Okay, so nobody's posting comments, and apparently nobody's buying any of these. I woke up for this, why?

And the little stand with the mini-B USB connector is the most useless thing I ever saw. Just use a cable, why does it have to stand vertically, so the data doesn't get wrinkled?

How does 750GB measure up for this type of thing, in general?

xninjagrrl

quality posts: 7 Private Messages xninjagrrl

Why is this so expensive? I always see 1tb portable Elements for like 60 bucks shipped. Woot needs to bring back that Tron mouse and mousepad combo for 40 bucks.

Pros: The pills were there.
Cons: So was the tank.

Well mines not click free.. but I did just buy a western digital 1.5 tb external drive yesterday at target for 89.99. I think you can just get software for auto backup.

I have either been up way too long, or this question makes no sense at all.

Amazon routinely has these on sale for 60 bucks. I lucked out and got one with a Black drive.

Pros: The pills were there.
Cons: So was the tank.

I think he means price-wise. I would say 90 for 750gb of storage is a ripoff. Unless this drive offers some special features I am unaware of.

Cons: So was the tank.

They could have mad the exterior of this a really cool chicken and then they could claim it was Cluck free.

I'd be more inclined to buy the chicken version.

In terms of $/GB it's definitely overpriced. At least we can take heart in the fact that their earnings might be going into providing us good Bountiful Overflowing Cornucopia#39;s, right?

Even your WD probably came with some "click free" software...when I worked for the Geek Squad, people would pay us to set up random externals...most of them come with some sort of auto back up that activates every time you plug it in. I personally don't go for that sort of thing...but...to each his own...

the one on Amazon has no cradle and I did not even bother to look at ebay. I hear the software is the best part specially for the non techie. One for mom

Depends. Are you planning on using this for incremental backups or just periodic ones? How big is the drive you're planning on backing up?

My notebook uses a 500 GB internal drive, and I use a 600(?) GB drive for incremental backups. It's been more than adequate for me. If you're planning on backing up a lot more data, you might want to consider a 1 TB drive, which you can find for the same price as woot wants for this one

All in all, not a wonderful deal, but not a horrible one either.

Because of the flooding in Thailand harddrive prices have jumped quite a bit. Some places have started limiting the number of drives that can be purchased.

I bought one. I do shop on woot for savings, so I am disappointed in the price - or why even offer it?

But it reminded me I need a backup....so in the long-run it will help me avoid losing a lot of data.

Woot offers great deals..is the business model I would like to see return.

Clearly, because people like you will buy it anyway, despite the fact that you are disappointed in the price :-)

I'm grabbing one because the stand is so cute (and because I don't want my data wrinkled... Ironing all those 0s and 1s is a PITA).
