This may be one of the most unexpected woots of all time. Buckyballs? Sure. But seriously. That title is a little too much to take at 1am.

FYI these are Buckyball Sidekicks, which have 125 balls vs the standard size Buckyball with 216 balls.

Unfortunately these are only BuckyBall Sidekicks, rather than the full sized sets of 216 (I think), these only contain 125 each. But at least it's for a good cause right?

is there a factory warranty with these buckyballs? i got some from woot, and the metallic layer has come off and now the metallic dust gets all over my hands..... otherwise this was an awesome purchase and highly recommend it.

I can only dream of the day we see the last Buckyball from Woot. The colored ones are known to rub off.

I'll have to say the Komen people are some BUSY folks though! I see that everywhere. Too bad there is no corollary between money and a cure, but at least it makes people feel good about themselves.

I bought Blue Balls and silver balls from woot. While it is a lot of fun to build stuff and pull things apart; my coworker and I have wasted plenty of time throwing these at the fridge. Little balls of metal shouldn't just stop and stick like that. If you own these already you should try it. It's a lot more fun than it sounds.

Coming up on Thursday: BuckyRhombuses!
Then, on Saturday: BuckyDecahedrons!
Okay! enough with the Bucky-fill-in-the blanks!

Please, Woot, offer me something DIFFERENT.
I really am looking for a reason to give you my money...

Hey guys. Everyone has different feelings on what charities they would like to donate too and I think we can all respect that.

May I ask however, that discussions of that be moved to another thread other than the product thread. If someone would like to open a thread for this discussion on World of Woot, you can link to it here.

Edit: Additional discussion of the charity can be found here

Thank you!

You know for the amount of buckyballs that woot sells, I am really starting to doubt that those magnets are really rare. Maybe they found a whole stash in London right next to all those gold coins in mint condition we keep hearing about....

Do I want an extended warranty? Why, I'm just going to void it anyway.

When they first started digging them up they thought they were rare, but as they dug more they kept digging the stuff up and it wasn't as rare as they thought. It has a neat name that sells products like this though; so they decided to keep the name.

Here is an article on rare earth metals (including the ones used for magnets) for your reading pleasure

I'm deleting posts about the pros/cons of the charity. Not because I or woot agree or disagree but because we would like the product thread to focus on the product.

Thank you!

So what you are really saying is.....don't bet on woot running out of buckyballs, cubes, etc. Anytime soon???? O no, please say it is not so...

Hey Woot!,

I just wanted to let you know, I have been here for awhile now,(a couple years, I've even purchased a few items).

This current discussion thread for this topic has seriously made me reconsider our relationship. Am I saying it is over right now? Not yet, I need some time to think about it. I need to see how this thread turns out in the long run, before I make my final decision.

The blatant censoring of people trying to speak about a product in the place it is designed by you to be discussed, is horrendous.

This will probably be deleted just like everything else has been.
Shame on you woot.
SHAME...

Yes, but the amount is 2 for the same price as one sidekick AND the book.

You can just cannibalize one to make a full 216 piece pink cube. With plenty of extras, as replacements as they get lost.

Hey gang, I know passions run a little hot when charities get involved, but let's make sure to keep the thread on topic and avoid asbestos suits. =)

I'd encourage you to bend your formidable google-fu on researching the charity if you're concerned -- you certainly shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet -- and making the decision for yourself.

If you just can't contain yourself, some folks have set up a thread in World of Woot to discuss the charity. By all means, let us know how you feel there.

Did you know shirt.woot ships internationally? Get you some!

if you're going to put up a product that is specifically geared towards a "charity", then you have to expect (and respect) comments in the regular discussion feed about that "charity". otherwise, don't put up that stuff for sale!

I remember playing with magnets around the old tube tv when I was a kid and my dad threatening me with death. Does anyone know if it's still potentially harmful to flat screens like LCD/LED/Plasma like the old tv's were? My neices come over and would HATE for something unfortunate to happen to my flat screen......then to them.

I couldn't care less about what any charity does with their money. That isn't the issue I have. The thing that bothers me is the censorship in this thread about a product that includes a donation to a charity and then you saying, "Whoah partner, this here is a charity free discussion zone."
If it is in the product description, people should be able to discuss it on the product discussion page.
End of discussion.

I believe the issue was it looked more like political trolling the a discussion of the charity. It's perfectly reasonable to discuss the charity without resorting to things that are almost certainly going to trigger an emotional flareup.

If you want to make a point -- and we hope you do! -- make it so it can be discussed reasonably. That said, I think the original confusion of trolling may be cleared up and we can carry on.

Edit: Please make sure to respect your follow wooter's beliefs. Just because someone may be wrong doesn't mean the other person is right. =)

Remember, though, that this is a thread for discussin' Bucky Balls. There's plenty of Zen Magnet controversy to hit on before we get to mud slinging.

If you're birthday falls on a Tuesday, there's a good chance of buckyballs since they work well with 2 for Tuesdays. You had to know that.

I remember playing with these on my co-workers flat screen monitor and being disappointed at the lack of funny colors. This was just a computer monitor though, couldn't give the specifics on it other than it being a flatscreen.

I second this- It's easy to jump to the conclusion 'trolls being trolls' when the person talking the loudest created their account today.

I appreciate your position and desire to keep this a troll free zone.
We all want this to be a trolling free zone.

However, instead of saying that initially we got a blanket, "you are not allowed to discuss a part of the product here in any way shape or form, it will be deleted."

That is how I and many read and perceived the initial statement and subsequent deleting of every mention of "the charity from the product description" in this discussion.

Actually, the account was created today because I couldn't remember this one. Having time to look once I was placed on probation for reposting my censored post gave me time to look this one up.

Had woot left the info up without censoring it, and the many who agreed (that I had no part with other than being in agreement with them), then I wouldn't have posted again.

Unfortunately, woot doesn't believe that less desirable parts of their product are worthy of being discussed in the open and should instead be discussed with only like minded people in an area where no one will ever see it.
