Anyone else have this issue? Any ideas? Any way to tell if it is the hard drive or the power adaptor?

Thanks

That is the same (and correct) power adapter that I have. What percentage of charge does your battery show? I have mine setup so that the battery doesn't charge until it gets below 80 percent. Perhaps yours is set that way too. That makes the battery last a lot longer and is the recommended setting if you keep it plugged in most of the time.

How do you set it so that it doesn't charge the battery until it drops below 80%. Couldn't find the option and still getting used to where all the options are in this version of windows

This is atrocious. The laptop keeps shutting down entirely at random and I am now really angry about this.

Do I contact Samsung for repairs, or the refurb company that someone posted earlier? And what are the chances of a refund from Woot if I can't get this infernal thing repaired?

Run the BatteryLifeExtender program. An easy way to find it is to go to the Start menu and type battery. It will be the only program listed.

Got mine back from the refurb center today, they replaced the motherboard. Ran WEI and got similar results as those posted earlier. Ran Sandra and also received positive results. No overheating this time and no shut downs. Blue ray playback started off choppy, but smoothed out. The movie I was watching stopped about 3/4 of the way through. Don't have another BLue ray here to test, may be the disc. The tech at the refurb center said he had to turn off hyperthreading to get the best performance. I installed new memory (8gb) when I got home and this seemed to resolve the issue, hyperthreading works fine now. Overall, pretty pleased with the purchase now that it is repaired. Watched all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and didn't see anything close to this deal.

So if I have to contact some company to get this infernal thing fixed, am I better off going to the refurb company (Intellisol, wasn't it?) rather than Samsung? So far what I've read is Samsung has crap customer service with 3rd party-sold product, and so I want to make sure I go the right way about it before having to give up this thing.

Also, did it cost you anything to get it fixed? Sort of on a tight budget here.

ps. I want to love this laptop so hard. When it works, it's like angels sing, for it does what I ask it to like a dream. When it dies, it makes me want to weep with frustration and gnash my teeth, and dang it I don't need dentist bills lumped in with this too.

When did you send it in? I sent mine in on Nov 16 and I'm still waiting. I emailed the repair place on Monday and they said they were waiting on parts from Samsung. Samsung said it would be around 10 days. Well it will be going on a month shortly. This is pretty disappointing.

You can call Samsung, but as soon as they hear it's a refurb they'll give you the number I posted earlier for Intellisol. The only cost for you will be shipping it to them.

Wow, that is a long time. Intellisol is local for me so I dropped it off. They called me the first time 2 days later saying they had replaced the fan and everything was good. I did my own checks when I got there and realized everything was not good. They agreed and kept it another 9 days to replace the motherboard. Now it is the laptop I paid for. Very happy.

BTW, they said they get a parts shipment from Samsung once every week.

Thank you so much for that. I'll just call them directly and see what they say. I'm in Buffalo so hopefully shipping won't be too terrible. Glad I kept the box!

I called Samsung and they emailed me a shipping slip. I didn't have to pay the shipping cost to send it in.

Huh! So I should call Samsung, and they'll send me a slip to ship to Intellisol?

Seems like a dumb question, but I hate being without my computer and the faster I can get this done, the better.

Might be worth a shot, being local shipping didn't even enter into my conversations.

My Fn + down/Up arrow ( brightness control) has stopped working and the laptop is stuck at full brightness. no option anywhere at all to reduce the brightness.

Fn + left arrow (volume etc) are all working fine. Easy display manager has been reinstalled , display drivers reinstalled, BIOS updated in an attempt to fix but no luck at all.

I have mint linux installed in a partition and it works just fine there.

Does any one know how to fix this issue in windows7? A quick internet search reveals many people with Samsung laptops have the same problem.

Also I found windows update and Samsung updates are both broken. They does not update any patches at all.

Thanks

Shut down 5 times in 15 minutes. On the off chance I could get some help from Samsung, I called them and got a pleasant fellow named David who, when I told him what the issue was, went silent and said, "Refurb or nothing, that's ridiculous!" (And yeah, he just gave me the Intellisol number posted earlier in the thread.)

Piece of junk is going to Intellisol tomorrow if I can swing it.

edit: Then again, if it's taking a month+ to get the dang thing fixed...

I emailed Intelisol again today. They are still waiting on a motherboard from Samsung. They said to check back on Thursday for updates. It will be month on Friday since I sent it in.

I would strongly suggest trying to get a refund from woot! before getting it fix.

I am actually very satisfied with my purchase. laptop is nice no doubt. minor problems are because Samsung is inexperienced in Laptops so minor bugs in software/drivers. Performance is good though.

