it's $600 straight from Apple. I'd say this is a solid deal. Plus it's Apple Re-certified so it's practically brand new.

I wouldn't buy ANY iPad right now. Wait until the iPad 3 is released (possibly in a month or so) and then the prices for the 1st and 2nd generation models will drop significantly. And unless you ABSOLUTELY NEED to have 64 gb, this isn't a good deal. Go with a 16 GB newer model either way...

I wonder if a new battery is part of the reconditioning process -- or if the battery is already several years old when I receive this.

Now this is one tablet I can stomach.

An Apple Re certify is definitely not the same thing. When Apple re certifies a product they replace anything that is wrong and give it a one year Apple warranty just like you were buying it brand new. Plus you can even add Apple Care to it if you want.

Head and shoulders above a normal refurb IMO
