Well, imagine my surprise when my Big ol' Cornucopia, scheduled for delivery first 11/22, then 11/21, appeared upon my doorstep this morning! Truly, that stands as a Smartpost record.

In my excitement, I did not further verify the dimensions and weight, mostly because I only saw it as we were leaving the house to run errands, but the cr@ppy c0ntents c0nsisted of:

1 non-Woot branded cardboard shipping box/chinchilla house, currently under renovations for said chinchillas.

3 bags nutritious Texas Air, retained for nefarious purposes beknownst only to me.

1 Dream Cheeky USB guard dog, future role unknown.

1 bright orange reusable shopping bag with large colourful flower, snatched by my wife.

1 "Enemy" Spitball Dartpad soon to be office decoration.

1 smiley face en-caped screaming and flying Woot! monkey, to be hidden in a nook and/or cranny of the townhouse we're going to be selling, with its brother the white monkey from woot-offs past. Because, I mean, why not? :D

1 Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 400 Studio series wireless mouse (duh), new in box and currently in use at this very computer.

0 special letters. Le sigh.

Thanks, Woot! great stuff!

Last Bountiful Overflowing Cornucopia I'm ever buying from Woot. Here's the letter I sent their customer service:

I know I'm not supposed to complain about the crap in my Big ol' Cornucopia... but the next time you ship something that is in an aerosol spray can... have a care. I got a can of Nitro Strike Fire Fighting foam... that was rattling around loose WITHOUT A TOP in my Bountiful Overflowing Cornucopia No top. No lid. No lid meant nothing to keep it from accidentally discharging in the box. Can I say it again...loose...no lid. How about again...no lid. But most of all... NO LID. What if that stuff had discharged as I was opening the box... or God forbid... as my mail carrier was handling it. I LIKE my mail carrier. A lot. She's a nice lady who does not need to get covered in fire dormantant. I'm also a big fan of things like my and my family's ability to see. What were you thinking? What was the person in your shipping department thinking?

THe Bountiful Overflowing Cornucopia are supposed to be fun. I spend eight dollars for the pleasure of opening up a box of weird and mostly useless stuff. Cheap thrills. I don't mind getting crap... but I'm not really up for getting a box of something dangerous. I'm furious. Absolutely furious.

Aw, shucks! Thanks!

Now I just have to break it to my wife that I spent $8 on another relatively useless Bas-relief Oligarch Catcher. (And that, in addition to live-tweeting updates -- which I did when our son was born, that I also I posted updates to woot, too.)

Maybe I'll wait 'til she fills the percocet prescription...

I'd post the (Bountiful Overflowing Cornucopia) unboxing video, but I'm so tired/loopy that I actually drove home from the hospital without headlights (I've gotten used to my new car's automatic headlights, which my wife's 4Runner doesn't have -- hey, Toyota, why do you make the dash light up when the headlights aren't on?)

My wife swears I'm keeping Woot! in business all by myself. I think she may be onto something.

It came yesterday, but I was too busy to post.

1- twisted t'shirt with a garden gnome roasting a pink flamingo. This went to my sister who is the only size small I know who would think this was hilarious.

1- small reusable bag

1- screaming monkey with smileyface cape. The cats already hate me.

All in all, pretty fun.

Question: Has anyone got this thing to work? I installed the software, and apparently it doesn't like Win7 that much. I also think that the speaker must not work, as i can't get it to make a sound. Or does it not have a speaker and instead use the PC speaker? Hmm... must... figure... this... out...

No, it's not fond of Win 7. Yes it uses your computer's speakers, the dog has no voice of his own.

Here's the process I used to get him to kind of work:
Step 1: Install CD.
Step 2: Connect Doggie to computer
Step 3: Wait forever for the drivers to link up.
Step 4: Disconnect Doggie
Step 5: Reboot Computer
Step 6: Once computer has fully rebooted, re-connect Doggie.
Step 7: Manually launch the software for said Doggie.
Step 8: Reconnect Doggie. Doggie should start nodding.
Step 9: Mess with obscure settings endlessly until something finally seems to work.

The dog has a range of about 3 feet and uses your computer's speakers to bark.

By default, he only growls. You must keep his little dog house on the screen in order for him to work.

The dog has been discontinued by Dream Cheeky and has been purged from their system. Maybe someone out there can hack him to make him actually work?

Seriously? You mean the press to spray, let go to stop variety? That's made of mostly compressed nitrogen and water? And is "safe to breathe, touch and swallow, and is 100% biodegradable"?

I mean, your concern for the safety of your family and post(wo)man is admirable and all, but I think you're over-reading the potential danger just a smidge. Leaving aside the amazing confluence of events that would result in the can expelling its total contents and the incredibly minute statistical chance thereof, I think the first thing I would have done upon discovering the foam is sprayed my cat. And I love my cat.
