The iPad 2 16gb is just a little more money, $500 - WiFi only. But that extra 64Gb and 3g is really sweet.

"No Service Commitment. Min. $14.99/mo. data plan required." So it's $9.99 more for that required initial month after you figure shipping. Plus any data overages for going over their cheapest plan's cap.

lunarparcel wrote:Even the oldest iPad is less than 2 years old. So the chances are very good that the corresponding battery is less than "several years old" as well.

Considering that batteries on these types of devices are usually only good for ~3 years, 1-2 years gone when you get it is quite significant.

Here's what I got in the Santa's Sack recently:

The Bag:
. Orange reusable bag with pink flower (useful since we have a 5¢ bag tax here)
The Usual Crap:
. Cupcake lip balm x 2
. Spitball Dartboard, Excuses edition
. White washcloth with curly design
. Optoma Micro Projection Screen
The Unusual Crap:
. Luna the levitating cat.

Actually Luna wasn't part of the SSOC, she added herself to it.

Seriously tho.. I have 2 iPods, (2nd and 3rd), and a 3Gs.. (4S next month), and never had a problem.

the 3rd I bought refurbed from here in 2010. Went into an otterbox the day I got it and it's in perfect condition.

Cancel after the first month. When I got mine, the first month was free, so it didn't cost me anything extra. Don't know if that's still the case or not.

These are a bit like used cars. Sure, there are better models with airbags now, yada, yada. But, buy this now, hang onto it in pristine condition for 30 years and then sell it to some poor so-and-so for 5 million dollars (inflation adjusted - I'm not going to make Dr. Evil's mistake) in 2041!

Hey, it worked with the original Apple - the price of those babies will skyrocket into 2014.

I mean, c'mon, how many 1st gen iPads can there be? It's not like Apple has sold millions and millions of these things...

Still looking to get some more great stuff soon!!

Scratch that: Looks like woot's refurbished models are selling with a full year. Nice!

In other words, the same warranty as a normal Apple Refurbished. Really, Apple Refurbished are so good that it's how I buy most Apple products now. Including my iPad 2. They really are practically new but with a decent discount.

kfurrow wrote:I wonder if a new battery is part of the reconditioning process -- or if the battery is already several years old when I receive this.

If it is true Apple Refurbished then they state in writing that they put in a new battery and front face. From Apple.com:
"We test and certify all Apple refurbished products and include a 1-year warranty. All refurbished iPad models also include a brand new battery and outer shell."

mitchloft wrote:OK - now everyone KNOWS that you can get a pretty decent entire laptop for about $150 less than this, right?

As long as size, weight, and battery life are not some of the reasons you're looking at an iPad.
