When was the 20$ coupon sent out ?

I like to think I am "Very Active" but have not seen a coupon since December 8th and that coupon expired 12/31/11! I am pretty sure I had 90+ rank this past month.

Anybody want to PM me the coupon code so I can see if its active? Maybe I just missed the email!

Nevermind did some digging it seems this coupon was for popular deals not being active. guess I wont be buying no expensive chocolate

No seriously, look at those ingredients. Corn syrup? In chocolates? Not to mention that they are all made from cocoa liqueur rather than cocoa solids.

Using corn syrup is not necessarily a sign of low quality. Corn syrup is primarily glucose (and different than high-fructose corn syrup), and often used in caramels because the glucose interferes with the crystallization of the sucrose molecules. Without it, you can end up with grainy caramel.

Also, there's nothing wrong with chocolate liquor, as it is pretty much just pure ground cocoa nibs. (Cocoa solids are simply the liquor with the cocoa butter removed.)

I bought 2 boxes of these the last time, and they are fantastic! Well worth the money. I had looked the company up online in hopes of buying more, but they usually sell these in little boxes at nearly the same price.

I'm so happy to see these again on Woot! In for 2 more.

As good as these things look I will have to pass. Sam's club had those dark chocolate candies shaped like bottles that are liquor filled,48 to a box and selling for about $12. I stopped by a week or so after Christmas and they were marked down to $2.50 so of course I bought 7 boxes! I have been pounding these things like a squirrel in a peanut factory, I'm down to less than two boxes.

Now I have my first AA meeting Thursday night and nothing I have fits me, I look like a weather balloon with pants!

I got these last time. The carmel was really good but I found it had too much salt for my taste. I ended up brushing off all the salt. The residue the salt left behind was enough for me.

Maybe the packaging has changed since the last time they were offered on wine.woot, but I do recall only receiving one box with two layers of chocolates for 56 pieces in a box.

Yep. Bought some before the Holidays. My wife and I both agreed. They taste homemade and natural. The caramel is not chewy. It is creamy, dense, and oh so buttery.

But 240 calories per chocolate? Yikes! No wonder we gained so much weight over the Holidays.

Oh well, purchased again.

I looked at my last box this morning for the nutritional facts, and things seem to be a bit off. I took a picture, but I do not post here often and am unsure how to post it. Here is what it said.
Serving Size: 32g
Servings per container: 28 (you get 28 dark and 28 milk per box--so 2 chocolates per serving)
Calories: 120
All of the other numbers are the same.

According to what is on the box, each chocolate would be 60 calories and half of the other numbers listed on the page. Maybe their labels are incorrect. I just figured I would share. Also if you do the math 28 servings of 32 grams is roughly 2 pounds, so 60 calories per chocolate would be right.

Also, I bought 3 last time, and I am on my very last chocolates now. I took them to a holiday party, my office, and home for Christmas. Everyone loved them.

Had some remaining from around Christmas. Flipped the box and it says servings per container: approx 28. This is for the two pound box with 56 pieces of caramels in it. So a serving would be 2 pieces not half a piece. The rest of the info on woot is right.

I've purchased these every single time they've come up on Wine.Woot and haven't been disappointed a single time. Well worth the $23. You *can* freeze them, but IIRC the shelf life on these are long enough that if you're waiting on eating them that long, you should take a long, serious look at how you're living your life.

Got these last time they were on wine.woot. I didn't like the dark as much as the milk, but that's just me. The milk are excellent, though. Way too much for this person to eat by her lonesome, so I took them into work.

If I could just get only a pound of milk, I'd consider it.

Comparing milk to milk...

These are a bit softer than Fran's, the pieces are bigger, and they're a bit more buttery. They are also 1/4 the price-per-piece as compared to Fran's. Fran's have a bit more salt on the top.

So, I personally preferred these to Fran's by just a smidge, but I'm going to buy Fran's anyway. I just don't know what to do with two pounds of chocolate, and I'm less likely to eat too many if I'm paying $2 per chocolate.

Rich people problems, y'all.

I was holding out for them again for this valentines day, but I thought once wine.woot had that Guatemalan chocolate last week that this wouldn't be offered. Now I have to decide if I want to get these again...THEY'RE SO TASTY!

We had another brand that was almost twice the price and these were much better.

In my opinion, wine.woot is w-a-y overpriced, too because, as we all know, wine is really only fermented grape juice, and that's super easy to make at home.

You know, those snobby wine people go on-and-on about "varieties of grapes" and how stupid things like "soil" and "barrel wood" and "weather conditions" supposedly impact the taste of the final product. Hogwash! We all know that in the end, it's just grape juice that was tweaked a little.

All you need is some grape juice (the local food warehouse has big bottles of it real cheap) and some yeast. You can buy that at the grocery store. Throw some yeast into the grape juice, throw the cap back on, and let it sit for awhile at room temp. Strain out the junk, and -voila- you have wine that is every bit as good as they sell at the 7-11 - only cheaper because you're so much smarter than those high-faultin' "professionals".

No need to buy that expensive stuff on wine.woot. You have exactly the same thing.

The good and the bad:

Good: These taste great, ad the price is a great deal. Last year I order one each of the milk and dark variety...personally I prefer dark chocolate (always).

The bad: My wife and kids pretty much forgot about them, so I ate 2 pounds of chocolate.

Caramel is not cheap if it is made correctly. Heavy cream, real butter and vanilla cost plenty compared to most fondant fillings that are primarily powdered sugar and a few drops of liquid.

You have a truth mixed with misnomers. Glucose does interfere with crystallization but that only takes a small amount. There's more corn syrup than sugar. Not to mention it's still possible to do the same thing without it, it just takes more care. Also chocolate quality usually in the process, it's why most people don't make chocolate. Even at expensive places often buy their chocolate bulk from trusted sources before making their confections. Using cocoa liquor is the cheap route. Go out and buy chips made that way and do a side by side comparison there is a difference in taste and texture. Even putting that aside what's the excuse for using vanillin? I'd rather not have my chocolates flavored with paper manufacturing byproducts.

120 calories for 32 grams. I weighed one chocolate and it was 16 grams with the wrapper on, so I think it's accurate to say that they're 60 calories per piece.

Learn to do it yourself and stop buying

I am so offended by this post. Seriously? Make your own? I'd like to know what sort of standards you have for taste and quality that you can be so cavalier in saying "do it yourself."

Making good chocolates isn't like learning to change the oil in your car. There is an art to it. And it’s not for everyone. And you don’t even describe making chocolate, but a chocolate syrup, which is nowhere near the same thing. Frankly, if I want to put something chocolaty on my ice cream, I’m going to make a dark hot fudge sauce, not chocolate syrup.

I have made caramels before (and fondant, marshmallow, and hard candy), and I have dipped my own chocolates. It is not easy, and for those who don't know what they're doing when cooking candy, it can be expensive because you can easily end up having to throw away your batch because you didn't cook your caramel properly or you accidentally get water in your chocolate and it seizes. True, caramels are not that difficult to make compared to fondants, but all caramels are not created equally. There are different recipes that affect consistency and taste.

I love to save money, and I have ordered these chocolates twice. I think they’re a good value. Not a great value, but a good value for what you get delivered to your door. I would easily buy again if these were all dark. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE milk chocolate covered caramels but, to my taste, with the salt added, it makes the candy too sweet. The dark ones, though, are fantastic!
