$5.99 + $5 shipping = 11.99

Only 3 dollars less than ThinkGeek's $14.99, they have free shipping offers all the time.

Buy at least 2 sets for it to really be a deal.

So, the glass is not included... fair enough.

Is the whiskey not not included?

I'm in for 3.
These are meant to chill a couple ozs. of whiskey, scotch or whatever in a small glass without watering it down. They will not make your 12 or 16 oz. of soda ice cold.

netstorm wrote: They sound much more graceful on paper than the actual result--and hopefully no one will be around the first time you carefully tip your glass back for a sip of scotch and you get pummeled in the face by a cube of alcohol-soaked marble.

However, you know, if you already know you want whiskey stones then, well, these would do I reckon.

This made me laugh!!!! LOL

I don't think you want your scotch ice cold, just slightly colder than room temp.

I'm in fer two! These are great for putting the chill on a dram of scotch. Maybe a drop or two (no more) of water to open up the scotch. But I don't want it cold...just a little chill, and it won't get watered down from melting ice. Perfect!

At under 10 bucks, this makes a great novelty gift for people you don't want to spend real money on, like by buying them the scotch they actually want.

I've used these stones, and they work pretty well. They bring a cold temperature, though they don't chill your drink as well as ice. I've seen other folks carry these into bars in little pouches and drop them into their neat whiskey.

I enjoy whiskey, and sip it neat from time to time, but I prefer the nose and cool smoothness that come with a few minutes on actual ice.

All that said, nice gift for someone with a bar to tuck away in their freezer.

I like it straight out of the bottle. I also like it chilled. But my favorite is whiskey and water. And all that really matters is that you drink it how you like it. Stones or not, who cares? If you want them, buy them.

By the way, your tap water PROBABLY doesn't have any more chlorine in it than bottled water (the EPA limit is 4 ppm, which I doubt is going to do anything to your whiskey).

Obviously people weren't having these discussions when they were distilling the stuff in the 12th century.

Girlfriend got me a set of these last year because I like my whiskey.

Pros:
- cool novelty
- make sense if you don't like to dilute a fine liquor
- nice if you like slightly chilling a glass of wine without watering it down

Cons:
- don't chill long at all in room temp liquid
- I like melting cubes to thin out my whiskey a tad
- takes forever to re-chill

I ended up throwing them out when I moved a few weeks ago. I'll never use them again.

That said - probably a good stocking stuffer if you're grasping for ideas. More thoughtful than functional however.

To the scotch lovers out there, question. My grandpa enjoys one scotch every day, and he always has it on the rocks. (In this case, on the rocks means on ice). I'm wondering if it's possible he may like the dilution they bring to the scotch, or if that is blasphemy, and he would probably prefer these rocks (this time referring to the actual stones), but just isn't aware fo their existance.

Thanks!

It can be a personal preference and can depend greatly on the quality of the scotch. It is considered blasphemy to ruin good scotch by watering it down, but many people do. On the other hand, watering down bad scotch can make it more palatable...

they last up to two hours (3 stones) not meant to chill a full glass (only meant to chill 2-3 ounces) and it will only chill to about 50 degrees, any cooler and it affects the taste of whiskey even before the ice melts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOjf1GhTe1Q

I tried some of these last night (a different brand, but the same size). To me, the cooling effect was negligible - no more than a few degrees, if that.

That having been said, I'm in for three. They're definitely better in theory than in practice, but for this price they make a great novelty gift for the boozehounds in your life.
