If you can afford this, you have central air. Turn it on. No fans, no cord, nothing to dust. Buy a vase for a conversation piece.

I bought this fan at Direct Buy for more than listed at Woot. It is a great fan, it is quieter than other fans I have purchased - and I have bought plenty over the years. I does have an odd wind dead zone in the middle of the airflow - think of the air hitting you in the form of a circle and no wind in the middle of that circle. The air is sucked into the base where the motor is then gets pushed up the tube to the circular head of the fan. On high settings it does have a sort of, what I would imagine, the sound of a wind tunnel. Combined I have spend more on less functional fans than this one - a good buy.

How the LOOK BEHIND YOU! is that even possible? Did you buy a fan with a solid gold blade?

I'm so confused why people who were stupid enough to buy these things try to prove they were justified with hyperbolic comments that are patently false...

Don't bother with these. They don't work as advertised and they're loud. Dyson needs to stick to vacuums and hand dryers.

We looked at these Sears and the first thing that the salesman said was that they really work ... as fans (and nothing more).

The second thing he told us was not to waste our money.

I have experienced these things on showroom floors. They are quiet, not silent. The big problem is they really do not move much air. They may multiply the fan in the base by a whole lot but the fan is barely more than a CPU cooling fan.

Y'know, I'm just waiting to hear this in a comedian's routine in the future.

"Remember when phones had cords and fans had BLADES? Right, what happened to the fan blades. When I was a kid my father would just look at me and laugh when I stuck my finger in a running fan. But no, we're so soft we had to make our fans safe for BALLOONS! What's next, bladeless steak knifes?"

For some reason I hear that rant in Louis C.K.'s voice.

So you are admitting to making two major financial mistakes rather than just one?

Listen... everyone (well almost everyone) knows Direct Buy is a con, which explains why they are sued every other month and why the parent company changes their name every five or ten years as they start the same thing over again. People who advertise they are members there are basically telling people they aren't capable of doing research and just like to join clubs to feel special.

The fact you bought into this "bladeless fan" is even more comical, because it is just a small fan hidden from view, and as a result of the air chamber design, it actually moves LESS air than a $20 fan from Walmart.

Oh yea... and they are noisy. On full speed they move less air than a cheap fan on low. I fail to see the real benefits here. I will admit they are safe for pets and kids, but so are regular fans if you don't remove the protective grate.

Combined I have spend more on less functional fans than this one - a good buy.

On what planet is this a good buy? Surely not this one. It might be a good buy if your last name is Brewster and you have 30 days to spend $30 million in order to collect your full inheritance, but if that isn't the case there is no way anyone can justify this as being a good buy.

They are less efficient, and out of the 10 I have seen in stores as displays, only two of them are still working. That doesn't say much about longevity or quality.

Now if they included a specially designed power cord made by Monster Cable, and a little speaker made by Bose that would amplify music from my iPod before sending it into the room then I might buy one!!!!

These fans are a complete scam.

Their air moving capacity is miniscule, while the noise they produce is legendary.

Playing around with the store displays is revealing. They'll generally put streamers on the outside ring to show the air movement, which is fine. But ALL the air movement is around the edges - there's virtually nothing in the center. And if you stand 3 feet away with the thing on high, you feel virtually nothing. Compare that to a $20 box fan - well, there's no comparison. The box fan moves air. Owning this thing merely proves that you're an air head.

A total waste of money.

It's just a fan, like one for $25 at Walmart. It does not have blades is just a gimmick. No differnt air flow that a cheap fan. If you want to waste your $, go ahead.

This fan is 10x as noisy, and costs 10x as much, as a simple fan @ Wal-Mart that moves 10x as much air.

This is really the only advantage of this fan. I got one for my wife after she had an operation in the summer. She could feel the buffeting from a normal fan and didn't like it. But she loved the airflow from the Dyson. It did make a difference to her, and it's still the fan she prefers using. But they're a bit overpriced IMO.

I got to demo one of these at a Bed, Bath and Beyond. You can only feel the breeze about 4-5 feet out, a tower fan is many times better and many times cheaper. and we verified this by throwing confetti into the fans---much better "carry" with anything but the Dyson. Maybe a deal for $15, not worth much more.
Cool look, though.

I've experienced the entire Dyson fan line up on several occasions. THE ONLY ADVANTAGE THESE HAVE IS NO MOVING BLADES. If you have small children, that's great. For the rest of the world, they do nothing better than a regular $20 Walmart fan. No quieter. No more air. No air that feels any different.

A bladed 40 watt fan would get you 1800 CFM. With Dyson you get to have 900 CFM for 40 watts. This is the Fan equivalent of driving a 7 liter turbo pick up truck that has the torque of a Honda Civic. At first I was wowed by the design too but discovered that there is nothing innovative about it other than that they found the most inefficient way to blow air. The next step is to make a 3 inch diameter version that multiplies the air by 24 times thereby making it 450CFM instead of 900. In fact I invented the next "innovative" fan. So much more innovative than the Dyson. It will be 50,000 watts and blow air out of a pinhole thereby multiplying the air by 1,000 times and get you 50 CFM of air output. I'll call it the Exponentializer. You will love it. Dyson won't stand a chance.
