Toshiba does make a good laptop. I've had mine for years and I think I might be in the market to get a newer Toshiba.

Equivocal about Blu-ray..

I have the 15" version of this and it is awesome. 1.4ghz is kind of misleading because it goes up to 2.3ghz under load. It's pretty fast. I can run Skyrim at medium settings without a problem.

Watch Toshiba try and sell you this laptop as cheesy as possible:

I bought a 15.6" width Toshiba with number pad 2 1/2 years ago for a mere $299 at Best Buy. Thing has been great in spite of the cat spilling grape juice on it.

Only a single core but W7 works perfectly and I can even run VirtualBox from Oracle and run XP inside a virtual machine. The virtual XP machine runs better than my 8 year old desktop XP machine. Handy for running my older programs.

Satellites are incredibly good machines. I've got the 15" Acer equivalent of this laptop, and with an SSD it's a workhorse. Don't let the 1.4 GHz fool you - unless you're doing hardcore processing work, it is plenty of horsepower for most things, including a lot of newish games.

I would be all over this, but 17" seems too bulky for me, which is why I've got the 15" Acer! c:

Not all A6 laptops enable Turbo out of the box, or even have an option for it. I got a similar Samsung that was also clocked at 1.4 GHz and unlocked the Turbo with K10Stat. It's also possible to get higher clocks, mine is currently running at 2.4 GHz at 1.15V. It's not really much of an overclock as it can't handle much of the heat, but the voltage is quite a bit lower than stock which will keep down temps whenever I'm gaming. It's not a gaming laptop, but it can play games like WoW and League of Legends at medium to high settings without putting up a fuss.

EDIT: Oh, I might add that I got my Samsung at Best Buy for 400.

These are really selling in Wyoming. What do the Yellowstone scientists know that we don't? A more likely question: Why are they all moving from desktops to laptops? Getting ready for a hasty departure?!

Found a similar unit at Office Depot, but not a refurb, 4g ram, 640Hd. not sure about the processor says 1.5g. Same price after $100.00 rebate. What's the better deal? Thanks

Doesn't look like this thing will run Diablo 3 that well. The video card is two tiers below the minimum system requirement:

Need a laptop for the wife so we can play together. I guess I'll just wait til the dang game is actually released. Laptop prices only go down, right?

I need a refurb to use as a workstation in my business, but this would be serious overkill.

However, I will add that I have had a Toshiba Satellite before and found it to be very reliable. Actually bought it used at a pawnshop and had it for several years with no problems.

Around the fifth time that the new puppy got tangled in the power cord and ripped it out, the DC inlet became detatched from the motherboard.

Research indicated that it only needed a new DC inlet, but the local repair shop said it would need a new motherboard. Ended up just buying a new laptop, as it was about that time.

The fact that it lived on the kitchen table and it took five puppy incidents for something to break is supposed to be a recommendation, by the way.

Didn't even see that when I scooped one up in my order. I bought it for son who is going off to college in 7 months and to replace his dying netbook. I may have to rethink this ... have always wanted a num pad on my own machine! What son doesn't know doesn't hurt him, right?

This was a great deal, BTW. I haven't seen a laptop this loaded, even if it were refurb'd, for under $600.

I don't see any mention of video memory. I assume this means the graphics processor shares the system memory?

This has 2 GB more RAM but no blu-ray. Processor appears similar bur better (A8-3500M versus A6-3400M).

Am I imagining things, or did the yellow "percentage sold" status bar just move backwards when I refreshed? Maybe they found another pallet of these computers in the warehouse...

And supports 16GB RAM MAX - This Toshiba only supports 8 max.
