I never knew of the fire sale that HP ran in August 2011 till I heard a couple of months ago that Android could be ported onto the device. I heard of the eBay fire sale from HP and was there when it started but due to eBay's servers screw up I was unable to snag one so when I saw this sale for the 32G I snagged one immediately.

The $219 price tag is excellent for a tablet with its specs and can also run its native OS and ICS Android so for those who are rudely/ignorantly whining that this is not deal, you definitely need to stop the display of ignorance. Btw, it would be tablet #6 for me as I currently have a Nook Color, Nook Tablet, Vizio Tab, Viewsonic GTab and Bmorn BM999 (with custom specs that I bought 2 years ago on a business trip to China)

Thanks Woot for the awesome deal!!!

Love it. I was indecisive this morning and then thought I'd lost out on the chance to have a instant antique that is actually functional.

I just happen to come back and see the little yellow bouncing Buy button. This is almost as good as lucking into a Bag of Cuuuuuute!, not quite as good, but almost....

This is the same exact progression I took. Out of box, felt is was kinda slow. Overclocked WebOS and I liked it. Flashed Android - now I love it!

In fact, I got one for $150 during the fire sale, yet still recognize that this is a great price. So much so that I just pulled the trigger for a 2nd one!

I HIGHLY recommend this tablet. The Android hack is very simple, even for the less technical.

HaHa! I never planned on buying it but just did for one of my kids that doesn't have a tablet.

So I'm in for 1, thanks for the heads up and making me spend another $225 I really didn't need to Woot lol.

He's going to be shocked, what the heck. We only live once and our kids are special.

I was able to get one during the fire sale but left it on a plane a couple weeks ago never even got the chance to put Android on it...

At least you didn't have to buy a 2TB hard drive now at over $200 instead of getting it at under $100 before the Taiwan issue took hold. I don't envy anyone that's in the market for hard drives these days.

The Kindle Fire is a nice piece of equipment but I cannot figure out why everyone keeps comparing the HP Touchpad with the Kindle Fire. They share very few specs. Everything aside, the screen size alone puts them in different classes and price ranges.

So let me get this straight, some people want to load Android, which is open source, (right? I don't know as I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole), because WebOS is "dead" because it is now open source? I swear I don't know what some people are smoking....

We have the 32GB and also have an iPad2. It's really a toss up. We like the multi-tasking on the HP. It's a really good product, but, should it appreciate in value over time?

Used electronics appreciate over time like perishables such as milk and cabbage. I have a whole box of priceless electronic heirlooms I could let you have for their original purchase price alone. Also inquire about 1 (one) slighly used bridge.

Well, after being told "no" on buying one this morning, then having to take one of our older cats in to be euthanised (kidney failure), when I came home, it was sold out.

Then I cried a little, missing Benny, read my Woot! Kindle a little, slept a little, came back to Woot! to look at the HP Touchpad that I wished I could have bought earlier, just to see that it was still available. I said something to DH that Woot! has never restocked like this and he said "then you'd better go ahead and get it".

A bright spot in a sad day for me.

I have well over 100 orders with Woot, and I have never been unhappy with their service. Ever.

[Edit:] This was supposed to be a reply to another comment. It was on about the 10th page, and said to not buy from Woot because they're a terrible company. The buyer only had 1 Woot.

So, yeah... that's that.

I just got one an hour ago, got the confirmation email too.

I was still debating with myself on "should I get one? do I NEED one?" then after refreshing the page, I saw the button bouncing. It was then I decided to shut off my brain and let my impulse do the work.

Now i see why i can't order. I deposited $225 and a pending Netflix charge brought it down to $221 so i'm short $4. Do you know if i can use Paypal and have it charge my Debit Card 221 and then take the rest out my Paypal funds?

No split payment methods - it is all or nothing, you're in or you're out with one payment choice. If you need to, you can immediate load up to $250 to PayPal via MoneyPak, or if you have back-up funding set on PayPal with a confirmed bank account it will go through (the debit) . . . . Good luck.

webOs is a great operating system. The functionality of it is great. The main problem is support and apps, very few of both. That is why people want to install Android. It has nothing to do with open source. webOS just became open source a few days ago so their might be more developement for the OS, but as far as apps go, why develop for webOS when so many other devices run Android. Waste of time.