Yeah. I'm RMA'ing this to woot! and just going to hope the refund is faster than the refurb. I need a computer, be it getting help building it off newegg or buy locally.

I guess this is just the perfect example of 'caveat emptor', and 'if it's too good to be true, it is'.

Overall, very satisfied so far. However...

I added the Adata XPG Series 8gb kit (model AXDS1600GC4G9-2), and started up a quick MemTest+ scan. In the first pass, if found a single error is Test #4, where one single bit was read incorrectly. I then tested each chip individually in the bottom slot, 3+ passes, no errors. I then installed them in the opposite order from previously (swapped bottom & top stick), and ran overnight. 6+ passes, no errors. Next night, ran again, 6+ passes, no errors. Weird. I'm gonna just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Anyone else get any weird results from MemTest+ ?

It is unfortunate that just because of display brightness issues(mentioned earlier), i will have to reinstall my windows again. Called samsung, they gave me ticket on friday and promised that i will get a call but no luck at all.

nothing i do fixes the problem.

I emailed Intelisol again. The still have not received the parts from Samsung. This is getting ridiculous.

Ok, I have tweaked it to its completion. As I mentioned on page 8 I was thinking about getting an SSD for it. Well I did and I chose a 256gig by ADATA who is the same maker of the ram I replaced the 6 gigs with..

SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211530
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211568

Intel's updated drivers from those that are on Samsungs site. And a flashed BIOS to the newer version available. Here is what I have ended up with:

My desktop went higher than my critics on page 8 and you gotta love the maxed out hard drive score now. Booting into 7 ultimate now is about 11 seconds for everything to load to the desktop from a cold start and the pointer to lose it new style hourglass (circle thingy). It is pretty amaizing how fast this thing is now from how I unpacked it. That 750 gig drive makes a nice external usb powered storage for my laptop bag too

That is ridiculous. I'm glad I RMA'd it back to Woot (delivery confirmed Dec 19th, yay USPS). I had my brother-in-law build me a really great computer for just a little above the price I paid for the defective laptop, and the extra he's just making my Christmas gift.

Plus I know I can get repairs done easily, since he knows what he's doing.

Hope you get it sorted soon, Justinbart.

Intelisol is still unable to repair it. Woot gave me an RMA number and it is getting returned. What a disaster but I'm thankful that Woot is giving me a refund. Thanks!

Samsung has left a bitter taste in my mouth and I'm sure it will affect future purchases. They refused to resolve the situation in any other way like sending me another refurbished laptop. Customer service was very poor.

Hello all.

Firstly, thank you for your helpful comments and tips. I really made use of them.

Now a small question, has anyone successfully removed the stickers from below the keyboard?
If so, how? The laptop would look so much better without them.

Thanks for your help.

SAMSUNG -- WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! Ordered on the 14th of November. It has not worked since I received it! Samsung service made me ship it back at MY expense to get fixed with a crazy static problem. (I go from my desk to the door and back, touch the case, and it shuts down. Every time! Not how notebooks are supposed to work!)

Got it back from Samsung yesterday -- and they did nothing to the computer. NOTHING. Not even a piece of paper in the box saying, "your computer has been serviced and sorry for the problem."

Now I call and they have no record of my calls or of the repairs. What?

We were going to buy more of these for others in our office. Stuff happens and it's not a perfect world and I get that -- but then you need fix the problem. Cheerfully. Fast.

An update on the video card issue. I shipped it in, and the refurb company got it back to us within a week. They were pretty friendly on the phone and warned me it may take longer. Luckily they got it back before christmas

Evidently the heatsink/fan was defective or not seatd properly. They replaced it, and it seems fine now.

I'm pretty happy so far. I re-installed windows (too many blue screens during the first week of ownership made for some screwy windows update problems) and have run a few games today. No other problems so far.
I'll put it through the paces later this week.

I had the exact same problem (blue screen when running 3D games). Samsung gave me a run-around of dead-ends and "forgetting" to send me response emails/UPS labels. I sent it in to their repair and 3 weeks later it came back still broken. RMA'ed it straight away back to woot.
The kicker - and the reason I'll never buy another Samsung product - was that I sent it in to repair with references to the chats, ticket numbers, my description of the problem both on paper and on a notepad that popped up when the computer was turned on. Copious documentation. All said "blue screen when 3D games, blah blah know this can be stopped if you disable the NVidia card but THIS IS NOT A FIX!" (duh). When it came back the "repair" they did was to disable the NVidia card both on the control panel and per-application for all the 3D games on the system. Did they think I wouldn't notice that they did the very band-aid I told them NOT to do?

So now I'm $16 out for S&H, but a wealth wiser for avoiding Samsung products in the future.

Not one Laptop ever had a good touch pad. They stick and jump and it's a bad idea!
