
I've taken my DC14 (a refurb, not bought at Woot) out to her house a few times, so she doesn't have to go through the big production of using the Rainbow when she's also making a holiday dinner. I'd say this model and her 80s era Rainbow work about the same, but since the Dyson is so much easier to use, clean, and store, I prefer the Dyson.
After seeing my sleek & sexy Dyson during the holidays, Mom became jealous and finally admitted that she wouldn't mind leaving the rigamarole behind and breaking it off with her Rainbow to cohabitate with a younger model Dyson.
I am checking my budget (and seeing if my sister will contribute) and may be buying one of these for her today.
