But are they bacon compatible?

Jaballer wrote:Can these be reused?

you could theoretically reuse them but only if you grill at very low indirect heat. They tend to warp a bit in the middle and crisp on the edges, that's part of how they work. plus you'd have food gunk cooked into them. But I'd say you could probably get 2 uses out of one if you're stingy.

You can also break them into cedar chips for smoking

Yeah.. I had also previously bought them on a two for tuesday, so I had tons of 'em..

Done right, these really add plenty of flavor to your BBQ'd food, especially fish.

I got these in a Box of Cobwebs a while ago and gave them to a friend with a grill. He loves 'em! So buy them.

Helloooo half my Xmas gifts figured out...

Your oven likely doesn't get hot enough to get the full effect of these. As stated above, they need to be smoking and nearly in flames. Even if the oven will generate that kind of heat, who wants a potential flash-fire in their Kenmore?

I need 13 packages and I could line my closet and keep the moths off of my wool coats!

Limit is 3 -- oh well, didn't have the $150.00ish anyway.

ruadog wrote:I got some of these last year from Woot and I will warn you they are much more "cedary" that others I have used. Makes the food taste like hamsters.

And to pre-emptively answer the recurring question about these, "No you cannot reuse them." If you do it properly, the plank will be very charred and burned when you are done with it. The whole point is that the wood almost burns, releasing the smoke and cedar flavoring. If your plank is in good enough condition to reuse it, you either don't have the grill hot enough or you didn't cook your fish long enough.

I lol'd.

I'm always tempted to buy these things. I dislike salmon a lot, but I make it every now and then because it's "healthy" hoping I will miraculously like it one day. I have not. I am not sure if your description makes me hopeful or if it's making my tummy churn...Still tempted and still undecided.

This is a really good deal and these planks are GREAT for salmon, chicken and veggies. Seasoning recipe on the back of the label is really good, too. Highly recommend.

I have reused my boards a couple times no problem. The best veggie on the boards in my opinion is asparagus. Leave them on the board until they are a little charred and yum. Another favorite is salmon.

Got these when they were on previously. Made salmon twice using one since. Really liked the flavor. Used the same plank twice. The first time the wood didn't get too charred and no flame ups. The second time I tried having the heat up a little more, and it got pretty much burnt and big flame up, but more of the sweet smoke that you want.

Are these from valley cedars, or hillside cedars? I only grill with cedar planks from trees that were grown on SE facing hillsides at altitudes between 4000-6000 feet amsl.

When and where were these trees planted? 1987 and 1992 are supposed to have been the best years.
