wateriestfire wrote:The thing that nobody has mentioned is that an All-In-One PC DOES cost more than an IMac, and why bother comparing an all in one with an ATX case anyway? The people that want an iMac are not going to be swayed by traditional desktops anyway, they are two different machines.

I could also say "Why bother buying a laptop when a desktop is better?". It is because a laptop is lightweight and portable. An all in one takes up less space and is much lighter.

Both Windows and OSX have issues in their own separate funny ways. I am a computer technician/programmer, and I have to say that I stopped liking PCs after Win 98 SE up until Windows 7 came out, Windows was utter crap in between. It was just awful in terms of support, in terms of software selection (what's good about millions of software choices if it's all crap?), Bugs, the fact that it was a resource hog, their stupid buggy activation service, lack of x64 support... oh I could go on...

Windows 7 is the first one the first one that fixes almost everything that was so bad about the last 10 years of Windows. However, it's gotten way too large with too many features and background stuff to even properly manage it anymore.

Macs also have painful ridiculous and stupid issues, with their proprietary everything, their firmware manipulation (to make it so you can't use new hardware on an older mac), their constant "format of the week" which they have a lonnng list of failed formats (more than Sony), their constant desire to screw good things up, no dvd on mac mini, Macbook air at $2,400 with a core 2 duo, Final Cut Pro X, $300 for a device that only plays music, no flash support on iphones or ipads, NO BLU-RAY SUPPORT!!!

lots of other stupid stuff...

Pick your poison people. I'm an Amiga fan myself...

Some great points.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned Apple forums.

I think this can be one of the main selling points of buying an Apple - especially a certified refurb for which you can then buy AppleCare (not from Apple).

Since everyone is running nearly the same OS a newbie will find dozen of users to answer questions on the Apple forum (or multiple forums) concerning just about anything that you could imagine - any time of the day - in many languages... that is a nice thing about the limited choices of Apple products/control.

I tell my family to buy Macs so when they come to me with questions on how to use it, I tell them I have a PC.

Why do you people rant and rave about this?
You will elf over the difference in price yet spend many times more on booze, cigarettes, cable, text messaging, cellphone plans, etc.
My PC and Mac Mini enjoy each others' company, why can't you?

Anyone can afford a pc, and for the price it's more of a disposable PC. You are going to treat your Mercedes nicer than you would your Chevy... but remember you are driving that Chevy everyday not worrying what potholes you hit, not washing it, not changing the oil, not maintaining it- but then you complain that American cars aren't built as well as your Mercedes.

We went to iMacs running Windows 7 in our lab, replacing 150 Dells, because the reliability & service is much better with Apple machines. Our macs generally get 2 more years of service than PC machines.

OK, I've been running Windows stuff for 12 years now. In all those years, I've gotten exactly 1, yes ONE virus.

Currently I'm running bupkus for virus protection. Yep, NADA. ZIP! Nothing!

However, I know where to go. I DO go to the "bad" sitesd, but as has been mentioned earlier, I go to the "good" "bad" sites.

Did it improve over those 7 years ??

Was the memory space cleared when you exited a program?

Did you not run out of resources every other day and have to reboot ?

Of course it improved over that time. Run out of system resources? Have you ever been a sys-admin?

We rarely had unscheduled reboots. We typically bounced our servers to correspond with our monthly patch roll outs or hardware upgrades.

And it will be outdated and chawk full of viruses before the end of your first year of ownership - - leaving you with no choice but to replace it by purchasing another... At which point you could have bought a Mac that will last damn near forever.

Woot says usually 5 "business" days to ship. That puts us at either Saturday the 30th or January 2nd before they fall behind their own standards. In my world, Saturday is a business day. I'm chompin at the bit. I want this thing NOW!

Five business days from the 24th is January 3. And note that it's usually five business days.

Mine was shipped. Yesterday, when only the label was entered, it said the scheduled arrival was 12/30 (per Fedex). Today it has actually shipped out of TX and it now says scheduled delivery 12/31. I hope this one is true!

I learned this on Woot. You can track your order # at FedX. Click tracking at top of page, select track by reference, add country and zip. Mine went out today, says it will get here on the 4th.

Thanks for your help! Apparently mine shipped on the 29th, but I never received an email from Woot with the tracking info.

I did not receive a shipping email from Woot, but I got a phone call from FedEx this morning saying it would be delivered today w/ a signature required. I'm in Los Angeles.

One can request that the package be delivered to a local FedEx (Kinko's) office and be held for pick up. Unfortunately, I didn't receive the phone call from FedEx until this morning so I may have missed the cut-off.

Ugh! Did you end up getting yours today??? I live in Riverside, and when I checked the tracking status, it said it would get delivered by the 30th (today). So we (my boyfriend and I) waited ALL day for this thing- and it never came. We called FedEx and complained and essentially they said it isn't their fault that their tracking information is incorrect, it is woot's fault because they chose the slowest form of transportation, and it will not be delivered until the 4th. Freaking b.s.!!! I haven't ever had a problem with receiving my order on time with woot, and how could it be woot's fault if FedEx is the one who inputs that information? We also asked if we could just pick it up at a local FedEx and they said no. The package supposedly departed from TX this morning at 6:42 am, and FedEx says that it is still in TX. Hmmmm. Very annoyed.

I'm sorry, you're totally right. MS Server is definitely the most reliable, high performing, secure server operating system with the least amount overhead.

I'll go give this hot tip to all the network admins so they can roll it out immediately.

United Technologies Corp (UTC), a very large corporation runs Windows servers exclusively and it NEVER GOES DOWN! I have never seen such a stable network anywhere. I work for one of the major divisions and am proud to say that their Windows network operates flawlessly.

Same thing, as far as the "free stuff"... Mine does not recognize the built-in 802.11 wireless (only list ethernet) in network. and the video is SLOW. You can watch it PAINT the screen. I hope this is not the "lemon". Woot?

As a noobie to Mac, I'm glad mine won't arrive until Wednesday. This gave me time to order and receive, from amazon: new desk (I'm keeping the old Dell),fresh battery for the old stand-by UPS, replacement for the cable for same which the Xmas puppy chewed, full-sized (with number pad) Mac keyboard, wrist pad and keyboard cover for same, new mouse pad with wrist support, powered USB hub for more slots, and two Mac books to read during today's Bowl games. Desk is assembled, goodies are on it waiting for the 'puter, and it's time to turn on the TV and do my homework. By delivery day Wednesday I should be ready!

I think it completely sucks that from order to delivery it is taking 10 days. FedEx called on 12/29 and claimed they will deliver on 12/30 only to not do it. Then the date was updated to 1/4. Hope the FedEx computers all crash AFTER the delivery.