No there is no such app for the TP that I know of. The reason is because the TP does not have GPS hardware or 3G/4G data so you would not be able to locate it. The only way it can have any data connection is thru wifi. So I guess if it is connected to a network there is a chance it could pull its location by using the wifi/ip address location.

Because if you do ever lose it, like I did, you can login and remotely backup/delete all the stored data on the device. So definitely register the device. Otherwise, if you lose it, whoever finds it will have access to all your apps/accounts and there is nothing you can do about it!

Yay! I got one just before it sold out again. My job recently added security features to the internet system and I can no longer buy (or post) from work. I read the comments and did some research from work and had my fingers crossed that they would not be sold out when I got home -and they weren't!! Well, turns out that they were sold out for awhile and then had more, so even better! Now I can bring it to work and I'll be able to woot from work again... bwaaa-haaa-haa-haaa!

Man, Trey151, where were you four hours ago?? But that webpage does say;

Makes you wonder if they actually have them in stock?

They never had them in stock. It has been like this since right after the firesale. The product page is there, but no actual product. Ive called the actual stores in my area the few times HP has resupplied or resold and was told that Sams/Walmart were not purchasing anymore after they sold the originals in the firesale. But who knows, good luck

I already have a HP Touchpad (cost me $50 BNIB). I informed my wife of the WOOT sale last night since she has been going crazy for one after she saw me with mine. I didn't have my money in the bank (I hate banks) and i was working so she asked her parents for money. Her mom said she would wire transfer the money after work. That would have been too late, so on my break i quickly went to the bank and told her to have the order page ready. I deposited the money and phoned her up, "Order denied" was what she got. They had sold out, she told me she almost cried.

A few hours later i check for the hell of it and i see they are available again. I have $225 in the bank so this is going to work out right? Nope, order kept getting denied on my phone. I thought maybe it was my browser acting up. Got home and tried placing the order again on a PC and no luck. I'm confused at this point, I check my bank and see that Netflix charged me and brought my $225 down to $221. It's too late to go to the bank, my Paypal doesn't have $225, 2 forms of payment aren't accepted either. I tell my wife to go get an AMEX card and i hand her $225 in cash. She leaves in a rush and forgets her phone. 2 minutes after she leaves and a million F5 pokes per second later, i see "SOLD OUT!"

How am i going to break it to her when she gets back?

Should i just stand at the front door with my Touchpad displaying the SOLD OUT! page?

Thanks, that is an excellent tip, and again, I feel your pain!!!

Anyway, it turns out there is such an app, at least if you have flashed Android. I was thinking about the article where I found out about the find iPhone app -- I installed it on my iPod Touch and it was kind of scary to see it pinpointed at my address, right there on my monitor! Anyway, the article mentions another free program that has an Android version. (And take a look at the article linked within it, about the guy who recovered his Macbook, really his Twitter followers did it for him, but the program was key.) So it's worth a look, for Android users at least.

Given that this device is meant to be connected to a network, let's have another reason! I'd be curious to know if there's a similar app for Web OS.

I got two of the 16GB models from the fire sale, one for me, one for my wife. We love being able to sit on the couch and surf, check emails, etc. without having a bulky laptop on our lap. Of course, there are times when you really do NEED a laptop (like when I have to work from home, using vpn), but for the most part, they're perfect- for what they do. I also have an iPad1, and I genuinely like the TP better. The iPad is great for my use at work, our web filters are set kind of crazy, so I sometimes get "Access Denied" when looking up tech stuff, which is crazy. It's 3G, so it's not fast, but sometimes I'll need to get tech stuff from the web and I can do it through my 3G instead of the corp network. I'd have LOVED a 4G-enabled TP, but Leo rained on our parade.

I just scored a 32GB TP on this deal, I plan on putting CM9 on it. I have CM7 on my 16GB, now my wife wants me to do the same to hers...
