It's like a Roomba and a Scuba + a Swiffer!

Ok, as someone who will probably be in the market for a Roomba soon, how does this one match up? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

The $1000 question ... how well does it handle cats compared to the Roomba?

... and does that mean we'll need a different Woot shirt now?

Not going to get one, I am a Roomba man. Glad they have some competition now though, should get the quality up and the prices down.

For this price does it pick the big stuff up off the floor, fold it up, and clean under it? If so I'd really consider this!

It is better at avoiding tangles with cords and doesn't miss areas that Roombas do with their circular patterning. On the negative side, I've heard there are quality control issues.

FRAK! Roomba has been taken over by a cylon! They should have just added the red light and all BSG fans would be all over this thing. Could this be the beginning of cylon rule?

In any case, are there any comparisons to roomba? I may be in the market for a new vacuum and this could be the one. THE ONE!

SO SAY WE ALL.

New holiday party game: 12 days of Woot Xmas aka Woot Roulette!
A group of 12 participants, each gets randomly paired with another person in the group. Each person rolls dice. The number that comes up is the day they purchase whatever is on Woot for their partner. Example, A and B are partners. A rolls 2. In two days person A buys whatever shows up on Woot for B. B rolls 6. In six days B buys whatever shows up on Woot for A. Once a number is rolled on the dice it is not used again, so all 12 numbers will be used. Track the fun on twitter/facebook! Someone may get a Leakfrog and their partner a 55" TV! What an adventure!

I have owned both a Roomba and the Neato vacuums. I prefer the Neato far more than the Roomba. First, It's intelligent. It maps the room using a scanner that let's it see where furniture and other obstacle are; it doesn't kepp baniging into my furniture as it "feels" its way around. Second, it will do my whole house, recharging itself as needed. It's just a better vaccum than the Roomba...goodbye Romba, hello Neato. I paid $400 for mine over a year ago and I would buy it again over a Roomba.

I've owned a Roomba 540 for several years now. It gets the job done just fine on my hardwood floors. I've only had to buy a new battery for it after a year, but it was only about $30 on eBay. In my case, I can't justify buying another robot vacuum cause one is 'better'. Still, of the research I have done in the past, A LOT of people really like the Neato over the Roomba and if I didn't own a robot vacuum already, I'd probably go with the Neato myself if the price was right. Considering you can get a Roomba for about half the price as this Woot!, the decision would be much harder. I think Botjunkie's Summary of the Roomba vs. Neato comparison is a good one.

Botjunkie.com Summary:

  • Both robots clean hardwood equally well, about as well as a traditional upright vacuum.
  • The Roomba cleans carpet noticeably better than the XV-11, and is significantly better at picking up pet hair. Neither robot is as good at these tasks as a traditional upright vacuum.
  • The Roomba requires significantly more maintenance than the XV-11, especially if it picks up hair of any kind.
  • The XV-11 cleans rooms about four times as fast as the Roomba.
  • The XV-11 is significantly better at cleaning multiple rooms than the Roomba.
  • The XV-11 seems louder than the Roomba.
  • The fact that the Roomba uses cleaning behaviors derived from foraging insects is very cool.
  • The fact that the XV-11 uses a laser to map rooms is very cool.

Assuming 2 dice there's only 11 possible numbers...

Gizmodo did a comparison of sorts. They used XV-12 instead of XV-11, but I figure the models are close enough.

You're right! No way to get a 1! OK use a 12 sided die- they're readily available and used in some geek games.

I love clean floors just as much as the next guy, but I don't see how this robotic vacuum could be worth $300..

Someone please, enlighten me. What makes this piece of technology so special?
