I was just looking the other day, was planning on buying a Dyson Ball if I could find one for <$300, and this fits the bill. Hope it works!

Also, I was very confused by them offering different colors when Dyson markets them as slightly different models (Silver = Limited Edition Blueprint, Yellow = All Floors, Purple = Animal) and was pleased to find the main differences between the retail versions was simply accessories. I liked the Animal (have pets + allergies) but didn't want a Purple vacuum, so I'm in for a Yellow one!

So the purple is an Animal? Aren't they slightly more usually?

They are, but the price difference is literally an accessory - a suction-powered rotating brush attachment for cleaning hair off of upholstery, which isn't included in this refurb one.

Reviews of that attachment alone are mediocre, and was previously mentioned in the thread most reviews say its not worth the increase in price (although the price increase is less than buying the tool separately).

NoSup4U wrote:Miele was about 12 years old, had already had the motor replaced once and just wasn't working well anymore. It was a great vacuum though when it worked well. Was just expensive to buy, expensive to fix, and the bags were super expensive. (The motor had to be replaced because we used aftermarket cheap bags for a while that didn't filter well apparently)

Based on your comment, I'm guessing you don't understand the point of a filtration system. Here is what happens: As you vacuum, you suck up dirt from your floor. If the air running through your vacuum isn't filtered, micro-particles of dirt are sprayed all over your house as you move the vacuum around from room to room by the high powered suction motor on your vacuum.

Now contrast that with emptying your canister. A small puff of dust poofs up in a very localized area (inside your garbage can) then falls to the ground, which in this case is inside your garbage can. Do you see how that is totally different than the previous scenario where micro particles are sprayed all over your house by the vacuum motor and that a small localized puff of dust does not make the dyson's filtration system "totally useless"?

I can agree that the wand tool is terrible though and totally can see why that would keep someone from recommending it. I do not understand what they were thinking with it, it is so bad.

Fair enough. I guess my point is that in your scenario all you are doing is taking the allergens and releasing them in a different location, which I suppose means the filtration isn't exactly "totally useless". If you have bad allergies (I do not), then this is far less desirable then removing a sealed bag from the unit.

Of course this also assumes that the Dyson's system is sealed, which it hasn't been in the past (check youtube), so it's very possible that even without emptying your canister you are still shooting allergens back into the air as you vacuum.

By the way, for anyone wondering: Miele bags are around $5 each (pretty expensive), but mine last for quite a long time, 6 months or more. I also never wear shoes in my house, so I suppose this just depends on your usage. Less than a dollar a month is more than reasonable to me.

Thanks - Leaning twords yellow too based on color but what extra does the Limited Edition Blueprint have ... Confusing because it was 279 on sellout woot and says it has a motorized brush bar but on the Dyson site only the DC24 says it has that. Not the DC25 Yellow or Purple.

Can you specifically detail out what problems you had? I'd like to know the material motivations for you decided to metaphorically throw your dyson under the bus within it's first month of service.

kulowd wrote:Before you buy this you should check out reviews, especially the negative reviews. I am not even close to being enthusiastic about the Dyson I purchased. Dyson's have some serious issues when it comes to vacuuming throw rugs, area rugs and transitioning between surfaces. I bought my first and last Dyson a few weeks ago. Let the buyer beware. Some people love these machines. Not me.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you DO suck up something like the edge of your area rug, the Dyson lets out a BRUTALLY LOUD ratcheting noise that could wake the dead. It's really pretty scary the first time you hear it.

People seem really opinionated about vacuums. Why not just provide personal experiences with and/or facts about the Dyson dc25? Let the people make a decision for themselves.

Dyson is awesomeness acheived. We have the DC25, got a refurbished model on sale at Big Lots for about the same price. We love it. Now that we have two Roombas on patrol, we don't use it as much, but still need it for the deep cleans.

The Dyson won't make it easier to vacuum, but it does vacuum much better than other vacuums I've owned in the past.

We have 3 dogs, all of which shed like crazy. Between the three of them, they have long hair, undercoat and short spiky hairs. The Dyson picks up all of it out of rugs and upholstery. Though it has an upholstery attachment, I actually just put the whole thing up on our couch to vacuum. It does a great job at really getting out the hair.

Also, we live in the desert and so it's always really dusty in the house. Dyson does a great job of getting that up too. So basically, if it can handle dust and ridiculous amounts of dog hair (we're talking tumbleweeds), then it can definitely handle whatever you have to give it.

I'm looking online at it right now and I see three models rated higher than this one, one of which only costs $130 and in their "Recommended" section they list the DC28 but they also say "But you'll find similarly strong performers for less."

I'm not seeing where it says "Best bagless upright vacuum" Can you tell me where you found that statement?

