I bought 2 of these when they were on woot the other day, just started carbonating them last night. its a fun, low cost entry to the hobby, might end up getting the bigger gear because of it!

I love my Mr. Beer Kits! I had to get more than one so I can have some every few weeks. Takes about 4 weeks to brew

I bought this many months ago and the beer came out great! Also, when your done it makes for a great 2 gallon ice tea holder to leave in the fridge with its own faucet!!

If you want to make your own beer then do it right. Years and years ago I bought one of these and it was quite mediocre. A "brew bag" that you hung on a door knob was as good. I moved on to the right way and brewed really good beer for several years.

My pops got this for christmas a few years back. Makes pretty decent beer, but more importantly, got him interested in brewing with bigger equipment. Definitely worth having if you're not sure if brewing is for you or not.

As a homebrewer, I disapprove. As a human, I still disapprove. Yuck.

got one of these a long time ago... maybe 5 or 6 years, it was a gateway into a great hobby.

I love homebrewing, and this is a decent way to learn the basics

I know this sounds odd...but can you make root beer or birch beer with this kit?

I got this for my husband last Christmas. It's great for guys who only want to do this as a light hobby, like my husband. The included Pale Ale is not that good, so it's great to use when you first try it out, but the Irish Stout and Belgian Farmhouse mix we bought from their main site is great.

Cool little product. It got me started in homebrewing. Beers come out very similar tasting due to lack of variety of bear yeast and pre-mixed, pre-hopped cans of malt-extract.

Cool for beginners, but I highly recommend getting a big boy kit if it's something you want to get into.

Amen. Inferior product, inferior beer.

No, but they have the root beer kit on their website.

I started brewing using one of these years ago. It made it easy to learn, and the beer was pretty good. Eventually I moved on to bigger and better equipment.

I got one of these the last time they were on woot. Still making my first batch, but I've heard you can actually make good beer using it. I've found Mr Beer Fans is a good resource to tap for help/ideas.

You can acutally make ok beer with this if you pay attention to sanitation and keep your fermentation temps low. But be warned. This is a gateway kit to homebrewing obsessive compulsion.

It starts with this and the next thing you know these show up on the wall:

Be careful. Be safe.

Yes you can make rootbeer with it. There's even a rootbeer kit at Mrbeer.com

This is not a bad intro kit to make beer at home, especially if you're not sure if you're going to dive into the hobby. Just be aware that if you decide to step up to regular homebrewing you will not really use any of the equipment from this kit. Also be aware that you'll need to use the Mr Beer ingredients with this as the regular homebrew kits are much more concentrated.

I sell home beer and wine making stuff in my hardware store and every month I get one or two people looking to use the ingredients I sell in their Mr Beer kit. It really doesn't work. So, have fun with this, but if you want to really get into homebrewing then skip it and go right to a regular beer making kit (equipment runs about $70, ingredients about another $40).

Actually, they make a separate Mr. Rootbeer kit. There's no need for the keg if you're making root beer since you aren't fermenting, just carbonating. It's easy to find on their site if you want to take a look.

I'd get one, but . . . For the sake of matrimonial (and domestic) bliss, I'll pass. Buying this would either get me started on the slippery slope to homebrewing - or would turn me off to beer.

Either wouldn't be really bad, but I prefer my beer and my wife and this might lead me to giving up one or the other.
