I dont like the looks of that old school style power adapter.

I have the 16gb one. You have to use the power cord to charge, but it charges really quick. You can charge while you sleep. I only have to charge every few days too.

Had similar WIFI issue with my Xoom. Changed the IP settings for DHCP to static and that resolved the issue. There are lots of sources on the web that provide help. Thinking of telling my brother about this deal. He's been interested in getting a 10.1 tablet. My Xoom updated to ICS just last week. Nice updates to H and snappier responses

That's just how it is in sales...Car dealers do the same reductions when newer models are released. Only people just born have never seen this practice before. Best wishes....from my ICS Xoom.

Aluminum back compared to plastic. Mini-HDMI and MicroSD compared full sized HDMI and SD. Easily rooted compared to almost impossible to root. Both have Gorilla Glass and regular USB ports.

question: I just ordered the 7" iconia through best buy last night for $259 and now am wondering if i should cancel that for this. the 7" pales in comparison for Gb as it is only an 8g but I'm wondering about size. how portable is the 10? what's the comparison to, say, a book regarding portability? I'm not intending on buying another comp for a long time so I need this to be "it".

FYI- No Android tablet charges through USB. USB is only 5V. These tablets need 12V.

If it did charge via USB, the battery would be tiny and/or take forever to charge.

But, unlike cars, older units become quickly unusable as newer apps require newer units. Imagine if a 2006 card only ran on gas made in 2006! ;)

I sold my rooted touchpads in favour of my iconia. I have it rooted and overclocked to 1.5ghz and it maintains great battery life. Lots of stable custom roms and a great group of XDA devs that work on iconias.

I think it's easily portable. I take it to work with me everyday, and now travel with it over my laptop.

That's a stretch. You're not going to have any problems with compatibility with this or any other similarly dated model for quite a while. If anything, there will be very little that will utilize the power of the new tablets for some time.

Wow, first time I noticeuthat it comes with a 2cell battery... o have the 16gb version and now I need to go check about my battery.. anyways it last me about 8hrs of continuous video and browsing.

Now I also have the 7" iconia tab A100 and that battery last only about 5hrs

I'm kind of bummed they didn't knock another $50 off this refurb price, especially considering the other comments made by other members saying how they got refurb deals for $250.

Here's the info for the A200:

Well the A200 is a minor model of this tablet falling between the A100 and the A500 .

Is NOT a more advanced model than the A500 it misses the camera, he HDMI port and 2 internal sensors plus some other details

I would recommend a case

Bad example. Because so many manufacturers are so slow to upgrade units (if they do at all), coders have an incentive to reach for the widest user base. I have a T-Mo G2 that started with Froyo and now has Gingerbread and tablets that have run Gingerbread, Honeycomb, and Ice Cream Sandwich and there haven't been any real compatibility issues, just an occasional wait for an app to be updated.

You should never buy a device based on what it might do in the future. If it doesn't work for you when you're looking at it, wait for something that does.

My Xoom was updated to ICS recently and there are features that aren't as good as the Honeycomb equivalents, even down to the lock screen.

Would just like to add that just about ANYTHING connected to the USB port is recognized and can be used. This includes keyboards, mice, flash drives of all capacities, and external hard drives (formatted as FAT32 - doesn't like NTFS).

I have had mine for over a year, and rarely use my laptop anymore. It's a capable tool for everyday internet browsing, movie watching, book reading and e-mails.

Oh, definitely a case, I was going to ask if it could go in a purse, but then the sizes of purses vary.....lol. I think it's smaller than my dd's v-tech "laptop" which is definitely portable. Thinking I'm going to have 2 tablets coming in with the 7" getting returned....

New to tablets. Is this like the cell phone deals where you have to have an internet plan on it or can it pick up wifi where available? Can I tether with the internet on my cell like I can with my laptop? Thinking this would be so much easier to carry around than big laptop but I need the same ability to connect to work.

Good question. I'm wondering this myself or if it will just be a distraction. I think the main thing I'd use it for would be to keep powerpoint slides open on my own so I could reference older slides/diagrams at my own pace, and not need to carry around a laptop. Normally I'd just haul the extra few pounds but I have a chronic upper back/neck issue with headaches so I stopped bringing even my 13" lightweight laptop last semester and just minimal notebooks.

I suppose you'd want a bluetooth keyboard to actually take notes. What'd be really great if there was a good program to record notes with a stylus integrated with typed notes...that would seal the deal.

I wouldn't think so. You will be needing to print reports, and that definitely is not this device's strong suit.

I bought 2 of the 16gb versions (refurb) for my kids and they absolutely love them.. They play any game, watch movies, facebook etc.. Battery life is very good, but the short charge cord is a pain. My youngest dropped his from about 2.5ft onto our laminate floor and the plastic seprated but snapped back together and no issues.

No. This is a Google Android device, not a Microsoft Windows device. There are other devices on the market that can run MS Access. That, or you can get an Android "flavor" of Access.

agree. you would also have the problem of speed and storage limits along with the fact that there might not be an app for that. I know there are office programs that will run on it but there might be limitations. Tablets are a great thing but they are not meant to replace a laptop or desktop. I am sure you could use it as a student but myself, i would rather use it as fun and leave the laptop for work. just my 2 coppers.

This is a Wi-Fi device. No cell phone plan necessary.

You can get apps from Android Market to tether to your cell phone, assuming that your cell has a data plan.

I have long waited for a tablet. I think I will go for this one.

I have questions though. Is there a list of video formats it supports?

Also, people are talking about rooting it. although I understand what root access is, I also know unix/linux etc... what is the reason I would want to root this tablet.

Thanks in adv.