There may be some confusion too because most of the "Animals" you see are the upright, which are more expensive. My mom has the Animal Upright.

In a prior Woot folks are saying they got a purple but it did not come with the "animal" attachment.

The bin size is a lot smaller than the 179 one and it is slightly less powerful. But for those trade offs ... you get a ball.

Let's just keep it real. Just get what makes you happy. If you are in the market for a $249 vacuum cleaner that is decent this is a no brainer. Nevermind all this other nonsense. Life is too short to argue semantics over a $249 vacuum cleaner. It picks up dirt and it looks great. Done. kthxbye.

I have one of these already. It's a sweet deal at $250 for an AWESOME vacuum. All Dysons are NOT created equal. I have a 2nd Dyson at a rental property. Those without the "ball' technology are heavy and cumbersome to use. I have the ball "all floors" at home and just love it!!

The "animal" model just means more accessories you'll likely never use. Not that it's better if you have pets. I have the purple animal model at a rental property and this "all floors ball technology" model at home. I LOVE the all-floors ball WAY better and I have 2 dogs and a cat. No problem picking up pet hair at all.

I own a Kirby upright (bought new) and a Miele canister (bought used in 1991.) Lately bought this Dyson model.
The Kirby has broken down time after time and, not having the fix-with-screwdiver expertise, it has cost me some hundreds to fix. Parts also sky high in price. Does a good cleaning job, when it works, but weighs a ton and a great dis-incentive to cleaning upstairs.
The old Miele just keeps chugging. I bring it into the shop for a tune-up every couple of years and it has never failed me. May not be the top cleaner (no canister is) but it's always there and can be toted upstairs easily.
The Dyson blew me away with how well it cleaned - rugs actually changed color. (I have multiple cats.) However, within 3 months, the refurb unit began to spark and it ceased working. Dyson did an excellent job of standing by their warranty and it returned to me in perfect working order.
Have not used the attachments, but then, I never used the (many) Kirby attachments either.

TheNewton wrote:I have two vacuum's, a Dyson (wife loves), a Kirby (bought used and my vacuum of choice).
Price: of course in the arena of high priced vacuum's Kirby is right up there but I bought this used so it was about even.
Weight: advantage Dyson and the main reason wife prefer's it.
Cleaning: Neither of us can see any advantage. I think the fact that you have a clear cannister on the Dyson gives the illusion that it picks up more than a traditional bag vac.
Repair, Durability: Kirby clear winner, my Kirby is over 25 years old, metal, and most anything can be fixed/replaced with a simple screw driver.
Attachments: For me the Kirby, hate using the tool on the Dyson, stretch that hose out and the damn vacuum rams you on the back side.
Bag vs Bagless: One time emptying the Dyson was all it took. Open the cannister, cloud of dust, give it a shake more dust and god forbid you have anyone with long hair because now your sticking your hand up in there trying to pull the crap out.

Bought the DC10 a few weeks back refurb on Woot! (yellow.) Nothing but a delight so far, works great and completely surprised how much more it picked up from my older Hoover. Also a lot quieter. Would recommend for anyone interested!

I have never met a vacuum that did not suck.... Only a sucker would pay $250.00 for a vacuum. I do not care if it 'rolls' on a ball or 4 wheels or floats on air. It is not worth $250.00

Dyson just came out with a new heater called the Dyson Hot. It's a variation of the ridiculously expensive "Air Multiplier" (give me a break).

For $400 you get a portable heater that doesn't do anything any different than a $60 portable heater except cost $340 more.

If that doesn't give you a clue about Dyson and what they offer with respect to cost versus function than you people are clueless.

I used a Dyson five years ago, and pretty much on a weekly basis. You know that old joke about a vacuum sucking? Well, over time this one didn't. To have it repaired, my local vacuum salesman/repair shop owner told me he couldn't help me AND I'd have to ship it back to the manufacturer. Hearing that really sucked.

Same here. Got mine today and was disappointed to when I unpacked the box and found an orange one. It doesn't even resemble yellow. Some sites suggest it might look gold-ish but the one I am looking at is straight up orange. Any chance we were mailed the wrong one?

Hey Woot people,
I was so excited...finally got my purple dc25 today. Put it together, tried to use it and it SUCKS. Not in a good way. The brush does not stay on when the vacuum is turned on like it is supposed to. And, no, I am not hitting both buttons, just the power button. Also, no suction. Motor runs, air blows out of ball, but no suction at all. Please tell me there is a something I am missing here. I really don't want to go through the hassle of having to get this replaced, fixed or refunded and have to pay to ship this 20lb vacuum around the country that should be working when I receive it. Please help.
