I know I'm super late to the discussion, but if anyone's still reading and contemplating, let me just say that this is the absolute best value in tablets out there right now. This thing, while not as svelte as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, or as convertible as the Asus Transformer/Prime, or as trendy as the iPad 2, is definitely a capable little machine.

Android 2.3.x (Gingerbread) runs like a champ on it with a little bit of "doing" to get it set up (not difficult, just have to follow directions well).

Android 4.0.x (Ice Cream Sandwich) is in the works, with a very early (and buggy) alpha preview available from the most respected name in Android mods (CyanogenMod team, founded and run by Steve Kondik, who has been modding Android since it was first released, and has since landed a job at Samsung in their Android dev team).

I bought 3 of the 32gb models during the fire sale. Gave one to my wife's folks, one to my dad, and kept one for her and I to use.

I really like WebOS as well, but it lacks apps for some things we really use tablets for (Netflix and games, namely), though it does have a Kindle App (that I like better than the Android version personally), Facebook, and (I think) YouTube as well.

All-in-all, even for $220, even for a refurb, this is a solid little device with a dual-core 1.5Ghz CPU that is amply capable of 99% of "tablety" tasks.

We have the 32GB and also have an iPad2. It's really a toss up. We like the multi-tasking on the HP. It's a really good product, but, should it appreciate in value over time?

This is a great deal. I've had my TP for a few months now. This is worth it even if you plan to use webOS, but I put Ice Cream Sandwich on it this week, and it is awesome. For my money, this thing is better than an iPad once you put Android on it, and at this price it's a no brainer.

I got a 32GB direct from HP. I really did like it. Gave it to my sister after I bought a Xoom (had a hard time justifying owning 2 tablets by myself). To be frank, I prefer WebOS, but because there isn't support for watching online media I stuck with the Xoom. That, and even though it has Kindle on it, Amazon has basically dropped TP support. The only way to get books on it was to purchase and download directly to the TP. It won't upload any books I already have on my Amazon account. Compared with the Xoom, I prefer the HP screen size and layout. The HP speakers are nicer. WebOS would be my favorite mobile OS, if only there was more support for it. If this were $20 cheaper, I'd give in and buy another and install Android.

From all I've read here it sounds like HP's firesale should have cost someone their job. HP could have easily sold them for $100 more than they did and they would still have sold them all and their loss wouldn't nearly have been so great. I mean, Woot sold out of the refurb 16gb at $70 more than the fire sale and pretty quickly too. Great for all you guys who got the fire sale deal and there seems to be a lot of you. HP's loss was certainly your gain, but obviously it appears HP totally miscalculated how much they should have priced these units for during that sale and ended up taking an even bigger loss than what was necessary.

I bought the 16G TP last night just before it sold out at Deals Woot, but now I'm wondering if I really should get this model. I will want to watch movies, do email, browse the web, Facebook, shop, read books, etc. Not really into games and haven't explored many Android apps yet.

Good maps and/or GPS would be helpful. I'm not sure how much I would store on the TP--haven't had a tablet yet, mostly use a laptop but I'd like something really portable, and want to get used to Android.

I read that the USB port with a card reader can add memory, but is that going to be a major hassle? On the other hand, I need to economize.

Buyer's remorse and being wishy-washy . . . .

You got $100 coupon? All they offered me was a 10% off coupon with a maximum value of $10. I had a TP in my cart 3 times and every time as I went through the PP checkout, it told me at the end that the item was no longer available.. That said, I should of got three coupons.. ;) oh well glad to see someone was able to make out on this! at least I'm in for one now.. He.. He.. Maybe I should bill PP for it!

So, let me get this straight. Buying the 32gb at $219 and changing the operating system to an Android is a whole lot better than buying the Kindle Fire (new) at $199. Is that about right? Are there any nay-sayers to what I'm saying??

I ended up with 6 HP Touchpads (4x 32Gb, 2x 16Gb) from the fire sale.

I placed 1 order on that Saturday night for 3. HP then announced that they were sold out, and were planning on cancelling orders, on the Home store, but updated the SMB store on Sunday saying that they had 32Gb stock. So I placed a 2nd order of 3 to hedge my bets. I was surprised to get all 6.

I kept 1, gave 2 as Christmas gifts, sold 2 to family and 1 to a family friend.

I much prefer the WebOS interface to the Apple iOS on the iPad, I have both. It just seems more intuitive to me.

The development of ICS (CM9) for the Touchpad, for me, is a just a plus. I'm waiting for Alpha 1 before implementing it as I don't want to have to deal with patches just to fix battery charging, wifi, and other issues.

I would call it dead. It may have been built to compete with an iPad, but I'll keep my iPad (2).

I would consider $150 or even (maybe) $175, but this price is just too darn high for the carp it is. At $150 a piece, I might have even bought two...

