I got a few mega packs of Rayovac batteries (and free tickets to Cars 2!) from Woot a few months back and they've been terrific. Fuji brand though...I think I'll pass.

Actually losing a bit of faith in Woot waiting for the repair of an LCD never used under warranty in repair now for 2 months.

Any suggestions; really getting pissed here.

Should I write woot off now or should I woot off?

"Extra Long Life" usually means carbon-zinc batteries, ie, worthless. Since its technology is not mentioned, I'm sure they're not alkalines.
And "900mAh" is low for AAA batteries, but should be at least 2500mAh for AAs. Since it isn't stated to which size this quoted capacity applies, it's probably to AAs. Ie, worthless.

Note that these are zinc-carbon batteries. They're okay for use in low-drain devices (e.g. remote controls), but don't expect the same longevity as alkaline batteries.

900mAh that is the critical number kids. In my pro-photographer flashes I kick 2700mAh each. Recycle time is much better. But these are probably ok for your everyday usage.

These are worthless. They will last 1/4 or less the time of an alkaline. Don't try to put them into a camera.. may get 2 shots. You can't put a price on junk

Let's see... 2.4 amps per AA battery times 60 is 144 amps if all the batteries were used in parallel.

That might be enough to do some emergency welding and it's a lot cheaper than a car battery. I was thinking that, if I'm going to throw batteries into my emergency supplies, I better have enough combined power to be able to do some welding.

Can anyone confirm the math?

These are dollar-store quality batteries. You can get 8 of these "heavy duty" batteries at dollar tree for $1. That's as cheap as this Woot and you don't have to buy 180 of them.

I use these batteries because they are ridiculously cheap, but they don't last long at all. If you don't mind changing batteries continually, and don't mind keeping spares around, they can be a cheap way to power non-essential electronics.

But get them at the dollar store, not 180 at a time. These sort of batteries do NOT have good shelf lives.

"Perfect for remotes, radios, clocks, phones, flashlights, toys and more!"

Seriously, Woot: just because Chinese manufacturers lie about their products with no qualms, that doesn't mean that copying the bogus claims into your product descriptions isn't wrong. It isn't "entertainment" to mislead people into thinking these weak batteries will power clocks, phones (!!!) or toys for long enough to matter. They are especially bad for most motorized toys and for digital cameras, which may only for work for a few seconds with them. Who wants to do that to a kid on Xmas morning...?

ovirto

quality posts: 10 Private Messages ovirto

Except they're not really even good for that because zinc-carbon batteries have a very low shelf life compared to alkaline. Unless you have a lot of lower powered devices, you probably won't make it through the entire stash of 60 with them discharging.

Seriously... what kind of "phone" is powered by heavy-duty batteries? Maybe the fake ones that light up and give out candy? Even then, they won't last long with these batteries.

Toys R Us has Buy-one-Get-one-Free 20 Packs of Alkeline batteries for $7. Free shipping to the store.

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3889645

If we accept the assumption that an Alkeline battery has 4x the stored energy of a Heavy Duty battery, then it means the 40 batteries for $7 at Toys R Us is equivalent to the 120 batteries for $16.98 here at Woot!

So consider carefully what you are looking for. If you have a Toys R Us in town and want to power devices, you might want to go with them. But if you want to fill your brother's stocking with batteries so you can beat him over the head with it on Christmas morning, definitely go with Woot! Not that I would plan to do such a thing...

And for our Jewish friends, I can see an opportunity 8 days of brotherly beat-downs in your future ;-)
