I have this tablet, I think the hardware is pretty good, and webOS is fantastic. Get this tablet if you just need a basic tablet to surf the web, check email, chat, facebook, and some light entertaintment such games, watching YouTube, and listening to music. Some short comings of this tablet is that it doesn't have many apps, there's no Netflix app. And there wont be more apps since its an abandoned product. And as right now, don't buy it to put android on it, as far as I know, android runs very unstable with a lot of things not functioning correctly, such as smoooth video playback. If you need more out of your tablet, I would suggest a toshiba thrive. The thrive is a much better tablet and it doesn't cost that much more.

egadog wrote:Pricing I think this is ok. The firesale prices are gone. Considering I spent a month straight of scouring the Slickdeals firesale thread to score 2 32GB touchpads, the $220 price isn't that bad. If I didn't have one I would go with the 16GB on sellout.

I don't have one and that's exactly what I was thinking. Thanks.

i love my touchpad and have had no cosmetic or other issues with it over the past six months. i didn't get mine in the "firesale," but i still have found it to be worth every penny. one unique feature worth pointing out is the facebook app, which is better than any other app or standard access interface to that site i've seen.

and for all of you who are saying this item isn't worth the price because it was once $150, pardon my french, but you're i.d.i.o.t.s. it's too bad if you didn't get a touchpad at a really low price, but that doesn't change the quality of the device. and sitting around whining and annoying everyone is pointless because those prices aren't likely to come around again. we all know what happened; the past is the past. yeesh. (dismounts soapbox)

so wootchawootchawootchawant?! you're so funny with that money that you flaunt...

I missed the fire sale and have wanted one of these for a while now. I hate to buy a refurb, but I gotta do it. It will probably be hard to find them at this price again. I'm also very tempted to buy 3, but I'll be nice and only get 1 so someone else can have a chance at some

Keep on Wooting !!!

I think I want one...! I will be using it for general web browsing (online shopping, craigslist, etc), email, and youtube mainly. Is this a good tablet for those purposes? Or is there a cheaper one that would also suit my needs? Thanks in advance for any help

I have the 32GB and LOVE it! I use it for work, play, laying in bed and surfing the web, and when my 9, 4, and 3 year olds start bugging me while I'm driving. Wouldn't buy a refurb at this price though.... $50 less, I'd have a tough time passing up a chance to get another one.

EDIT: The only issue I've had with mine was the charger cord failing, but I got online with HP support and they mailed out a new one and I got it 2 days later. Also, It's about the same dimension as the ipad 2... I bought a couple cases from ebay and geeks.com that I found for cheap and they fit, charger port is accessable, but the power button and volume are covered (not a big deal for a $3 case). Stick with the soft type cases though, hard shells won't fit.

I feel like the 16gb refurb is the better deal as the 32gb's are going for right around the same price on amazon used and refurbed for just a tad more ?

Yeah, that's mostly what I do with mine. And it does those things well. The app store is not so great, but I'm not the kind of person that puts tons of apps on my phone or tablet.

Crrrrrrud. I have to 'splain this to Lucy now.

This will be a nice upgrade to my current hacking toy: a Woot gTablet. I checked the eBay HP store for the accessory bundle before buying this and found the bundle (another linked to it already), which sealed the deal. I've been thinking of buying a Bluetooth keyboard for a while anyway.

Ugh.. money. I wish I lived in a region where it grew on trees.

My new signature... now absent of a link to my website. Oops.

Hey, if you end up not liking it you can always sell it "used" on Amazon and up the price you paid for it.

I have had the 32GB model for a few months now. It is ok. Web is a bit slow, and streaming video's buffer a lot. Not my connection! All other devices have no problems. Even the Kindle Fire streams better. Good for email and the Kindle app.
And yes, I am running preware and have overclocked it!

Yes it has gone open-source but its too little too late.
Theres no room for it in the current market.

HP had their chance but the slept on it... For many many years. Web OS is as good as dead.

I need a cheap tablet for studying purposes on the go and music capabilities. I'd like to watch the occasional movie on it, every now and then, but the movie capabilities is not mandatory. Will the 16GB be good enough for these things? the 32 GB? or another tablet completely?

Just went in for one of the 16gb's on sellout.woot. I had a Samsung 5.0 PMP from a previous woot, sold it, and I reverted back to using my iphone 4. Hopefully I will find more use for the touchpad? I'm thinking the larger screen size, beats audio, and being able to dual boot may make it a keeper? If not it's off to amazon to be sold !

I think Im done sweating this woot until tomorrow night when they sell the 64gb version for less than the 16gb.

Just to comment on this, I'm running a 16 gb touchpad w/ zero modifications to it. The browser may sometimes be a tad slower than on a pc, but nothing significant. As far as streaming video, I've done amazon prime streaming and I get the top quality with zero buffering once it starts. Only complaint would be every once in a while the internet hangs, but by turning the WiFi off and back on I'm running again in 10 secs.

Always up to the challenge, I've dug around a little for/on/about centralsupplier.net. Bottom line: STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

(1) Basic run-of-the-mill shopping cart software. Add an item to the cart, view the cart, and you'll get the "experiencing issues" message. Visit (via guesswork) http://centralsupplier.net/checkout.php and you'll see that the cart only accepts JCB cards (Japan Credit Bureau). Obviously not a US company.

(2) The centralsupplier.net domain was reported as expired in December 2011. Never a good sign of a reliable website.

(3) The domain was then re-registered on December 30, 2011, and the IP address of the web server is 141.105.65.232 -- which is served/routed by Mir Telematiki Ltd and/or Navitel Rusconnect Ltd, both in Moscow, Russia. bought new 32 gb for $125 (after rebate) from tigerdirect (bundle deal with PC). have moboot dual boot running XRON 2.9.1 (based on CM7) runs awesome for daily use. everything except camera and mic work on that - jump to WebOS for that. ice cream sandwich being worked on - it'll happen - some awesome devs on it.
WebOS had so much potential, and i feel still does. i'd love to see android apps in WebOS cards.
i have 5 android devices now (also have og evo 4g supersonic, evo 3d shooter, nook color, asus transformer with dock) - all are very cool, but the hp touchpad just rocks ! i'd get the 32 gb. just saying ...

The TouchPad is a great 1.0 product. Along with the charging dock and case, it shows that the HP worker bees are still capable of top-notch hardware and software design.

The TouchPad wasn't a failure ... the main problem is HP's inability to put strong, competent leaders in the very top management slots for several years now.

Putting a revolving door on the CEO's office basically ties together the product managers' shoelaces. They can take a halting step or two but inevitably fall down hard.

~~~~~
For customers - wooters - it's not rational to base a buying decision today on what something cost a month or two ago.
Does the thing do what you want at a price you're willing to pay today?
If you bought one in Fire Sale 1.0 and don't want another one, well, not being in the market for one today is the reality of it for you. Not the price.
My son works in IT and had decided he didn't need a tablet, but he's having fun with the TouchPad. It's pretty good stuff. Really.
