This is an amazing price, even for a 16 GB.

Granted, the recent black friday Transformer for $249 was really awesome, but that's over now so let's get back to reality where THIS is amazing in the here and now m'kay?

Good price. Not blow you away great, but good.

Where is the Woot-off, however?

Would I need a cell-phone plan to use this or could it be used similarly to an iPod Touch?

I really do have far too many children.

If I finally get one these new fangled Tablets, which would I use less: My smart phone? or my Netbook?

Or should I even bother in the first place?

Like an iPod Touch. This is WiFi only, it has no cellular radio in it, so you couldn't use it with a data plan even if you wanted to.

Just wanted to drop a line and say that I use this in class to take notes sometimes with the external keyboard and it works great!

There are some great/free word processing apps that make the Galaxy Tab a very useful way to organize notes and word documents!

It's probably for the best that I lost my debit card. Otherwise I'd be a broke guy with a lot of touchscreen real estate.

Can you get a memory card for this thing? What's better, this or the Kindle Fire for $200?

cindihoward

quality posts: 42 Private Messages cindihoward

I was at the AT&T Store a few hours ago and the best they could do for me was $479 and a free Galaxy II Rocket Phone and $50 off accessories. But I had to buy a data plan for the tablet for at least a month and upgrade my data plan. This is much less complicated.

Picked one of these up on Black Friday from CompUSA/Tiger Direct. Mine was new, included keyboard dock, case, and a $25 gift card for $500.

I like it OK so far. It's speedy in terms of app launch, but the WiFi antenna isn't the strongest - not putrid but not great. Parking the tablet next to a Samsung netbook, and the netbook's antenna gets consistently, noticeably better throughput.

Of ... pretty important ... note is that immediately upon charging it up and starting it, you can upgrade the firmware, and the OS to 3.2. Once you've done that, you get access to wireless printing and media servers. Before doing the upgrade, you don't.

If you have a Droid phone and were looking for a Tablet, this is the one to get. You can tether the Tab to your phone and get online anywhere. Plus, any apps on your phone can be easily and simply downloaded to your Tab, no extra charge. The price is great on this, it's a wonderful device, and is the lightest in its class. No-brainer in my opinion.

That was my question at the ATT store today. They said for it to work with the phone's hotspot, it needed a plan. It could be small and in addition to any family plan (I already had 5 lines). The rep on Friday told me I needed to keep the plan for two years, but the rep today and manager said I only needed to keep it for a month. If you buy from Woot, you probably don't even need a plan. Once the plan is dropped you use it just like an iPod touch...it can access the internet whenever there is Wi-Fi just not through the hot spot on your phone. This is still strange since I was told my laptop could go online through a 3G connection with the phone.

The lack of an SD Card slot is the big drawback for me.

Darn, I thought 2x Tuesdays were back and in full force! Not sure why a refurb is this expensive...

Still using my touchpad.

I would be all over this if it were two for Tuesday. I'd rather have the ASUS Transformer Prime coming out next week.

Ahhh, the good old Galaxy Tab.

I bought one several months ago at a big store, and I must say I'm really pleased with it.

Although, my suggestion for all of you "hip" people would be to get the White color, as only one store prior to now had the ability to sell that color (the only big electronic store left), and I really regret not getting it in that color.

Otherwise, Amazing Tablet!

Just trimming the thread for those that want to discuss the product. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out there's no woot-off at this point.

Great WOOT... Currently the lightest and thinnest 10 inch-ish tablet available (even lighter and thinner than the iPad 2).

Runs very nicely with Android Honeycomb, and will be one of the first tablets to receive an official Android 4.x.x/Ice Cream Sandwich update, making it comfortably future-proof or such a device.

Over this or a $300 32GB HP Touchpad, I would defiantly pick the dual-booting touchpad.

But wait, it is Tuesday. Must be two for! Anyway, did you know these are now illegal in Australia. Get this while you can!

The Galaxy SII is amazing If this is anything like that in quality, it'll be the bees knees.
It's lighter than the ipad2, and almost exactly the same size!
ipad2 dimensions:
Height: 9.50 inches (241.2 mm)
Width: 7.31 inches (185.7 mm)
Depth: 0.34 inch (8.8 mm)
Weight: 1.33 pounds (601 g)

PS don't mention the non-woot-off!

niceum wrote:Can you get a memory card for this thing? What's better, this or the Kindle Fire for $200?

No...It does not offer storage expansion, nor should one consider this a direct competitor to the (far less featured/capable) Kindle Fire, which lacks cameras, a microphone, GPS, gyroscope, access to the official Android Market, et al.

The Kindle Fire is a rather nice eReader with some media consumption capabilities (via Amazon services), but it's not really a full-fledged tablet device.

niceum wrote:Can you get a memory card for this thing? What's better, this or the Kindle Fire for $200?

Getting a memory card for this thing requires you to first buy an attachment for it that plugs into the dock and reads memory cards. So yes, you can, it's just a bit more painful than you might like (or might get from ASUS or Xoom).

Comparing it to the Kindle Fire is natural and yet silly. The Fire is underpowered, tiny, and port-free - no expansion whatsoever. Its purpose is to play media, ideally media purchased from Amazon's digital stores. The reason for the cheap price seems include the old "give away razors, sell like hell on razor blades" strategy.

I sell this along with several other Android Tablets and the iPad 2. In my opinion, if you are considering an Android tablet, this is by far the best one, and it is not close. And a phenomenal price for it.

I got the 32GB TouchPad during the fire sale and think this is way better. The TouchPad's uncomfortably heavy. The back is crazy slick, so as soon as you start to relax your fingers because they're so tired from its weight, you drop it. You have to choose between the dead-end webOS (which admittedly has a few nice apps) or a hacked version of Android (and honestly, while I know it's well respected and most users love it, I had tons of trouble with CyanogenMod on native Android hardware).

If you got a TouchPad and like it, great -- I haven't picked mine up in weeks and weeks. The TouchPad is no longer available. If you want an objectively better product that's going to be supported, this tablet is it.
