I agree with this. They should bend that rule just a little today. Just saying.

i wanted to purchase two of these. I kept going back and forth trying to add another as indicated (I want 2 or I want 3). But, each time i got the okay to check out my cart only had one flip in it. Am I only allowed to buy one? If so, why have the "I want 2" and "I want 3" buttons?
Now, it won't let me buy another one...

With all of the ranting about how bad Flips are earlier, I have to say I love mine. I have two 2nd generation MinoHDs that I got from Woot last year. They have been great. I made an ealier post about this woot so I won't repeat all of that but for anyone curious about the video and or audio quality they can expect, here are links to the following types of video I have done...

Outdoors (daylight) at a marching band competition...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFt3b1xU1No

Inside a house at night using only regular incandescent lighting (wait until they turn both light switches on though)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NNnUt5cKd4

...and the one I posted earlier of the band that I am in using two Flip MinoHDs on tripods and edited in Vegas Movie Studio (Someone mentioned that Flip videos are not easy to edit but I disagree). On this video the sound is NOT from the Flip but from one of our digital recorders...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz5dLLQio3Y

These are from the 2nd generation Flip so I would imagine the 3rd generation one here should look even better...

I hope this helps in the decision making process.

Again I love the ones I have!!

I forgot to mention, when watching the videos on YouTube you will want to select 720p at the bottom of the screen to see what the video really looks like...

We have these at my office- we use them to record student tutoring sessions to evaluate later. They're awesome! The video quality is very good and the sound is good enough that if the camera is stationed across a classroom, it picks up the tutor talking at the front of the room. Even though they only record video for a couple of hours, the video can easily be copied onto an external hard drive. This one charges when plugged into a computer through the USB.

I'm in for three for Christmas gifts!

This is a good deal. I already have an older version and love it for quick videos of the kids. Getting this one for my son who loves to video he and his buddies skiing.

I am in for one. This will replace earlier versions that I mount on my radio control aircraft. Light weight, good image, low cost in the event of loss (crash).

bought 2,3 and 4th Flip (all this model) during the last woot-off for a bit more money.... guess I'm a sucker totally worth though. for the price it's a great pocket camera that's just a camera. Always reliable and simple to use quickly. Now I'm stuck debating if I want 3 more for holiday gifts.

I bought one during the woot off last month too, its crazy. I thought the woot off prices are suppose to be cheaper than the regular woot offerings to get rid of the stuff faster.

Just got back from my Canadian fly in fishing trip. My buddy had this camera on our trip. Worked very well and video quality is great.

Not a $200+ camera but for $40 it's a steal.

I got one.

sdc100 wrote:No. Please see my previous rant on this topic. The only way to get stills is to do frame captures of videos. This has significant disadvantages, as I explained before. It's one of Flip's major flaws, and I don't don;t understand why it was never fixed.

According to the description:
"Capture photos using the easy Snapshot feature: You can grab a still-image photo from any of the 60 frames that comprise each second of your video"

What Cisco doesn't tell you is that this "easy Snapshot feature" is not built into the Flip. It's part of the software installed on your computer. IN other words, you need to bring the video back to you computer and scan through a video looking for footage. Please see my previous post.

I think what some of you are forgetting is the cost. It's only $44.99 without tax in most states. To get the features you would like, how much do those mini camcorders cost? A hell of alot more.

I have no problem playing with their software after if I notice something I want a still of. This is small camcorder, not a still camera. Most of us have DSLR's or point and shooters, depending on our capabilities.

I just picked one up, knowing that it will be easier to share videos with this than it is to share from my iPhone 4. USB out, HDMI out; sounds like it fits the bill.

Any comments on how long this takes to charge via USB?

I can see charging this off of the USB port in my car.

I bought an older refurb flip video camera from Woot about two and a half years ago. It's been great, when I can get it away from my kids. The thing has taken a ton of abuse and keeps on working. I'll keep this one hidden from the kids. I can't wait to see how an HD one performs. I think I paid more for the older model refurb. I know a lot of people will say you can get better video cams with more features..........yada yada yada. I like the simplicity of this system. Great deal, thanks Woot!

I purchased one of these the last time they were up for sale.

Good quality video, fixed focus and decent audio. The unit fires up quickly and sharing videos is easy with the included app.

The detractors who point out you can't expand the memory or that Cisco has axed this as a product can go ahead and stick with their no name unsupported Chinese crap and be happy with it.

msublette wrote:It is not ideal for advanced video projects that require editing, etc. My son stopped using his Flip when he wanted to start doing green screen, multiple effects and so on. But if you just want to put together clips with basic titles and background music, the Flip software works fine for that.

Can you explain why that is? It uses standard codecs that can be edited with most software. I specifically got rid of my Creative Vado and got this one because the Vado not only had much worse quality but had some stupid codec issues. Anyway your point may be valid but me it hasn't been a problem yet but I only really use iMovie.

Edit - If you were talking about say Final Cut what I've seen recommended is you can dump it to quicktime with streamclip and then work on it in Final cut without out the render issues.

How about getting one of those little tripods with flexible legs that you can mount to just about anything?

For $40, so long as it does video better than my point and shoot and my webcam I will be happy.

Flip video: 720 @ 60 fps
my point and shoot: VGA rez @ supposedly 30 fps, but looks more like 10 fps where the video seizes up and dies every few frames

the only thing cheaper than time is money

Yes- it is not Apple and videos can be easily transferred between storage devices and can also be charged via USB without so much as a proprietary cable. I've had mine for two years and absolutely love it.
