I like the magnets. I started buying the square ones from online magnet stores.

Last time bucky cubes were on here I bought a set and will do it again when they appear.

I will be getting a set of these or 2. I like the colors and just fun to mess around with.

I wish Zenmagnets would put one of the large sets on here though :-)

Read the full recall info at the bottom.
*Claps* Bravo.

You realize that recall is only because the packaging says 13+ instead of 14+ for age. apparently 13 year old children are stupid and eat magnets, while 14 year old children are much more responsible and never do anything stupid.

That was my experience growing up. I think they flick a switch when you turn 14 that suddenly turns on the personal responsibility.

Meh! Why sidekicks?

It's not about getting fewer balls- this is a better price per magnet than retail, even if you don't count the book and donation. It's the same problem I ran into with the buckycubes... 125 just isn't a good number.

216 is a nice number of magnets, 6*6*6 = 2*2*2*3*3*3. So, when making geometric or otherwise mathematical models, you can divide the magnets evenly into 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 18, 24, 27, 36, 54, 72, or 108 equal groups. with 125, you can only partition your magnets into 5 groups, or 25 groups. And it's an odd number.

I was a fan of the special 144-magnet sets that were sold in previous woots, because that was at least fairly round despite not being an exact cube (and 3 sets made two "normal" ones).

Sorry woot, despite my expensive addiction to these silly things, I have to say no tonight.

ONE OF THESE DAYS, I'M GOING TO CUT YOU INTO LITTLE PIECES.

If it makes you feel any better, just buy them and pretend you're getting 1 set of 216 and 34 extras.

On a serious note, though: I work overnights in an office with about 2-5 other people on any given day, and I have to say these things have provided hours upon hours of entertainment for us. I've actually been waiting for them to show up on Woot for about a month now because of how good of a deal they are here. The book + charity is a nice bonus :D

Pink buckyballs look pretty cool, and the book sounds interesting, do these pink buckyballs send out little Chips and Deteriorate like the regular ones, cause I don't like that at all. I hope all these Buckyballs can work together to make something great.

you're killing me here woot. I'm torn on this one.

I love these things, and have been waiting for woot to do the 2 packs again = Pro. BUT, they are the side kicks with fewer balls = Con. BUT, it comes with the bucky book = Pro. BUT, I can deal with the color, except for I can't trust that these colored ones will last any longer before flaking then the black/gold ones I got last time = Con.
Donation to charity is a plus, but this set isn't quit what I'm looking for. Can I pass it up not knowing if woot will EVER do the 2 for 1 deal on the normal bucky sets again though?
Plus, I do love both breasts and magnets....

It could go either way for me right now.

(Side note; does anyone know how the zenmagnets line stacks up compared to buckyballs?)

First, a question: is a 5x5x5 cube easier to cube than a 6x6x6?

Second, to the writer of the article: I recommend rolling the pink buckies in the iron shavings from wooly willy. Then they'll look like part of the male anatomy.

I HATE the amount of pinkwashing out there today and it irritates the hell out of me that woot joined in on it. Had the "donation" to "research" been more than three dollars, I would have said forget it. You really can't beat the deal woot gives us for the buckyballs though, especially when you're addicted to them like me.

Any chance of the blue-ish, green-ish (teal) buckyballs?

OK Woot, have thick enough skin and the integrity to post a withering rebuke: Nothing Woot has ever done, in my view, is as inappropriate as FAILING to inform prospective customers of Bucky Balls about the specific, tiny size of this product. The views on the home page are profundly misleading, they make the product look many times larger than it actually is. When I received them, and tried to return them because they were impractical for a person with large hands and/or limited manual dexterity, I was told that I should have looked at the video that accompanied the product page. In other words, "Caveat Emptor". Come on, Woot, you are better than this. Aren't you? I wish Amazon would step in from time to time and ensure that their acquired company shows the same standards as Amazon itself.

No, they don't. Part of what Susan G. Komen does is support breast cancer screening programs. It is true that some places that provide other services you don't like also provide breast cancer screening programs. From their PDF, the Komen foundation periodically checks to make sure their funds are only used for breast cancer screening purposes.

So, don't worry, money from Komen is not going to abortions. If you support the Komen goal of fighting breast cancer, the screenings are part of that goal. Many "clinics for poor people" may provide services you disagree with, but the Komen dollars do not go towards those services.

You can cease your boycott now. :-)

If the quality of the finish is anything like the green Buckyballs that Woot sold on St. Patricks Day this year, I've got a tip for you on how to get some free Buckyballs!

Buy these pink ones. Play with them like normal. For me that means that in addition to making cool structures, you wad them up and use them like a stress-ball, squishing them around in your hands.

After a few weeks of this, notice how the finish is starting to flake off. Email Buckyballs and complain about the flaking finish. They'll send you replacements at no cost. Ta da! They don't ask for the old ones back, so you just doubled your investment.

tl;dr - The finish on these probably won't hold up to regular use.

Buckyballs are great to have in the desk for a quick stress relief.

Whether you just roll them around in your hand or actually make something with them it's nice to have at your disposal when you need them.

As a long time wooter (200+ purchases), I've always appreciated the knowledge and experiences shared in the blog. They've pushed me to purchase/not purchase a woot many times. Woot opened this can of worms by including a forced donation to a controversial charity and the outpour of passionate responses should have been anticipated. Hopefully, Woot will learn from this and avoid such issues in the future.
FYI: I purchased today's Woot based on product information and moved into my apolitical world.

I'm confused. The product shown on woot.com today is "Pink Buckyballs 2-Pack with The Big Book of Bucky & $3.00 Susan G. Komen Donation." When I click "I want one!" I am told that "You want 1 Maxfield & Oberton $3.00 Donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®(s)." Clearly, the donation is part of the product on offer today.

Why is the product thread discussion being limited to only two of the three items included in today's woot, while discussion of the third item is ghettoised off to another thread? That doesn't make any sense at all.

I cringe and run at anything "pink ribboned".

Ever October everybody and there dog makes their product pink or slaps
a pink ribbon on it. Don't get me wrong i support the komen foundation and their work. For that matter my wife is a breast cancer survivor.

The issue is that little of the "pink" money ever goes to the Komen foundation, most is just added sales to the company making the product. Granted part of the problem is that the Komen foundation should have better "licensing" control over their name and logo to ensue that an appropriate percentage of the "pink" product sales goes to the foundation.

Hmmm, apparently others are allowed to say their piece about Komen, but I got my wrist slapped. Ok, fine. Sorry for the suggesting that you had let the buyers choose to add a donation to their purchase instead of making them either buy the product AND support the charity of woot's choice, or not buy the product.

Guess we'll see if this post gets removed as well.

A little disappointed in the price. Normally the $30 + $5 shipping yields 2 full-sized Buckyball sets here on Woot, not the sidekicks. A significant less amount of balls total.

It's like Woot, rather than taking the $3 out of their profits, simply raised the price $3 to make the same profit and still donate to charity.

Susan G. Komen's work towards making sure all women have breast cancer screenings is incredibly important. As someone who had a family-member who died at least partially due to a late diagnosis, I cannot stress how important these screenings are to all women in our lives.

I won't be making the purchase today, but I still want to thank you Woot gods, because you have at least inspired me to make a donation to charity today.
