Been waiting for these to come back up!! I own one already in our apartment which is programmed with my entire home theater system and is saved on both my iPod and iPad. I love using it on my iPad just for the fact that I have a jumbo remote to play with haha.

Looks like mostly positive reviews on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/L5-Universal-Remote-Control-iPhone/product-reviews/B003B22U8Y/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

Selling for $43.99, so it seems like a good deal for those with an iproduct.

You need the actual remote in order to train this thingy. Basically it record IR waveform for each button you train and plays it back when you tab that button.

I bought one of these about a year ago off woot for the same price. I have found it very useful! I've made custom remotes for different rooms of my house that include a mash up of remote devices on each. I was also able to download the xbox360 remote from the in-app cloud share, where there are user made remotes for most popular models. If it is controlled by IR, this thing can learn to control it from your existing controllers... Just pick a virtual button shape/size/color etc and then point the controller at your iPhone port and push that button to train it. Works like a champ, has replaced a table full of remotes my only complaint is that the bumper/cases must be removed to plug it in. Nbd 4 me but may turn off some.

Was hoping it'd be back, yaay! Bought one the first time and it's great. They finally made the program ipad compatible, I believe. Before it'd just make the remote 2x the size to fit the screen.

To program it you can point your current remote at it and you're done. Love to be able to customize the remote interface.

the L5 app has a ton of bad reviews because people are upset that you need to buy the dongle in order to use the app, so pay no attention to the bad reviews

Will this work for two different room setups? For example, can I go from my living room setup to my bedroom setup and have it work for both? Could be a nice accessory if it did.

The Amazon crowd seems to love it at $59>$43

http://www.amazon.com/L5-Universal-Remote-Control-iPhone/dp/B003B22U8Y

76 reviews - 56 are five star, 11 are four stars, 7 are three star and a single two star and a single one star... (I guess "greezyg" is the one star)

Thanks for the heads-up! Darn it, where is my remote? You just don't realize how much you need the remote until you lose it! :-)

I bought this previously on Woot! I like it because you can download all of the "default" remotes for all of your current devices with the same button layout as the physical remotes. These defaults are pre-programmed, so they work without any tweaking. I then created a 'custom' remote with all of the most used buttons for all of my devices on one screen. For $20, I think it's worth it.

This is cool. I remember being in one of my college sports bars in Chicago about 15 years ago, and me and another guy had to work hard to get the master remote from the bartender without being noticed. Of course we set all the TV's to "mature content" channels. Why the bar subscribed, I never asked. This thing would make it sooooooo much easier and less traceable.

IR is so easy to implement, I don't understand why Apple hasn't added IR into the iPhone/iPad yet.

Yes, with a simple swipe left or right.

Yes. Firstly the pages are large enough to where you can fit many many MANY buttons on one page and can scroll down if need be. Secondly if you swipe to the side it'll go onto the next page, which can be your next room setup or the same room but with a different setup (say for watching movies or gaming or your cohabitant).

Do they have a "default" setting for Proscan LCD TV? Is there a list somewhere? Thanks!

Yes. You can set up a number of different rooms. I don't know if it's a finite number, but it's not a small one. I have setups for my living room entertainment center, the TV/DVD player at work, the Logitech speaker in the kitchen, and an Apple Remote for the computer.

One big plus is that you can create a remote layout and save it to their "cloud," then download it to another device, so if you have multiple IOS devices you can load the same layouts on all of them.

“Huh. That’s kind of superfluous, isn’t it?”

This sentence sums up this woot perfectly.
I just cut out the middle-man and flushed $25 directly down the toilet instead.:-p

Not if the remote has already been programmed by someone else and uploaded into the L5 database. There are hundreds of device remotes already programmed and all you have to do is search for "your device" and download it.

Oddly enough a nice touchscreen remote would cost more than a used iPod touch and this thing... so if you already have an older iPhone or iPod touch laying around which you aren't using this might be the way to go.

Plus... how awesome is it to be able to custom design your button layouts? Too bad it won't do Bluetooth to work with the PS3, but we can't have everything I suppose.

The website is here: http://www.l5remote.com/

You can search the L5 database from the App itself which is available from the App Store. I don't remember if you can search the database without the L5 connected...I'm currently at work so I can't check for you.

**EDIT**

I just checked the L5 Forum Here and you can search the database from the App without the L5 connected (so you can play with it while waiting for the module to show up). The App will index up to 1000 different remotes according to This Post

Because it's an ancient standard that's slow, flaky, and depends on line of sight, and would be a waste of space and battery on a device that already has WiFi and Bluetooth.

Also because Apple HATES giving people useful features. Maybe the ipad5 will have an SD slot!

I misplaced the remote to my digital converter box some time ago, and have not been able to watch any TV since (not that I really watch that much anyway). Other universal remotes I've tried don't seem compatible with the box. Any chance this will work with it?

I got this in a previous Woot, after months of being almost but not quite tempted enough to get it at the $50 list price. It's phenomenally versatile; you can mix and match buttons from different devices on the same screen. There are also "drawers" that slide out when you press a button. The app is free, so you can noodle around with designing a remote before buying the hardware.

L5 has another app, FreezeFrame, that uses the dongle as a camera remote. I have an old first-gen iPhone that I use as an iPod Touch (no cell service); I can set up my SLR, set that in front of it, and shoot time lapses. The only feature I'd like to see added is a mini or micro USB so that your device can be connected to power while the dongle is connected.

Do you know if that's the case for the new bumpers with the larger open area around the dock connector port?

Anyone know if this fits the iphone4 with a defender Otterbox? I've read the otterbox for the 3gs won't fit, but the one for the 4 seems a little more spacious around the port...
