I'd take Nikon over Cannon too. Who knows what the quality of those rip-offs is. However, I'll stick with my Canon... ;)

Serious question; why would I buy this when I could pick up the T1i at 15.1 MP and video for $50 more and free shipping on Amazon?

$479 at Walmart. Do you want a high-end camera they sell at Walmart?

nmumark wrote:While I don't shop at Walmart. Just because they offer it there doesn't make it bad. This is a perfectly good camera for a beginner getting into photography.

Ya know, it's funny. No one admits to shopping at Wallmart, but they are the largest retailer in the world. hmmmm......

That is because it is a three year old model, that is still holding it's own today. This is a great entry-level DSLR.

I've never gotten this camera-- unless you just want one to look like you have a DSLR. If you are never going to take it off of auto or change lenses, get a point and shoot. If you are going to take it off auto and change lenses, get a better one (Ti3 or the 50).

I bought this for my wife during the last woot-off. Solid little camera. The is our first SLR, so we didn't need anything extra fancy.

I would recommend a high speed SD card and an upgraded lens if you want to do anything more than take casual pictures. But over all, a great camera.

Yes and everything they sell is "..brand new and coming with 1 year warranty."

Sounds like a site from overseas, or some one who can't use spell-check. Either way I would rather deal with a company located within the US or with enough forethought to up keep their site.

I agree whole-heartedly, and I said in my first post that it would be a great entry-level D-SLR. My reply was in response to calling it a "high end" camera. My interpretation (which could have been wrong) was that they were calling this was a high end camera based on the price. I was just pointing out that in the world of D-SLR, this is at the bottom - which does NOT mean it's not a good camera. At the high end, you can easily spend $3-4,000 for just a camera body.

If that's in your budget, the T1i is definitely a better camera (I used to own it myself). Both are now a few years old - at the time the "order" was XS, XSi, T1i. If you're in the market, check out prices for the T2i vs. the T1i. It's got a better sensor. The T2i is the upgraded version of the T1i, it's just a matter of your budget.

One should keep an eye out for good deals on models that will run "Magic Lantern" firmware (e.g. T2i) as it significantly expands the capabilities of the camera for stills and video.

My ex took our original Digital Rebel in the divorce. If I had the extra money, I'd snag this one. Yes, not top of the line by any means, but I loved the original and it's better than the crappy point and shoot I got left with..

The lens is 55mm in diameter, and you get eighteen of them with your camera purchase.

I still don't understand it myself. This camera came out way back in 2008. It's a 4 year old camera that's still $400? I can get a base model Canon Rebel T3 for $60 more... and the T3 is faster, shoots at 12MP, and does video.

I can see them selling this for $250 or even $300 but not $400.

Sure it does, Walmart forces their suppliers to reduce their pricing therefore manufacturers have no choice but to lower their quality standards. Some reputable companies refuse to play the Walmart game. This is why not all things are cheaper at Walmart.

This is a great DSLR for the amateur/beginner photographer with all the features you will need to jump into the world of digital photography. This was my first one, and its the one I grab first when I need to take a quick picture. I paid $800 for mine back in the day, but it came with two lenses and a bag. If you want to get your feet wet in the world of digital photography, but don't want to spend a fortune, this is a great camera and can produce dazzling results.
