Sorry man. It's been about twenty years since I've messed with a turntable. If you can't use RCA jacks then I guess not. Here's a link to an article on how to do it. Crutchfield's site specifically states that it does not have a phono input and that you'll need a phono preamp.

If I read the manual correctly, as long as each component in the chain accepts audio over HDMI, the receiver will play that audio. It supports, but doesn't require, the separate passthrough cable.

Airplay only plays video through apple tv.

In for one. This will replace our aging VSX-D409 (about 8 years old now), and act as my first real balls-out investment in our dedicated home theater.

Very true. It's being called, per thehometheaterguys.com review, a great deal at $550. Chopping almost 50% off the price makes things interesting.

This is a primo receiver, so best to go with a high-sensitivity set. Woot was selling the Pioneer BS41 bookshelf pair for $99 about a month back, so I would go with those. You may or may not be able to locate them for that price, but I've got a set running in my HT right now, and they're phenomenal.

yes, you'll need a dedicated phono amp to use a turntable. they're not expensive for basic ones...a quality budget one will be less than $100, though good ones are usually a bit more. i don't think built-in phono preamps are necessary on these receivers b/c not many people use turntables anymore...and those who do usually have their own dedicated phono amps anyway.

I've got a week to go before my vintage SX-980 is back from the shop, good as new. Total price: $150.00 I had no ideas Pioneer still made recievers, so at a minimum, I learned something tofday - for free! Yippee!

Absolutely fantastic price (compared to Best Buy - where I bought and returned mine) but these things are HUGE and the open grate on the top freaked me out. How hot do these things run?!?! This is less than HALF priced!!! If you get the one I returned -it was never even hooked up. It was only removed from the box and went back in after a day. I was overwhelmed by all those things in the back and number of wires.

Been looking at this at the local store for the last couple months. Woot! has a much better deal than the store.

these receivers with power amps integrated have to run hot. if they're running in Class A, they WILL get hot and are supposed to be hot. that's why you need good circulation, and that's why you have the grates on top. nothing to be afraid of, though...

Just like my Sony Blue Ray player that does Netflix, etc., but only AFTER you buy the $89 dongle. And other USB WiFi dongles don't work. It's the American way, son!

I have one and love it, even if at times the remote app gets weird. I have a turntable hooked up to it after buying a $50 audio-technica amp and it works great! Great price for a great product!

I have this same receiver for my home theater setup. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to minimize cables going to my projector and this upscales practically everything to HDMI so I only need one cable! With 5 HDMI inputs, it allowed me to connect: Blu Ray, Xbox 360, Satellite tv, a custom built pc, and I still have room to expand with future devices. This also powers my 5.1 in wall surround sound setup. It has plenty of power for my speakers and sub. It takes a couple of seconds for the receiver to output both the audio and video to the projector though. I assume it's the receiver, but it could be my projector that's slow. All in all, this had all the features I wanted to be able to watch movies and other media on my 120" motorized screen.

Ok, everyone's clear this only plays audio from AirPlay - what about all those internet connected DVD players and TVs, can those get video from PC connection or only the web services?

I have two of these that I picked up from Costco for a bit more ($399) and I love them. At first I used one just to have 7.1 surround sound (an upgrade from my 5.1 system) in my home theater. But I find myself appreciating it more for what Airplay can do. When I go to stream a song it'll automatically turn on the receiver, and with the iPhone app I can either turn it off when I'm done or let the power saving feature turn it off 15 minutes later. It knocks the socks off of my old Yamaha 5.1 that it replaced. In both locations I feel like I also upgraded the speakers with the difference in sound quality.

Like Airplay in iTunes, you can also stream using DLNA from other apps like Media Player.

This receiver appears to disobey the laws of thermodynamics: Total output power is rated at 7 x 90 = 630W, yet input power is only 550W.

Realistically speaking, you're not going to get 90W x 7 out of this thing (not that it really matters; most mass-market speakers will work fine with it. If you have higher-end speakers you're probably not considering this anyway).

Not at all, the audio capabilities are exceptional for a receiver for non apple users. I don't even have mine hooked up tot he network yet and use none of the pioneer/iOS apps and can do everything I need to with the remote. Also the MCACC is awesome for setting up the audio perfectly. Anyone who says what you said is clearly uneducated about these products.

Anyone who is serious about doing a low to mid level 7.1 home audio setup would be pleased with this IMO.

I was fighting between this and a Onkyo NR-609R, I ended up going with the Onkyo specifically because the accessories for Pioneer are -expensive-

I believe the wireless receivers are around $89 dollars, but the Onkyo's was only $25. Albeit I know a higher model would have wireless built in..

I think I'll still hold out for the Elite. But the price does make it tempting.....

Pioneer makes a larger speaker in the same range as the bookshelf speakers sold here. They are model SP-SF51-LR. The MSRP is $199,00 a pair--Best Buy has them for $204.98!? How they are able to keep that name is beyond me--At any rate, the reviews on them are quite good.

I read an earlier post that said the WIFI dongle costs $150,00. Wouldn't an Apple TV for $99.00 be a better option? Especially if you have to hard wire this into a network. I don't have an Ethernet connection anywhere near my audio equipment.

I ran a 100 ft ethernet molded cable to my unit and then put a 8x1 switch in from that router port.....(the absolute best way to go in the long run)

Have Direct TV, Sony DVD, Denon Reciever, Denon IPOD Dock, Boxee, and Samsung LED connected....

With the reciever your ethernet port then allows you to have every PC in your house be connected thru Win 7 as a media server....

The IPOD can be used for both music and video playback but also as a wireless remote for any unit that has an app....(all of the above units I have ....have one except for the Boxee which has that funky RF browser remote for surfing the internet for content)

The only thing I want to add down the road is a NAS storage unit because with all the "media" you finally attain.....You really need to get into that "multi-terrabyte arena"
(even converting Blu-rays to Windows Media A/V files makes every HD movie about 6 gig at the best resolutions)

If this unit is half as "useful" as the Denon....This is a pretty darn good deal....The lowest end Denon with this feature set is double the price.....

I don't know how the Amazon/Woot relationship plays into this, but you could run into headaches if you need warranty service and it was purchased through Woot.
