By "DualBook", they mean that it serves two purposes: not only as a paperweight, but also as the catalyst for the homicidal rampage known 'round the world as the "WootOff Massacre".

These are obsolete.

One of the things that didn't work was youtube. It let me go to the website, but it wouldn't play any videos there.

A co-worker purchased one of these during a prior Woot-off - he says it works very well, and is good value for the money.

Pro: Can be updated to a newer version of Android, if you look around enough.

Con: Bought one of these for my daughter a few months back for her birthday, hoping it would be an inexpensive way of getting her a tablet. Within a month, the screen was having problems, and eventually became unusable.

We bought her a Kindle Fire for Christmas.

I bought one during the last time they were on sale. Buy it for the e-reader, not the tablet. It comes at 2.1 out of the box but can be manually upgraded to 2.2, but is only useful for the simplest of tasks. No Google Market access, but I would just download on my phone and then create backup APKs and load them onto my dualbook.

I have one - its useful, but unfortunately the battery life was atrocious. Good for ereading and note taking, but the Android side is sorely lacking.
Firstly, it comes with Android 1.6 so you have to upgrade it, which is simple, but most people get stuck on the fact that they can't 'register' it because the company is out of business.

The fine people over at mobileread forums will help you out with everything and anything you need to get this going.

If you're up for a pretty cool device that will get a lot of people talking, something that's good for kids to doodle with with a decent screen for basic games (DOES NOT SUPPORT MULTITOUCH) then buy this. Just be ready to do some hacking to get it to work.

Here's my Amazon Review of the device

does wooters automatically hit the button for you or do you have to click on the button on their page?

Love mine, OS upgrade available (google Entourage Edge Ermine), Amazon app store, solid construction, full-sized and mini USB ports, Docs2Go included, serious 'cool factor' with the dual-screen layout (I'm asked about it all the time), etc. I paid twice as much for my first one from woot, at $80 this is a steal. You doubters missed out.

Cons: Manufacturer is out of business. If you're worried, get SquareTrade for it. No GPS or accelerometer. A bit heavy and thick, but not so much if you consider that you're holding two screens (color LCD for the tablet AND a b/w eInk for the e-book).

I got one of these on here over the summer, when it was $150. Here's some points about it:

  • Android 1.6 by default, but upgradable to 2.2.
  • Doesn't come with Android Market or any of the Google apps, but those can be hacked in. Check the MobileRead forums.
  • The e-reader side takes notes well, and reads quite nicely. It handles ePub quite well, and PDF acceptably.
  • You can't run arbitrary apps on the e-ink side - for example, if you want to use the Kindle app, you have to run it on the LCD. You're limited to the built-in reader and note apps.
  • No multitouch - this is annoying. Resistive touch means you can use the stylus, though.
  • The camera sucks all the balls. It has a tendency to force-close any app that tries to use it.
  • It ranges from "kinda slow" to "same-day service!" Don't expect any pretense of speed out of this thing.

tl;dr: Good e-reader. Half-decent Android tablet if you're willing to put in the effort and have the tech-fu to do so. Otherwise, this is probably not for you.

Actually, it plays YouTube videos just fine -- even without upgrading the Donut OS. You just need to use the built-in YouTube app. If you use the included browser, or my preferred browser, Dolphin HD, it will ask if you want to use the YouTube app whenever you try to access a video. Just say yes. YouTube videos play smoothly and beautifully, and even full screen if you prefer.

i brought one the last time they had them on sale. I LOVE IT!!!! It's great for the web, email, and most games. I even put the overdrive, Nook, and Kindle apps on it. If you want to write the Great American Novel on it, then get a computer, otherwise it cheaper than an IPAD and it's great for simple tasks.

I bought one on here, and couldn't get past the registering crap, didn't get a chance to monkey with it yet and the screen cracked on the right side (not the ereader side). Any suggestions? it wont work at all now.

I am happy with mine.

Go to MOBILEREAD.COM'S ENTOURAGE EDGE forum. The posts cover a bunch of solutions.

The device after an upgrade can be used to access the Android market, do e-mail, read e-books, etc.
