Don't most people just use their phones as cameras nowadays?

I bought one of these for my father-in-law. It takes crisp pictures and is easy enough for the non-digital-native crowd.

That's quite the Christmas budget you have if everyone gets a $70 gift.

Sign me up for your Christmas list.

14 mps with a crappy plastic lense...worthless. I dont care if you have 1,298,234 megapixels..you can only do what the lense will allow you. Thats like saying I can get 80 mpg in my car but yet I have no tires...again worthless lol

Does anyone know if they have a 2 or 3 day woot-off these days???

P.S. I've been out of it for a while ;)

I was waiting for one of these, but I ordered an IPhone 4s instead (like the previous poster noted). I'll try the 'phone as my only media device' thing for a while and see if that works. If not, I'll hold out for the next woot-off!

Not if they want a decent photo.

Unfortunately, your not going to get one from this thing either.

14MP on a tiny sensor is just so pointless.

And the button placement is awful making it uncomfortable to use.

The woot-off last month was a 3-day-er

This has no image stabilization. So if you are shooting by hand and not on a tripod your pictures will be a bit blurry. In all honesty image stabilization is the one thing worth paying more for in a camera. It will totally improve the quality of your photos even if you are an amateur.

True. But there's an unspoken consensus that they guy who's asking everyone to get in a picture that he's trying to take with his android is lazy and not as cool as the guy with a real camera. At least he came *prepared* for the job of taking pictures.

Really though, it's a pretty sweet deal.

http://www.amazon.com/Kodak-EasyShare-Digital-Optical-2-7-Inch/dp/B004FLL55Y/ref=pd_cp_p_4

Amazon lists at $99.61.

This guy's nice because it uses a rechargeable battery. Many camera's in this class use standard AA. Throw in a cheap 4GB SD for 5 bucks avaliable anywhere, and you have yourself an inexpensive 14 megapixel camera. I have a very similar EasyShare, and it works great. It's small enough to fit in my pocket to take quick pics with the kids at the zoo.

For me, I like the stability of holding a physical camera with a nice optical zoom and a reliable flash - things a phone just don't offer (yet).

Pretty decent deal, but I can't say I really need a camera.

Just a note of caution - the 14MP designation might sound great, but you aren't going to get pictures much better than what you're finding with 8MP, unless you make some sizable prints.

PSSSH my Galaxy SII can take some great images. obviously I didnt buy it for the camera but it can beat this thing out anyday. Plus it records video in 1080p. BOOM!

I have the 12 meg version of this. Color rendition is good at times, very poor too. I don't know if they corrected it with this model, but I wouldn't buy another one.

Wait...buy 3 so I can get my bushel of chickens

Have you ever been out taking pictures and had your rechargable battery DIE? Got a SPARE? If not, then AA batteries are a lifesaver. For my SLR's, I carry 3 rechargables. For my pocket cams, I'll stick with AA batteries, thank you.

This is a good camera for the novice. Not so expensive you are afraid to carry it around and gives you pictures that can be printed at 8 x 10 with good clarity.
