I'm going to add my vote for Cool Reader too. Me and my wife has logged hundreds of hours on this program. Very easy on the eyes and you can read in absolutely any condition you might find yourself in (outside on a sunny day to complete darkness).

I especially like that you can choose 1% backlight and go to a dark font color (like dark green or maroon) and read in a completely dark room without any strain on your eyes. It's great to have completely adjusted night vision, not bother the person you are in bed with, and be able to read at the same time.

Go wireless.

I had an Android tablet. Half the apps don't work and you have to root the danged thing to make the other half useful.

I gave my wife my old tablet. She started using it, but soon found it more trouble than it was worth, as I had before. It is collecting dust while she uses the heck out of her iPad.

iPads work amazingly well right out of the box.

BTW, I sell computers and tablets for a living. My customers come back raving about their iPads. They actually use them. Continually. Most of my Android customers enjoy their toy for a few weeks before it ends up forgotten on the bottom of a pile somewhere.

Thanks for your 2 woots worth.
I'm just sayin, Smartpost is about the dumbest "dis"service I have ever seen.
I bought the 16GB Thrive that shipped on the 7th and I still don't have it.

And you would be???

Beyond that, there's an odd assumption when someone says, "That's what tablets are - expensive toys. Lots of fun and great for couch surfing but not a productivity device....yet." I'm perfectly OK with couch surfing. I don't feel the need to be productive every waking minute of my life. "Not a productivity device"? That's not a knock against it; it's what justifies it!

Awfully sensitive, but anyway I apologize for any insult.

Just being incredulous because your experience is so out there compared to mine:

All my android programs work. The tablet, phone, etc. are used for hours every night (for cooking, exercising, looking up information, skyping, watching TV programs, reading, singing and gaming). They are not rooted.

No problems setting up, using, and maintaining the tablets at all.

iPad stopped allowing us to install programs over iTunes. It sometimes goes to update a program and crashes. One program crashes and sends us back to home but then all the icons become unresponsive. There have been times it just drains the battery without any reason.

Not to mention all the times it crashes just normally and locks up and needs to be restarted.

As you can see, there is a reason I am incredulous.

Quick question...is "standard shipping" just that...or is it smartpost??

I bought a case with a built in keyboard for when I don't want to type on the touchscreen and it's totally replaced my e-reader. Went for a 3.5 hour flight last week and was occupied the whole time between books and games. It _is_ a little heavier than a lot of other tablets on the market, but I personally like the 'less-breakable' feeling.

Which case / keyboard did you purchase?

Well, mine just arrived (I'm not too far from Woot World Headquarters). Looks pretty much brand new. The only hint that it is a refurb is that the power cord had clearly been rewound and retied. So you would think the refurbisher would have noticed that the plug does not fit the Thrive. Arrggh....

Apparently Toshiba had the same bottom-feeder refurbishers do these as did the 16 gig models offered recently. I used to have great luck with refurbs but I've had several disappointments in a row lately.. Oh well, at least it looks nice so maybe it'll work well once I can power it up.

One note to those who, like me, have not handled one before-- it's not nearly as thick as some reviews would have you believe. Sure, it's way thicker than the wafer-thin iWhatyamacallit, but it's not a brick. Feels more robust and substantial than the iThingies, which is fine with me. I wanted the USB and SD slots, so if this is the form factor that allows for those I'm great with that.

Here's hoping the rest of you get the correct power supply and that Woot solves this for me in a hurry so I can play with my new toy.

Wow, very quick. My status is still "Again, your order will typically ship within 5 business days." :/

My first woot, so I hope it all goes smoothly. Although from what I've read about SmartPost, I'm kinda expecting something to go awry.

This is my first woot as well. Mine still doesn't say it has shipped and I'm a littled worried that it will not go as smoothly as I would like, but we will see. Fingers crossed.

Shipped! It'll be "fun" to see how circuitous the trip will be in getting here, based on others' experiences.

I haven't turned it on yet... I like living in the ignorant world of "what I just paid a lot of money for is here, shiny, and no doubt works."

On the Fedex Tracking Page it has been showing that it is out for delivery since this morning, how accurate is this? Also, I live in an apartment complex, do they usually leave it by the front door when no one is there? or do they bring it to the Leasing Office?

As far as I know, the package will actually be delivered by the US Postal Service, so I imagine they would deliver it the same way they deliver any other package to you.

It really depends on how your mail carrier normally does things of that nature. I would suggest checking with the apartment office. Odds are they will have it if it shows delivered and you don't see it at your doorstep.

OK Got it when I got home from work - at the front door. I've been on it and played videos through my TV, checked my email, and played around with it. Only thing is, I need to update and that's causing some problems - you can google "updates problems for thrive" to see what I mean...

I received mine yesterday. Parts are all there and it is in new condition. There are no scratches and had no other issues. It powered on fine and I immediately updated it to Android 3.2. While I agree it is a little bit on the heavy side, it is also $300 less than an iPad and will do everything the iPad can do and with more ports. I used a USB keyboard to enter the registration information. No problems at all. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase.

Just got mine in New Jersey today. Looks all good. Powers up fine. I am afraid to update it to 3.2 after reading the crap about that. Installed some free apps on it and having fun. I feel like I have arrived in the 2010's now.

Don't know about your purchase, but the 32GB one that I got from Woot is backed by a 90 day warranty from Toshiba. You might should look into it.

Yep, it looks like any Thrive that has Android Build HMJ37.01.5.0018 cannot run the update listed in the Toshiba "Service Station" because Toshiba for some reason removed an intermediate update required before 3.1.01.5.0032 can be installed. ThriveForums has a thread on this issue here: http://www.thriveforums.org/forum/toshiba-thrive-general-discussions/6678-woot-purchases.html

I purchased this tablet in January of 2012. I've used it on a limited basis. It now will not hold a charge so it's pretty useless. Too heavy to use for a frisbie, too.