I don't understand the reason for needing the GPS or maps? Buy a stand-alone GPS and then use the TP for your movies.

I can't help with the card reader hack. I haven't had the need for it.

This is a nice tablet. Granted there could be some improvements made, but it is still perfect for your basic needs.

The maximum operating altitude is 5000ft? That means Denver residents cant use it and you shouldn't operate it on airplanes? (Nominal cabin pressure on flights is equivalent to 8500ft altitude.) It this really right or it this just a conservative specification. (I note that the apple equivalent is rated to 10k ft)

Will "any" bluetooth wireless keyboard work with these things or do you have to spring for the OEM? I snagged two cases on ebay for $16/free shipping and don't want to pay $80/each for a keyboard, charger and two covers I don't need. Thanks!

I usually don't comment on these, but I have to say, some of you are whinny mofo's. So what you aren't getting it at the fire sale of $150 which is really $180 after taxes. I can't think of another Tablet on the market that has near the same specs as this one for as low a price.

Someone went as far as comparing this to the Blackberry playbook, which is basically a Kindle Fire with crappy RIM software. It is also smaller! Bigger is better guys, just ask your wife ;)

For $224 which is what I just bought it for here, it is a great deal. More than half the price of an iPad2 and you can dual boot Android software with WebOS. It has the identical specs as the iPad2. I tried really hard to find something seriously negative with this thing; looked at reviews, videos, comments from actual owners and all I read is "I LOVE IT", I couldn't anything negative other than the fore mentioned whinny fire sale comments.

If you are on the fence, buy it. Worst case if you hate it, you can sell it on ebay for damn near what you just bought it for. I see many have sold for over $250 on there.

Please stop the whinny 'I got it on fire sale' crap on woot. Congrats, sthu now! Sheesh.

we bought one of these the weekend it came out. We returned it 2 weeks later.. It is really hard to use. It doesn't do flash like it says it does. It will do it, but it's jerky and unusable. I am an HP girl. I love HP products. When this was announced I was excited. We returned it, and I bought my husband an IPAD2 for twice the price instead

A lot of improvements have been made since the release, that I can say for sure. With the mod community, you can overclock it and reduce stuttering video playback and improve the overall performance of the touchpad. At first, I wasn't too impressed with it. However, after all the modding, it works great! Heck, it even runs better with Android on it. Although, I still prefer WebOS. It just so easy to use with all the hand gestures.

For the current asking price, it's still a decent deal. Not as good as the fire sale price, but nothing to crap on either.

Flash works on everything I've tried so far, except hulu; there's a patch that can override that.

First of all...converting to Android is completely unnecessary, unless you're absolutely dying to have some particular android-ish feature.

There is no card slot, i.e. it does not support adding cards. There have been some reports about using the USB port for storage devices and, of course, the USB port allows for easy exchange of data between a computer and the Touchpad.

I used to really want one of these and I probably would have bought the 16 GB on sellout if I'd seen it soon enough. I think $225 is too much to pay for this tablet now though. The price of tablets should be dropping across the board throughout 2012. In probably 6 months or less, we will be able to buy a new 10" tablet with Camera/GPS/mic running Android ICS out-of-the-box for this same exact price. I'm going hold-out and stick with my $100 Nook Color running CM7 for now.

I honestly can't believe how hard it is for people to grasp that this is still a good price. Sure you were lucky enough to get one during the firesale. So was I. But you can't say "Blerg these were so much cheaps 6 months ago this suckses!" It was a closeout. Now they are unavailable. The fact that they sold out for $150 in a matter of seconds means there are definitely some people out there still willing to pay this price. I absolutely don't hold any grudges against woot! for trying to make a buck. This is still a fantastic price. I have one, my fiancee has one, and her mother has one. I even put Android on mine, which took all of 10 minutes, so now I can play Peggle any time I want to. But when it comes down to using it for anything other than a specific app, it's webOS all day, baby. Even with ICS on it, webOS still has that je ne sais quoi that keeps bringing me back as soon as I'm done piddling on android.

The moral of the story is: Just because a company blew out their supply of it for next to nothing months ago doesn't mean that it will never ever be worth more than that. This was made obvious by the droves of people buying off of eBay and craigslist for $300+ with absolutely NO warranty or guarantee.

People need to learn this.

/end rant

As an additional bit of praise, the simple addition of the ($5 still) Splashtop Remote Desktop, when webOS or android aren't enough, as long as I have wifi, I have a fully powered, fully functional Windows 7 PC at my disposal that can run just about anything smoothly while streaming it to me. That means I can watch netflix, hulu, and ALL 5 TB of video on my home PC, in addition to the 500 GB of music I've been amassing since 1996. So if you have a touchpad, and you don't have Splashtop...go look in the mirror. That guy (or gal) you see? He (or she) has made some terrible life decisions, but you still have time to correct it! Get Splashtop now!
