AMD doesn't compare to INTEL, if you have an INTEL running at 2.2 GHz , it takes an AMD running at 3.0GHz to compare, AMD is a cheaper cpu that does not perform as specified, they are reliable but they don't compare to an INTEL, do your research!!!! I've built both and an avid overclocker and gamer would only recommend AMD to a low budget buyer, if you can afford it go INTEL.

Finman wrote:I'm a real Acer laptop fan. I've owned about six of them since about 1995. My first one cost me $2500 but I needed it for my business and it served me well for about 7 years. None of them ever died and the only reason I had to retire them was obsolecense. My oldest one, an Athlon 64 1500 is still perking along.

I now usually use my Aspire One netbook. It runs Windows 7 Professional and Office 2010 professional just great. But... It has a small 10" screen and I do need a newer larger-sceen laptop.

This is a great deal. I just bought it.

I considered it for my daughter for her first laptop for college, but, with such a small video chipset and lack of power due to the AMD cpu, this laptop will have horrible graphics and will suffer with any video playback, which the younger generation does plenty of. Graphics will be horrible.

CRAPPP!!!!!!
If you want a cheap laptop, well you got one.
You can spend $50 more and get it brand new, and more storage and better video chip.
Tiger direct has it.

You clearly haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about. Do yourself and the world a favor, do not comment publicly on computers ever again.

I love how the most ill-informed posts always include a "do the research!!!1" comment. Maybe if YOU did the research, you could avoid embarrassing yourself.

Agreed. When I posted the PC Magazine review, I knew that wasn't the only survey, nor do I have anything against Acer (I haven't bought anything from them yet). I appreciated the comments after mine, and good respectable dialogue benefits us all.

Notebooks/computers in general and HDTV's seem to generate the most heat in debate, but you take a chance with any brand. I'm trying to remember if other woot products generate heat like this (not necessarily sheer volume, like Ooma).

$449+ $100 old laptop trade in credit.
quad core A6(fusion processor)
6gigs ram
640gig (5400rpm -_-) HDD
hdmi
17.3inches

They marked it down by $6 to disqualify the $100 card. I'm betting they would not honor it.
I think your post is a better deal still.

Oh so very true on this one!

My 14 month old Toshiba died on me a few weeks ago. The same Toshiba that I had to take in to a local store to be repaired because the power plug on the computer pushed in. Toshiba said it was from repeated plugging and unplugging, on a laptop, funny thing! They wanted $425 up front to fix it.

I'm on Acer right now and it's great, bought this one for the teenager!

The chip set is "Fully" BluRay rated. Got mine already plays video great. It's clearly not a gamer's rig.

I got mine worked great for 2 days now will not fire up. I see the power light and fan starts but no hard drive activity and nothing showing on monitor. Called Seneca the seller and they said take battery out unplug and hold power button for 15 sec. then plug in. This didn't work for me and now they are sending me info to ship back for replacement. Senecadata cust support number is 1-866-243-1450 hope this helps if you have issues.

My Acer came in on Tuesday and I can honestly say that I am very impressed! This thing is a monster laptop! I did my usual prep by disabling some visual features to speed it up...not that it needed it ...just as a precaution. I did up the RAM to 8GB just because it was really cheap to get it. This machine boots up fast, runs fast & quiet and the screen is really nice! The keys feel great and the overall look is pretty slick. Paying under $400 is a steal for this laptop!

Most computer techs will tell you a hardware failure is just an upgrade opportunity.

Sorry to hear about your laptop. Your warranty is through Acer (as you can see on the blog here.). You should have some contact info from your original package or look on their website.
