Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

Why give to a food bank? All's they'll do is sit there and eat it all...

Where is the option for all of the above?

What if you did more than one of these - this shouldn't be a radio button, this should be a check box - some of us do more than this (not looking for praise, I do what I do to make others happy and yes, to feel good about it)

good for you! and I agree, many people do many of these things, and it's wonderful that they do.

I've worked with groups that directly benefit from charities and foundations. Even local schools can be in desperate need of volunteers. We've had 3 volunteer maintenance days this year where community people - many in their early 20s (we have two local universities), have come and spread bark on the playground and repaired damaged equipment, or worked on stuff that needed attention inside the buildings. Not to mention all the volunteers who come in to read, help with math, teach science....

For the donations option, they could put a pull down tab or make it scaleable to choose from, small, medium or large donation options. (almost sounds like a fast-food order).

This is how I give back to my community - United Way of West Chester.

Sorry, I stopped giving to human-supporting charities after the government kept adding layer on layer of welfare.

I support animal charities and nothing else.

Where's the option "was too broke and strapped for time to do anything?"

That welfare you refer to is only for the stinking wealthy, not the starving and broke with no health care.

Added a few coins in a bunch of the SA kettles I passed by. Also, went to the blood bank to donate platelets (takes about 3 hours and two needles). I'm at 78 units now; two more units donated, and I'm a ten-gallon donor! :-)

I donated a bunch of toys/games/consoles via Childs Play, but I wouldn't look down on anyone who kept their money, rich or poor. It's your money. You should be praised for donating, but you shouldn't be criticized for not donating.

The digital economy has had a bad affect on my charitability.

I don't see anyone ringing bells and holding red kettles online where I've done almost the entirety of my shopping.

Even if I had seen them on the streets- I never carry cash or cheque anymore. What happened to the salvation army- they seem to have disappeared? One year- company I worked for volunteered to ring the bells.

Talk about interesting psychology- it was fun watching the reaction on peoples faces when they saw me. Some praised me- others ran from me as if I had leprosy.

I'm not going to be a total scrooge- I will find some way to help out before the season is over. So far- I've been completely unhelpfull though and a useless contributor to society... except here on woot where hopefully my sarcastic comments have brought peace and joy to all- and to all a good night.

Woot- since there are no red drums outside storefronts in cyberspace: how about a charity.woot site?

You already have the staff and infrastructure basically in place.

Have a different charity a day- and allow people the option to donate 1,2, or 3$ to them. Or allow charities to sell a product on that site- with profits going to the charity.

The red kettles are alive and well at Kroger stores and Walmarts here.

Well, another day has passed and I didn't use algebra once.

I'm donating to my credit card companies but otherwise too strapped to be giving money away. If there were charities that accepted motorcycle maintenance as a donation, I'd be golden.

I agree. I have donated funds to several worthy charities and donated my time. Also not looking for praise, but it would have made the poll results more accurate if we could have selected more than one choice.

Although this is sweet and I like the thought, you must have missed the last charity offering and the controversies it sparked.

There are lots of charitable causes, but each of them come with value judgements, politics, personal baggage, and the like. For example, what makes Animal Charity A get to be on woot, while Animal Charity B is in need? Which children hospital fundraising organization should get the love, etc.

With a little googling, you will find there are 'charity portals' which will let you shop and donate, and I hope if you're serious you'll consider that route, or visiting the charity you have in mind directly and donating.

I'm just hanging out, really.

I kept my views on how the human race is completely crap, so i'm only taking care of myself! Take that everyone else!

I should also mention i'm quite cynical and misanthropic.

Aye, that is absolutely true; it would just make it easier to remember and do if it were at a site you visit every day.

I come to Woot almost daily and would see the option daily

I'm unlikely to go to www.SaveTheEuropeanBrownSpeckledLesserHairbeakedPenguin.com on an almost daily basis- even if it were a cause I were passionate about.

As for some choices being less tastefull to some users than others.

I object to the ethics of Apple ;) - I still see iPod speakers on Woot from time to time.

We didn't exactly get along. She didn't like my friends. Or me, for that matter.

It's bad enough to make excuses, but it's downright evil to make up a completely fraudulent excuse that has no basis in fact, only in a morally bankrupt political ideology.

I too do not know of any "stinkin wealthy" that have received Welfare - oh excuse me, you mean the milliionaire bankers, brokers, etc. who were bailed out and most of whom are not suffering any losses? I can agree with that. However, the true Welfare/Food Stamp/Aid of Dependant Children, etc. type of money often can be seen in the possession of people whose lives never change and they are n the system for a good long time if not forever. BUT, BUT, there are ao many deserving people out of work, money, and hope in today's economy, an effort must be made IMO to find those charities, organizations, etc., who help this group of truly hurting and need people who are NOT milking the sytem and would not even know where to begin. Sort of like, don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

I agree with the other posts suggesting check boxes for multi-select rather than exclusionary radio buttons.

I'm a frequent blood platelet donor. My next appointment is scheduled for the 23rd, most likely another triple-unit platelet donation. I've made at least one donation each month in 2011, some months I made two separate donations.
