I got one of these last time around:

Pros:
- Works very well, within it's limitations (see cons)
- Great dirt disposal system
- Hose is long enough to handle going up a full floor of stairs
- No issues on regular carpet or bare floors. Gets lots of dirt out of both
- Fairly quiet when in-use

Cons:
- *WRONG* Hose has a ~3-foot wand which is not removable--not great for nooks and crannies; can be quite cumbersome
- Vacuum doesn't fit well under low-clearances
- Between the hose and clearance limitations some areas are quite a nuisance to access
- Vacuum is quite hefty overall,
- Quite noisy if left running and standing up (the vacuum transfers suction to the hose when standing--which can make quite a howl)

So I stand corrected; other wooters have pointed out that the wand *can* be removed from the hose, which should allow the hose to be much better suited for small spaces.

Love this vac! That's an order. When you use the handle vac, it adds 3 feet or so to your reach. Awesome for sucking those pesky spiders off the vaulted ceilings. Show you spiders... sittin' up there, waiting to drop down onto my face area while I watch M*A*S*H. Forget it. Cycl0wn3d!

It works great. I bought it last month and have been very happy with it. Does great on pet hair tumbleweeds on hardwoods and tile.

Got one last Woot-Off at the same price. This thing can really suck, does a great job of picking up anything and everything out of the carpet.

For those wondering about hardwood floors, it has a bare floor mode where the brushbar is disengaged and it uses the power of suction only, of which it has a lot.

My only complaint so far was that I couldn't figure out why it didn't seem to get anything off the floor, then i turned it over and discovered a disconnected hose on the underside. It also seems to lack a good, built into the frame, carry point.

Overall I found it to be worth the cashmoney.

Dyson is like the Apple of the vacuum and tabletop appliance world... Repackage a utilitarian device in a trendy form factor, price it out of the traditional market of competition, and then convince (successfully, mind you) people of why they "need" your product. It's also the best way to bring a Woot-off to a grinding halt. >sigh<

The wand is quite removable in mine if you only want the hose part. You just press the two little yellow buttons on either side of the wand-hose attachment point and the wand detachs.

What's the "stairs tool" attachment like? I've used my friend's Animal Dyson (the larger of the 2 ball models), and it was still really tough to do the stairs. I'd buy this if the stair attachment makes stairs easy.

We have wood floors too, and when I use our current vacuum on them, it pushes air out the sides. This means that any dog hair that is not in my direct path gets blown away, and I spend more time chasing escapees than I do vacuuming.

Does this vacuum do that on your laminate floors?

It's quite good at not blowing dirt around. We roll a lot of bikes across our laminate floor every day, so there's lots of sand and debris and the dyson does very well to clean it in a single pass.

I have one of these purchased several years ago. The Apple comparison is somewhat apt: it's well engineered and can be disassembled relatively easily (to remove stuck items) without tools. My one complaint is that it's somewhat fragile; specifically, the door on the dirt canister is easy to break when you're emptying it, if you're not careful.

I got a refurb DC14 years ago. It was one of my earliest Woots. It still works great and I've never even had to use the 2nd filter (it came with an extra).

The DC14 is powerful and a good design. We have to occasionally use small scissors to cut out long hair that gets wrapped around the brush cylinder.

We have bare floors, carpet, and oriental rugs. This works great on all three. It can pick up whole M&Ms and cat hair. The attachment wand is strong with good extension - with the vacuum on the floor below me and standing on a little step ladder I can reach the top of some blinds that are 15-16' up. It doesn't use bags and it's super easy to empty the collection bin.
